I want to add my custom banners and gif animations in some of my activities like the way admob did .
I was wondering how can I do some thing like admob but put my own banners ?
Create a fragment and attach it to the bottom of the activity in which you want to display the ads. You will have to put an ImageView/TextView inside the fragment and do the other necessary things, like downloading the Image from the server...
You can add a LinearLayout to the activity's xml layout and place it at the bottom.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<!-- Add this container layout to the bottom of the screen -->
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/ad_container"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
And set up the custom gif image to the adView like the following way..
public void initAdView() {
LinearLayout adViewContainer = findViewById(R.id.ad_container);
ImageView adView = new ImageView(activity);
adViewContainer.addView(adView);
//make other thing to set the gif image to the imageView.
adView.setImageDrawable(gifImage);
}

So, i wanted to put an image in background of my screen. My problem is that if i just add the image to "background" it will fill all the screen, and my image gets defaced. I could put as an ImageView, but the problem is that i have an expandableListView in the same screen, and i wanted the image to stay behind, as a background.
Any idea how to do this?
Can have 2 solutions: Put as an imagemView but behind the list. Or add as a background but resize it. How can i do it?
Here is what happened:
He is what happens if i put the image as an imageView:
Yes this is very easy to achieve with relative layouts
<RelativeLayout ... >
<ImageView ...
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:scaleType="centerCrop“ />
<ListView ...
android:layout_alignParentTop="true“ />
</RelativeLayout>
With a relative layout z-index is decided by the order you declare the tags, so stuff towards the bottom of the xml is in front of stuff from closer to the top, when they are in the same position.
Use a FrameLayout (Inside FrameLayout view written on top will appear on top and so on)
<FrameLayout
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<ListView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
></ListView>
<ImageView
android:layout_width="your_width_in_dp"
android:layout_height="your_height_in_dp"
/>
</FrameLayout>
You can also place FrameLayout inside another layout.
I'm doing this in Xamarin, so there will be slight deviations in the casing and names of methods.
I have a RelativeLayout that has ads and is placed at the bottom. Unfortunately, the ads block part of the playable map, so I'm attempting to move it to the top when the player moves near the bottom. I initialize the banner with the following code:
_banner = new RelativeLayout(this);
_lp = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MatchParent, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WrapContent);
_lp.AddRule(LayoutRules.AlignParentBottom);
_lp.AddRule(LayoutRules.AlignParentLeft);
AddContentView(_banner, _lp);
I'm now attempting to move it to the top, but am failing. I've tried removing and re-adding it, but that does nothing.
var lp = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MatchParent, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.WrapContent);
((FrameLayout)(_banner.Parent)).RemoveView(_banner);
lp.AddRule(LayoutRules.AlignParentTop);
lp.AddRule(LayoutRules.AlignParentLeft);
AddContentView(_banner, lp);
I've also tried setting the LayoutParameters, but that throws an exception. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

From your code I gather you are nesting a RelativeLayout (contains the ad) inside a FrameLayout. Your RelativeLayout only matches your parent in width, not height.
As such the RelativeLayout doesn't have the same size as your FrameLayout.
Your ad is thus touching both top and bottom of the RelativeLayout. And that RelativeLayout is always aligned to the top of the FrameLayout.
To solve this you have three options:
Make the RelativeLayout match the entire height of the FrameLayout and position your ad within that RelativeLayout.
Change the FrameLayout into a RelativeLayout, that way your alignParentBottom parameter will start working.
Use a 'layout_gravity' parameter on the RelativeLayout to tell the FrameLayout you want this View sent to the bottom.
Effectively your code is doing:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<RelativeLayout
android:alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="#FF0000"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="240dp"
/>
</FrameLayout>
But for stuff to work you need to use android:layout_gravity which is a FrameLayout.LayoutParameter.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_gravity="bottom"
android:background="#FF0000"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="240dp"
/>
</FrameLayout>
Just paste the two pieces in a layout.xml and use the Android Designer to view the difference.
I want to overlay an image above all activities after some operation to have a feel like phone is locked. How can I do this programmatically in android ?
You can set a FrameLayout at the end of you XML layout file with an ImageView and "match_parent" dimension for both length and height. Set it's visibility to "gone" in the XML layout file. and the problematically in your code change it's visibility to visible to show this full screen Image and hide all the other components that are laid below it.
For example in your XML file put this at the end of the XML:
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/lockScreenLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:visibility="gone" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/your_iamge"
android:contentDescription="#drawable/your_iamge" />
</FrameLayout>
So it would be the child of your root xml element.
and then in code, do this:
lockScreenLayout = (FrameLayout) findViewById(R.id.lockScreenLayout);
lockScreenLayout.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
One simple solution consists in setting your image as the background of the root view of your activities.
I have a main layout being hosted by an activity (setContentView method).
I have a button in the layout. I want to be able to click this button and a new layout will slide down from the left/top until the middle of the screen. So, the screen now will have two layouts where one is on top and another one is just beneath it.
This is something like the UI in Android Jelly Bean where you can pull the settings layout down using a touch gesture.
What are the possible implementations?
A method I have tried:
add the slide down layout into main.xml but set its visibility to gone
when button is clicked, run some code that will set the layout visibility to
VISIBLE and add some animations.
the result of this implementation is that this layout will push the rest of the
views down in order to have a "squeeze" space for itself which is not
what I intended to do (see above)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:paddingBottom="5dp"
android:paddingTop="5dp" >
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/PR_slidedown" <---this is the intended slidedown layout
android:layout_width="8dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:visibility="gone"
android:orientation="vertical" >
</LinearLayout>
....
Your implementation is partially correct, the other part is to host your two layouts in a FrameLayout so they can overlap with each other. Search for FrameLayout in here, there are a lot of example on how to use it.
Or try the SlidingDrawer
I have a registration form in a LinearLayout as shown below:
When emulator screen is in it's default position it is working fine. But when I rotate the emulator screen it only displays the elements which are fit to screen and remaining are wrap up. As shown in below screen:
Now I want to make this layout scrollable but not getting the idea. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Try putting your LinearLayout inside an ScrollView like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/menu_ll"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"></LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
I simply added this code in my activity of AndroidManifest.xml
android:windowSoftInputMode="stateVisible|adjustResize"
