How to control screen birghtness with slider in android - android

I want users to be able to control the birghtness with a slider. Please answer in the simplest way because im a noob when it comes to android.

Controlling the screen brightness has been through here many times, for example this post.
Now, the easiest way to get a slider control is to use the SeekBar widget, which comes pretty close. Then you just hook up the OnSeekBarChange event to your function which sets the brightness to your desired value.

onTouch event on Android Games

my question is not only about onTouch events but about every method I can use to recognise a touch on certain areas of the screen.
Right now, I have a "background" image, which I use as layout that contains 2 "buttons": Start and Options as you can see here:
Ok, what I want to know is which is the best way to identify when are the user touching each button. By the way, should be nice also some info about how to deal with the different screen sizes.

PD: seems I didnt explain it well. they are not "Android buttons" theirselves. The background is a whole image, where you can find 2 "buttons", but they are a part of the image. Thats because I need to know how to do this
I think you're missing some fundamentals, so I recommend to take a tutorial track.

Why do you want to set the touchListener on whole screen and find the buttons?..You can simply set the OnClickListener or onTouchListener on both the buttons itself..

Circular / rotary dial view in android

I have a need to create a circular dial/rotary style component for use in an application. It's essentially a circular menu that allows users to select from the items that are ringed around it, and then they can click the button in the center to activate the selected item. However, I've never created a custom UIView of this type, and don't really know where to begin. Can anyone give me any pointers as to how I would draw the view and then rotate it as the user drags their finger? I obviously know how to intercept touch events, etc. but I'm not sure how to actually go about manipulating the UI appropriately. Any tips or pointers would be great!

For you, I think you can extend an existing View, that View being the SeekBar. You can take the standard SeekBar and draw it in a circle.
Finally, here is a source code that does the rotation with a volume knob. It is its own project though, so you have to do some work to use it in your own app.

This library comes with a demo app with source code and the demo app actually uses a dial as a menu, So I think this should be the perfect solution for you.

Placing a background picture and then having invisible touch (Android)

I am trying to make an application for android that is based on IPAD app. I want to keep the same look to the app, but I am not a very good designer. So I was wondering if it was possible to for me to crop say the entire header and then have an invisible button or something on top of portions of it. so the design would become a little bit easier. Also if that is possible how would I get the what ever the event item is going to be to overlap with a portion of the image if it has stranger orientation. (I think I could fake this by just moving it closest orientation and extending the size untill it fits, but it would be nice to find a better way.)
How would I go about that?
I tried making the button invisible, but that did not seem to work.

I got lost on your description. But if you want to make a button invisible, calling setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); will not work, because it will not receive click events. You may want to set its color to transparent instead. try using:
button.setBackgroundColor(Color.TRANSPARENT);

How to Have multiple buttons inside Android SlidingDrawer Control

I am making a quiz application in which i am planning to use the SlidingDrawer control for displaying different question numbers. Clicking on a number will allow the user to jump to a specific question.
I have implemented the sliding drawer control but it is able to display only 6-7 buttons inside it depending on the screen size. Trying to add more buttons to it gives an exception.
I tried using a GridView inside the SlidingDrawer but i keep getting an error.
Is there anyway i can have around 20-30 buttons inside the SlidingDrawer control arranged in a grid like manner ?
Please give suggestions on any other way i can implement similar functionality in a way that doesn't take up much screen space ?
Yes, it's possible, as a matter of fact previous Android versions (1.6 if I'm not wrong) implemented the application Launcher that way.
Search the source for that version and you'll have a working sample.

horizontal bar slider

I am looking for a class that implement a horizontal slider bar like the one on the "lock" screen. In other words, user must slide the bar from left to right to run an activity. Thank you so much for your time.
Internally, Android uses a class called SlidingTab for this (the main lockscreen is in a file called LockScreen.java. As with all Android core code, it's Apache licensed. At the risk of sounding like a broken record here on SO, download the AOSP and read through the code whenever you have a "how did the Google folks do x?" type of question (or even when you don't; there's some good stuff in there).
Maybe a Seek Bar might help you towards a solution to your problem. If this works for you let me know, because i am interested in a solution to that as well. Thanks

Here is an example that extends a horizontal ProgressBar so that the user can set the "progress" by sliding left/right. It's actually quite straight forward, it just overrides the onTouchEvent() method, does some minor mathematics and sets the progress value depending on the TouchEvent's X coordinate.
