I'm trying to set up my old Android phone for testing my apps. The phone is still on 2.1 (Samsung Captivate) and is inactive. I can't get my Macbook Pro on OS X (10.8.2) to recognize the phone. I have the box checked for USB debugging in settings, but when I plug the USB cable in, nothing happens. If I go to the adb directory and type ./adb devices, I show no devices attached.
Any ideas?
First of all Install device drivers for your phone if you have not installed it.
if you already did it and still not recognizing then try rebooting the device and Mac both.may b it will work.

I am trying to push software to my phone from android studio but something very strange is happening. My Samsung S7 is detected under usb devices but not under android devices and there are 6 "ghost" android devices that are not in the usb devices list but show up in adb, all the "ghost" devices are listed as api level 1 and are unaccessable and i cannot connect to my phone, also my phone has usb debugging enabled, is in mtp mode and i have all the adb stuff and mtpfs and jmtpfs installed on my computer
Edit: Also when I connect my phone to my laptop my phone says The connected device is unable to access data on this device. Reconnect the USB device and try again
Edit 2: I added some udev rules and now the ghost devices have dissapeared but my device is still not accessable
Edit 3: I can access the files on my phone through MTP but adb still does not recognize it
Try changing the connection type in your phone for example from Media Device (MTP) to Camera (PTP). I had the same issue with my Galaxy S8 and changing the connection type fixed it.
I'm trying to connect my samsung galaxy s6 to my macbook pro to run my apps from android studio; however, when I connect my phone to my mac via the usb cable that came with the phone, i get a notification on my phone that it is charging but my macbook and android studio do not detect it.
I have usb debugging on.
Kies and filetransfer don't work.
I cant see the directory in finder even though I have show external disks and hard disks checked.
My phone and mac are both running the latest versions of android and OSX.
Turns out that the cord provided by samsung is with mac computers due to OEM compatibility issues. Using a different cord with correct OEM data transfer compatibility will fix the issue.
I solve it by using android file transfer. Download it from android official website https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Install it on Macbook Pro and connect your phone with cable and ROCK!
Try PdaNet, it can help you find your device's driver version and match with your device.
I'm also having this issue. I've got an s6 edge and a new macbook retina pro; so it's definitely not an issue of "old mac" to new samsung.
Edit: Fixed it by chatting with samsung.
From your phone dial *#0808# then check the MTP option to enabled. Hit reboot.
Also make sure to install smart switch on your computer, available at http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/smartswitch/
When the smartswitch window appears, hit the drop down menu, and then click the blue folder icon. That should do it.
I tried with another USB cable and it worked. Its the problem with defult USB cable coming along with mobile.
I was facing the issue with Samsung Note-8. My macbook pro was not detecting my phone. So, i just tried with another cable and it worked. there is no need to download samsun
I am having a small issue with Android Studio. Whenever I put my phone into either of the front two USB ports, it shows my device as "Offline". If I use any of the back USB ports, it recognises the device perfectly fine.
I can charge and browse my phone fine from the front two USB ports. I have tried resetting ADB, and installing/updating Samsung USB drivers. I have tried enabling and disabling USB debugging - but no luck.
It really can't be an issue with the phone or with Android Studio, as in the back USB ports it works fine - surely it has to be an issue with the front USB port?
Anybody have any ideas on how I could solve this? (Other than just using the back ones!)
I have the same problem. I have 4 USB 3.0 ports on the computer and 2 USB 2.0 on the keyboard. Nexus 5 can be plugged and recognized on all of them while Samsung Galaxy S4 is not recognized on one of the keyboard ports and one of the PC ports. In my case it is the device I guess. You can try with another device to see.
You can try this:
Go to tools/enable adb integration and uncheck it.
now check it and run again. Next time, android studio will restart adb and it may find your device.
As title, I can't able to find my phone device into Eclipse.
I activated on the my phone, either Application/Unknown Source and Application/Development/Debug USB.
But into Eclipse not appear any device phone, why?
Thanks'
Go to the cmd prompt, and then take it to the platform-tools.
Then type the commands
adb kill-server
and then
adb start-server
Then to list the connected devices,
adb devices
you will see the list of active devices including the emulator. If the device is not present, continue the steps for some time..
After you get the device listed among the active ones, you can run it in debug mode.
Think, this will help you..! :)
I just had the same problem on 2 of my phones (Nexus 1 and Amaze 4G). After some research I found that people try to overcome this by restarting Eclipse and ADB (only Eclipse won't do) but it took me rebooting the system and phone to make it work again. If you can go to Eclipse->Window->Open Perspective->DDMS and see if your phone shows there with red bug icon next to your app. If so then try what I described above. If you don't see your device in DDMS perspective then it's your USB driver that is not working and needs to be reinstalled
Had a similar problem with my LG P520. In my case, the problem was as a result of me setting the minimum Android level to Android 2.3(9) while the phone was a Froyo/Android 2.2(8) phone. Hence, it was not a compatible device and would hence not be shown in list of compatible devices.
connect your PC with internet may be it will install some software to connect it with the phone debugger and make sure you enable the usb debugging on your phone.
I've followed this post trying to run my application on my galaxy. My app is debuggable, USB debugging is checked on phone and I've manually installed USB drivers - my device manager shows me that I have Android ADB Interface installed.
Despite it all - when I am running adb devices it would only list the emulator.
Any ideas? thanks!
P.s. I am running windows 7 and the mobile is Samsung Galaxi 1900I
I use Droid X, in Win 7.
sometimes it is not work too (adb can't detect my device)
but the solutions is simple, just switch usb connection into Windows Media Sync (ie. from PC Mode) , it is work for me.
also make sure to set your device in Debug mode (USB Debugging)
Yotamoo, When you first plug in, Windows offers you some choices on how to deal with the new device; Open in File Explorer, etc...one of them is Windows Media Player. Choose that. I had similar problems and this solution worked for me and my galaxy S3...
hakim, why does this work?
Make sure you installed the USB Drivers.
Locate your phone in Device Manager and see if it working correctly.
These are the correct drivers.
Turn Debugging mode on on your phone.
You will be prompted to accept USB debugging on your device if it detects some application would like to use it.
After you agree it will pop up as a debug-able device.
I had the same problems.
Try to update your smartphone in the device manager (computer->properties).
