Android eclipse editor: Unable to edit properties
I have changed my computer recently with the last version of Eclipse and ADT plugin and I'm confused.
I have noticed some changed with the ADT plugin and now I can't put specific values in the properties box in Eclipse.
I used to click on a Layout (in graphical View); then I went to the properties box and change one of a Layout properties to a specific value like 50dp.
Now I don't have a choice, I can only select fill_parent, wrap_content, match_parent ...
I order to do what I want, I need to edit xml manually.
Do I miss something or not ?
If you look in the toolbar just above your layout, use the button with a dashed square in it.

After updating Android Studio to 3.5 whenever I auto format code (cmd+opt+l) it changes the order of the view tags inside the xml.
So for example in a LinearLayout your views would move around
Found the solution:
Preferences -> Editor -> Code Style -> XML
Search for Set from on the top left.
Set from -> Predefined Style -> Android
Don't forget to apply your changes

Previous Android Studio version, my hands are very used to click Ctl+Alt+L to format code whenever I have typed some code block. After I updated to Android Studio 3.5, I formatted the code in XML and it is giving me wrong arrangement of my views and destroying my design.
Here is the design before code reformatting.
After code reformatted (click -> Ctl+Alt+L), my views was shuffled in both design and xml code side. please see second picture.
It seems a bug and I already reported it to Google Issue Tracker.
I just got answer from one of my colleague. That works well.
Settings -> Editor -> Code Style -> XML-> Set From -> Predefined
Style > Android.
Just updated to latest version (2.2) and saw the checkboxes that you can check in the properties window. There is three different options to choose from which two is pretty self explanatory, the checkbox that is checked and the one with minus in it. But what does the blank one mean? I tried all three and didn't notice any difference between the blank and minus. Probably not only specific to android studio but first time I se it.
It might be a bit late for an answer, but I've just had the same question while playing around with Android Studio. The meaning of the three states of the check boxes for boolean properties can be found by looking at the text view of the layout xml-file:
checked -> property set "true"
blank -> property set "false"
minus symbol -> property unused, will not appear in the xml-file
I am trying for last 3 days to show up my custom view properties in my Android Studio Design Panel, so I can directly edit custom properties of my view directly from the design editor and my supervisor can create an app without any coding knowledge by dragging a view in editor and simply editing its properties from the designer panel.(without modifying XML code. It is a very simple app, so I think its just okay).
However, it seems I have no luck. I have asked one question on it, got only one reply and its also not working. The question is here:

I have checked almost all custom properties of views in android tutorials, downloaded source codes and find that none of these was able to show up the custom properties in android design panel.
So now, I have big doubt, if it is actually possible to show up any custom properties for a view in Android Studio. Its a bit strange that there is no single discussion/tutorial on it in online. Every tutorial suggests, how to create custom properties using xml layout or code, but none discussed, how to show up that in android studio. I believe, andoid studio can only show up default properties set for a view and we have to edit custom properties by editing XML files only.
Can you please tell me if its correct? I am really very frustrated with it and want to leave it now. If any of you got succeed to bring custom properties of views in Android Studio editor, I will be very grateful, if you kindly reply/answer.

I am using Eclipse on Linux Mint for android development. When I select any object and view its properties, I am not able to view the pop-up window which normally appear while selecting certain properties like GRAVITY, INPUT METHOD etc. I have attached the screen shot:
even after clicking the GRAVITY property, no window appeared.
As a workaround, try going to the render target dropdown (which is the dropdown showing "19" above the layout towards the right) and switching to an earlier version, such as 18.
