My question is simple: How to disable any event on a View in Android? (including removing its focussability, like I just want it to be there visually but be inexistant on everything else)
And does it work on a whole view tree? (like if I disable events on the root, all the events will be disabled for its children?).
Now, before you say anything I have tried all the following:
setEnabled
setFocusable
setSelected
setClickable
setActivated
And none of these methods appear to work, seriously.
I have tried them directly on a WebView, as well as on the parent layout on everything but I am still able to interact with it.
Any idea?

The solution that consists in adding a view on top of the view that needs to be disabled doesn't work. Actually, it's still possible to click on the inner view, I have tried with a simple example:

The reason why I want to do this is related to the following question that I asked weeks ago.
What I have is a ListViewacting as a navigation bar which is underneath a View that holds the content of my app. The problem with this implementation is that when I try to scroll through the ListView when there is a focusable view in the layer on top of it, well the ListView doesn't scroll and instead it's the top view that takes focus (That's the case when there is a
Webview or an EditText etc.).
So yes as mentioned in one of the answers, I can disable any click events on a WebView by overriding setOnTouchListener but the view remains focussed and I think this is the reason why I am still having the same issue with my navigation bar.
Simply put a view on top of your view. You can toggle it on off by setting view.visibility = gone/visible.

Edit 2 reedit: Try to set the visibility to gone for the the top view below your listview.

I am using Android Leanback library for creating TV application. I have a layout which inflates Fragment (which is RowsSupportFragment) and below that there is button. So, when I scroll down to list of items in RowsSupportFragment after reaching to last item focus doesn't goes to button.
I already have tried setting focusable(true), nextFocusDown(buttonId) etc.
I can see that RowsSupportFragment uses VerticalGridView internally to inflate list of items.
Do anybody has any idea about it?

Focus works correctly if I left/right align button.
In My case this was work when i need focus on the any views

In My case,i need focus on the any views on right outside of RowSupportFragment item so Working around with focusOutEnd,focusOutFront and other focus features in the Leanback Style solved my solution.
like for requesting the focus to outside Button widget from RowSupportFragment, setting <item name="focusOutEnd">true</item> in style worked for me.
I have a question regarding the android layout transition framework. In particular i want to achieve an effect that a certain part of an layout slides down or up depending on the visibility of another view(s).
Imagine the following layout. (And please overlook the nested LinearLayouts here ;) )

Now what i want to achieve is that when changingView1 and changingView2 change their visibility that movingView slides up or down.
By enabling the LayoutTransition.CHANGING for the parent layout the sliding part works fine so. But this has the side effect that the movingView will also be animated when there are being items added or removed because this layout changes its bounds. And here lies my problem because this results in a very strange looking animation.
So back to my question. Is there a way to keep the sliding animation without animating layout bound changes on the movingView?
Disabling layoutTransitions on the movingView obviously does not help because this only effects the animations of the child views. I also tried playing around with enabling and disabling different LayoutTransitions on the parent layout but so far without the desired effect.
If i can add more details please let me know otherwise i hope someone can help me out.

I know it's late but hope it can help someone. Since android:animateLayoutChanges is the property of the direct parent, you can wrap your View/Layout in a FrameLayout (or some other ViewGroup) and set android:animateLayoutChanges="false" on the new parent.
To avoid unwanted animations you can remove the animate layout changes by code when needed, something like this:
//removing the animate layout changes to prevent the default animation for the newly added items
parentLayout.setLayoutTransition(null);
/* do some logic to add the new views */
//add the animate layout changes back so the over changes will be still animated
new Handler().post(() -> {parentLayout.setLayoutTransition(new LayoutTransition());});
I have a situation where I need a scrollview to have a background image that shouldn't scroll along with it's parent when moving. Before any of you suggest me the links for setting background image and this that, I have already tried and it's not working.
The whole story goes like: I have an activity with fragments which have their own backgrounds with some input fields. When focusing over input fields, keyboard appears and background image squeezes. For that I put an image on background of scrollview that fixed my issue of squeezing background but raised another concern that background Image should stay static while scrolling the parent scrollview.
The second solution any of you may suggest is setting background of my activity rather playing with scrollview. That's right, but for that I had to make a style element with background of theme which appears odd while transitioning different fragments plus it adds overhead when I have a lot of code and fragments to move forward and back.
That's the point where I am stuck. I have gone through links below, if you just need to know that I tried it or not.

None of the above works for me with some reason but this things works.
getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(R.mipmap.img_reg_bg);
put it in oncreate method hope it will help.
If I guess right you try to fix your hotfix to get it working propperly. If I'm right you sould go back to scratch and do it without your scrollview.

I have to an EditText behind a ScrollView
I cannot click the EditText anymore. The ScrollView is intercepting it I think. I tried the code below but it doesn't fix it.

Things to try:
The parent view can influence the position of the views. For example
in a FrameLayout all of the views get stacked in the order they are
placed in the layout file (so your issue could be fixed by
rearranging the order of the EditText in relation to the
ScrollView).
You might try to call editText.bringToFront() to force the
EditText in front of the ScrollView.
If you disable the touch-based listeners (OnClickListeners, etc) on
the ScrollView or the container it's in then the action should "pass
through" the ScrollView and allow you to interact with the EditText
behind it. I found this out the hard way when I was trying to make
the opposite scenario work for me (I wanted the top level view to
consume the actions and not fall through to the view behind it).
These solutions worked for me in the past in different scenarios.
In my case I replaced android:layout_height="match_parent" to android:layout_height="wrap_content" and views inside ScrollView become clickable. Hope this helps.

I recently updated my phone to gingerbread and to my horror one of my apps stopped working!
The app consists of a SurfaceView and a layout (view) that shows up as an overlay over this SurfaceView.
THe xml looks like this:

When the user press the menu button I use this code to show the view:

This worked flawlessy on versions earlier than 2.3 but now the behaviour is very random.
Observations
Very rarely everything works.
Sometimes the view shows up after hiding / unhiding it.
Sometimes you can press the buttons on the view (even though it's invisible) this makes the view show up for the rest of the application lifetime.
The getVisibility method always report the correct value.
What I've tried
Rebuilding draw cache
Using BringToFront method
Post invalidate
Setting the initial value of the view to "visible", this makes everything work, but I really want it to be initially invisible!
If anyone wants to check the problem you can try it for yourself in my app (it's on market, search for "chainparticles").
