We've been testing the idea of running a tablet (or anything) as a display for long periods of time, and things are MOSTLY ok, but every couple days it seems like the tablet just crashes. No power issues, I assume no memory issues. When I look at it, its obviously powered up, but the screen in blank, and clicking power to wake it up does nothing. Must long-press the power button to get a hard reboot (no confirm dialog).
Totally confused by what's happening. Not SURPRISED so much. I actually would've been a little surprised if this was all trouble free.
However, wondering where I should look for info. Even if we can't get this to work out, I'd like to send some sort of error report. I looked in /data/dontpanic, but it was empty. Any other places for system crash logs?

Never figured out root cause. Seems like a strange hardware issue. Is there a way to remove questions?

Lenovo a6000 is not able to run material design code .
First of all, a question like this will provoke opinionated, heavily biased answers and provoke flamewar like discussions between religiously fanatic fanboy groups. It is not very wise to ask a question like this.
Furthermore, one single phone is never enough to really get your app tested. It gets you the impression how your app works on one device, but how it will work on all the others, you will never know. You will always need a variety of devices, and I am not just writing about phones, phablets and tablets, but also of different vendors. Because each vendor introduces "his" own peculiarities and quirks and you will notice that while running fine on a Nexus, your app might crash on an HTC or Samsung. Or while running nicely on those, it might not on a Huawei.
Why?
Because.
Because the vendor did something the others did not, and no one expected it. But your customers will hold you responsible for it. Because your app is crashing. And you don't want this.
So bottom line: There is no best phone for testing. Get a number of different devices from different vendors and test on all of them. Yes, it is expensive and tedious work, but you asked for it...and your customers will be thankful for a stable app. :)
Google nexus series is the best. Just use nexus for tests

Is there somekind of log (like an OS event log or something) that could maybe give me an idea as to why an application crashes on start?
The specifics (irrlevant to the question itself):
I have recently purchased a copy of Final Fantasy Dimensions for my Android phone (Motorla XT615 with Android 2.3.7) and everytime I click on it I get a flicker (black-screen) and then it goes back to the home screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions or am I way off base with this one?
Thanks,
There are apps a user can download from Google Play that can grab log files to be sent to a developer. For example: Log Collector and CatLog.
Note: With Jelly Bean and later, root access is required for an app to access the logs of another app, so the log-grabbing apps listed above may not be useful for the average Android user.
If you have Android development tools available, see How to get Android crash logs?
You could read the log using apps such as CatLog or Log Collector, but it probably isn't going to help you find the FC issue, unless you actually had the code for it right in front of you, which you wouldn't have unless you were a dev of the game. But, anyways, good luck!

I was just thinking it can't be great for the battery memory if the device is always charging at about 90-100%.
Couldn't find anything on Google.
Does anybody know about this?
This is perfectly fine, for older phones the batteries couldn't handle being charged constantly and being taken on and off all the time so this was a bad idea.
However, newer devices this doesn't matter as the battery is much better suited for this type of work. Plus android takes care of the battery, i.e. when it feels it may be getting a tad too warm it will stop charging (although the phone will still show as charging) to let it cool.
This is completely fine and safe

I have a SEMC X10 Mini Pro, which has a tendency to randomly reset itself for no apparent reason.
I would like to inspect the Android system log file just prior to the reset, however I am unsure how to do this.
I have tried the app "Log Collector", however, the logs produced by this app only contain information from the last start-up, ie they don't contain the logging I'm interested in - before the "last start-up", around the "last shutdown".
Any advice out there?
You will probably get better luck on Android Stack Exchange, unless you are looking to do this programmatically. In which case take a look through the Log Collector source code and see if you can modify it to save you a txt file that will persist through a restart so you can go back through it once the device is rebooted.
