Freely move imageview around page - android

i'm using Eclipse to make an android app. I'm a beginner and i'm wondering how on earth I can place an image on my page where ever I want. It keeps locking in certain places due to alignments. Surely you must be able to click the image view and drag it into the desired place??

If you use RelativeLayout or FrameLayout as a container, you can place the inner Views wherever you want. They still have to be aligned somehow, but by changing the margins they can be on every position in the parent.

Animation: Move TextView into another container

I want to move, in an anmiated way, a TextView in a LinearLayout into another LinearLayout.
However, I can't get it to move outside its container view (the LinearLayout it is in), it only moves inside this. Can someone help me to get this done? Also see the following image:
I'm using the NineOldAndroids library and have tried with the ViewPropertyAnimator:
animate(myTextView).setDuration(500).x(?).y(?);
And also with:
animate(myTextView).setDuration(500).translationX(?).translationY(?);
Instead of the '?' in above I want to be able to find out the position of the LinearLayout I want to drop the TextViews in. (If it's not possible to move to a certain View by stating the View-object).
What need to be done is to add "android:clipChildren="false"" to all the container layouts.

Android - keeping a single element contained on screen

I'm experimenting to see if the layout scheme I want to use is possible. I want to have an XML layout that's scrollable. Within that scrollable layout, I want to have a single line going horizontally across the screen (I used just a View with a fixed height and different color). When that horizontal line reaches the top of the screen, and as I scroll down through the layout, I want it to stop and remain at the top of the screen while being able to scroll through everything below it.
I've been messing around in XML trying to get it to work, basically putting a bunch of junk before it and after it.
Any ideas as to how that might work? Would I have to do something fancy with the java code to fix the red line at the top when the scroll position reaches a certain point? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
I am assuming you want something like Gmail app where when you scroll a mail the header sticks on top... To do this, you need 2 views. You have your regular scroller below and overlay a fixed view on top (you can use a relative layout to do this). When your cell goes past a certain spot, you want to populate and set the visibility of the fixed view to VISIBLE. This would give the impression that the view you want to 'stick' to the top really just got stuck rather than scrolled out of view. You'll have to work out the opposite scrolling scenario too based on the location and height of the scrolled cell/view.

Which layout can provide free drag and drop insertion?

I'm using Eclipse graphical layout, and i want to Drag and Drop components to the layout and i want them to stay at the exact position that i dragged them.
Relative Layout is the closet thing but it changes the location of the components after couple insertion.

No, you don't. Android devices come with screens in many different sized and resolutions, so fixed positioning of components is a recipe for making the application unusable to users with a different screen that you.
The point of layouts is that they can adjust to different screen sizes. Learn to use them properly.
You're looking for AbsoluteLayout, but it is deprecated.
RelativeLayout is the way to go, just pay some attention to the hints drawed on-screen when you place your elements.
You should be careful also to avoid circular references otherwise your items will be scattered randomly over the layout. (Example: Textview A on right of TextView B; TextView B on left of TextView A)
Be careful also when you change your element's id because the IDE does not update automatically all the references and thus your layout gets scattered again. When you update an ID you must update all its references in the XML file by hand.
Actually absolute layout is the answer what u want ,but that is deprecated.Relative layout does what you want.But it arrange its child based on parent position.If you drag a text view ,then other view will depend on this text view.If you have inserted 2 view,then third view will depend on the parent(2 views).But in between if u disturb any of the view ,it may affect other views.So do things systematically
In Java what we can typically use is GroupLayout. You may see what the equivalent is for android.

In android, can I add child views to an ImageView?

I have a layout which contains a ScrollView which contains various components including an ImageView. I've found that I can add a TouchListener to the ImageView and the x,y values I get for the event are offset from the corner of the ImageView (including padding). Thus I can easily handle touch events without worrying about the state of the ScrollView.
The problem is that I don't see a way to add a view on top of the ImageView so that I can make a visual change to the ImageView when it's touched in certain locations.
Specifically, there are various boxes in the image which I'd like to highlight when they're tapped. I can add a view to the activity, but I'd have to take the state of the ScrollView into account in order to display things in the right spot.
What's the best way to approach this? Can I derive a new version of ImageView, overload the draw method, and use that somehow? (not sure how I'd specify it in the xml, I'd probably need to set it in the onCreate of the activity)
You should be able to override the onDraw method of the ImageView as you suggested and draw stuff on top of the ImageView. The onDraw method gives you the Canvas that you could draw on. In the XML, you could just use the name of the new class you created instead of "ImageView" (unless you want to add parameters in addition to the ones offered by ImageView, this should be pretty straight forward).

It seems that you are more comfortable with having a separate view that you could work on. You could do that by encapsulating the ImageView with a FrameLayout and then adding another view of any kind as a sibling of that ImageView. This view would be drawn on top of the ImageView if it was mentioned in the FrameLayout after the ImageView. This solution may not be the most efficient one, but it might get you started. Overriding the onDraw method of the ImageView would definitely be the best option.
you can make a relativelayout or something with a background as your desired image instead of having just an imageview. then you can have child views within that relativelayout.

Scrolling text display in Android

Android newbie here. I know I can use TextView for scrolling text display but my question is a little different.
I want to show step by step details of moves in a game in a box on a View. It should be something similar to the scrolling text you see on most poker games. The requirements are you should be able to scroll through it to see the entire game moves. I am drawing the entire View using draw() and so was wondering how to get TextView on there. Can I add it to the View and position it myself in code? From what I see it seems like I should add TextView through the XML for the Activity. Is there another way around it or may be is there another widget I can use to solve my problem?

You could try using a FrameLayout and overlay a TextView over your custom drawn view. It may be difficult to position the TextView precisely. Alternately you could extend ViewGroup and manage the view layout however you want.
