Run progress bar while switching Activity - android

im stuck in a situation where i am switching from activity 1 to activity 2.
i am using Thread.sleep(5000) to start another activity after 5 seconds
But the progress bar which i want to run for five seconds also sleeps with the first activity
Pleaze help me as to when i click next Button on first activity a progress bar shoud run for five sec
and then activity should be loaded

Change your OnClickListener for this. This will not block your main thread, as you are doing (that explains why your application freezes for 5 seconds):

Don't use Thread.sleep() - it is the root to all evil. Instead, use a Handler and its postDelayed( Runnable, time )-method like below:

You better use an AsyncTask for this purpose.Using threads like that in your activity is not proper and can lead to some fails.Check this docs about AsyncTask.

First of all in the Above code, you need to start the Thread using this.
t.start();
you can also try below code,
new Thread ( new Runnable()

ProgressDialog doesn't show with I using intent in Android

Everything is working fine, and the second Activity is running but My progress Dialog doesn't appear when I using Intent.

Let's not talk about how wrong is to use AsyncTask as you used it here. I suppose you have some bigger picture, and this is just some test snippet.
So with
new DownloadTask().execute();
you started AsyncTask.
And just after that you started new activity:
mIntent = new Intent(this,MainActivity.class);
startActivity(mIntent);
So, AsyncTask continue to work in separate thread, but StartActivity is no longer active (probably not even visible), because MainActivity is in foreground now.
So, you want to see ProgressBar in StartActivity, but you are in MainActivity.
Try to wait AsyncTask to finish, than start MainActivity.

How can i code a time limit in my android game

i have a quiz game for my android that has a time limit. what i want is there is a choices button that if you click one of the buttons it you will be automatically intent to the class next level but if you didnt answer or click any of the button you will be intent to the other class, thats why the game has a time limit. my problem is i dont know how to put a time limit that will intent or transfer you in another class automatically if you didnt click any of the button choices. i tried sleep but what happen is even i already clicked the correct answer and im on the next level class it will sleep to the class i intented to my sleep. please help me with my problem. i also try handler but didnt work

You should use a handler but in order to cancel the timeout you must remove the delayed message from the handler in your click listener code.

Splash Image for android

I made a splash image to show at the start of my activity..

first thing it is not onStop of Activity so looks you are calling stop function of thread which is Deprecated that's why you are getting the strike line so use other way to stop the thread of use better way to implement the splash ........

there is an image view in splash_layout, after the splash screen appears for some time duration, and disappears then MyMainActivity starts, the problem is, after the splash disappears and before MyMainActivity starts, I could see previous screen(irrelevant to my app, e.g. desktop with widgets, or previous running app), how to make the transition fluent so that splash screen directly goes to MyMainActivity?

Let the splash activity wait a process

My app have a splash activity
It must display at least 5 seconds
But in this activity I have another thread to sync data from internet
Sync process may take more than 5 seconds or less than 5 second.
If less than 5 seconds, the Handler should wait until fifth second
If more then 5 seconds, the Handler should wait until process complete
How to make the Handler wait another thread?
