Import project in Android Studio from Eclipse - android

I installed new Android Studio 0.1.1 based on IDEA ide and tried Import code from Eclipse.
Go to Eclipse->Export->Grandle so it add gradle file
Open Android Studio and select Import Project and select my project folder with build.gradle file
Press Finish and get an Error: failed to find target android-15 (this is was parget of my project)
I go to system variables and change to %ANDROID_HOME% = d:\dev\android\android-studio\sdk\ (remove platform-tools from path)
And get new error: failed to find Build Tools revision 15.0.0
Also create another New Project and change Android SDK for it, but I still cant import project
I explore this problem and find the weak point: in file build.gradle I change next lines:
from compileSdkVersion 15 to compileSdkVersion "17"
from buildToolsVersion "15" to buildToolsVersion "17"
And it fix my problem with project import. I think it's problem in Eclipse export function. Build tools starts only from version 17 (in ADT 22), so it's imposible to find version 15.

Had same problem, now works. I did this:
Open android studio:
Tools -> android -> SDK manager then install the android 4.0.3 (API 15) and done.
It worked for me.

These simple steps worked for me:
Open new project (new not import)
Press F4
On the left Click on SDKs
Delete all SDKs
Click on +
Choose the SDK you are using for eclipse
Choose the right version
Click OK
Open your project using gradle file
Enjoy :)

This is an import problem. NOT an SDK Level issue.
You need version 22 of the SDK Manager before you attempt the export or it won't be in a format that Android Studio can consume.

Do you have updated SDK for Eclipse?
You need the Rev.22. After you downloaded it, you can Export the Project with a "build.gradle".
Migration of the Projects
Updating your SDK

Update SDK go to config settings, project settings then you will see SDK that isn't correct point to same place eclipse points to for SDK.
Worked for me.
Also it might help to reexport the project with new sdk

Update your android APIs using Android SDK Manager. It seems you have installed API lower than level 15.

For general 'import project' info, search for the word 'import' on
this install-guide document for Android Studio:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/studio.html
EDIT: I've recently learned to use the 'import' dialog, so that I can
import projects from GitHub, which is very cool! (I first watched a tutorial
on YouTube titled 'git and github'). Then I learned that one needs to
use 'git' to "Clone" an entire GitHub repository (to bring a dir-tree full
of separate projects to your development machine). Then, you can navigate
into that sub-tree, to a given project of interest, and then use Android
Studio's 'import' dialog to play with that example project.
WOW, NEAT!
Hope this helps...

Had the same problem when Android studio 0.2.9 on mac and importing an old eclipse project:
By default, it uses /Applications/Android Studio.app/sdk as the android sdk location, instead of whatever you used to use.
On a per-project basis, you can go to the menu's File->Project Structure (command-;) and on the left you can change the project's sdk location.
To handle all projects (new or imported), before opening anything at the start screen click configure -> Project Defaults -> Project Structure -> (on the left) Android SDK to do the same. (re: https://stackoverflow.com/a/18409923/954643)
If you were starting from scratch without any android sdk setup and eclipse though, you'd have to download the missing SDKs via Tools->Android->SDK Manager.

I simply solved the problem by changing the project build target (Project properties->Android->Project Build Target).

In the file build.gradle change your compileSdkVersion to your current version. For me it is 23. Your buildToolsVersion would be the same number. Hence the only thing I had to do was
Change CompileSdkVersion 15 to CompileSdkVersion 23 in the build.gradle

From the quick start window, choose Configure, then choose Project Defaults, and then choose Project Structure. Then on the left under Platform Settings choose SDKs. Then to the right of that choose the current android platform, mine was Android 4.2.2 Platform, and delete it using the red minus button at the top, then add a new android platform using the green plus button at the top and point it to your current SDK folder and that is it.

android sdk error when import some projects

I have SDK version 25, when i import a project in android studio this error occurs.
"Install missing platform(s) and sync project".
If I click this link, I get another error, which says:
"The following packages are not available: - Package id
platforms;android-23".
sdk error
my SDK version
You need to change the gradle version manually. For example if you are using Android Studio here is how:
Change the project view to Android if it's needed.
Go to the app folder.
Open the build.gradle (Module:app).
Change wherever you see the current SDK version (here, 23) to your desired version (here, 25).
5. Sync the project again.
And it's done.
Note that if you forgot anything needed the change, Android Studio will display a message and change it automatically.
Your sdk platforms are missing. It must be from version 2.1 to 8.0. Try to reinstall your Studio and Sdk Manager.
Note: This only works if you are getting sdk issue in a particular project and other project works fine
One of the simplest fix I can suggest that worked for me
create a new android project and see if it works fine
If yes the Click File-->Export Settings(make sure to check all options) --->choose any location to save settings.
Go back to your project click File-->Import Settings from the saved location (make sure you select all options)
let the IDE Restart
Hope this fixes the issue

Cannot run my app, asking to select Android SDK

Today I've installed Android Studio Canary 1
Now I cannot run my app. This following dialog appears.
I've already set the right SDK location through File-> Project Structure-> Android SDK location.
Expecting your help to solve this problem.
Warning Dialog image:
Go to project structure settings and set Source Compatibility and Target Compatibility to your current java development kit version:
Just you need to sync your project file with your gradle file.
File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
I tried every answer in this post but my problem only got resolved when I made these steps:
File -> Close project -> Remove project -> Open existing project (same
project)
Maybe this will save a morning to another person with the same bug.
EDIT
This happened to me a lot on a MacBook. After I posted this answer it just kept happening so what I did was:
uninstall the Android Studio version I had from the App Store;
download the desktop stable version from Android Studio website;
start using the desktop version of Android Studio.
Never happened again.
Sometimes the SDK path will be incorrectly configured. You would need to fix it.
To Settings/Preferences( command + , on mac).
Search for SDK
Under Android SDK, click on edit and point it the root of sdk directory on your file system. (If ther is no SDk installed then install in from the below list).
i suggest you go to build.gradle and sync again.
Or Tools -> Android -> Sync Project with Gradle Files (Android 3+)
You need to insall SDK api 19 check this out.
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platforms
Go to sdk manager and install sdk according to your device and check your device api. Example if your device is jellybean then install api 19 sdk.
Go to Tools> Android > SDK Manager and make sure you have selected default Setting under System Setting. In this image I have selected Android 7.1.1 as default SDK
Just click on the button ..."Sync Project with gradle file"
Error will be remove
I had the same problem and what it worked for me was just sync with gradle.
I just did what I've found in this similar question:
How do I "select Android SDK" in Android Studio?
The original answer:
go to build.gradle and click sync now. Then it worked.
Update :
File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files (Android Studio 3.1.1)
Tools -> Android -> Sync Project with Gradle Files (Android Studio
3.0.1) Or You can click on the icon from the toolbar.
Sync Project Icon
This answer may not help works for later version as Android studio Team work on making the tool more better, the way to sync may be
different in the next version of Android Studio.
COMMON WAY that may helps is try to sync project and then Invalidate
Caches and Restart Android Studio.
Solution for Android Studio 3.1.2
Before that, by the way, I had invalidated cache and restarted too, but it didn't work.
Please, try and let us know.
P.S.
I had this problem after I imported a project from Git, just in case someone would like to replicate.

android studio 0.4.2 + gradle + Android Source code

I'm trying to attach the android source code to my gradle project using Android Studio. The problem is that the SDK tab does not appear if you are using a gradle project and I can not attach the source code. I tried with version 0.4.3 and does not work.
Any idea or work arround?
EDIT: I've attach a capture with my project structure without sdk option.
Thank you,
The short explanation is that Android Studio has added some functionality to try to automatically manage IntelliJ SDKs; if you give it a JDK path and Android SDK path in Project Structure > Android SDK, it will automatically create a Java SDK and Android SDKs for each API level you have installed in your Android SDK. The problem is, if it creates an Android SDK for an API level that doesn't have the sources downloaded, if you go into SDK Manager later and download the source, it doesn't pick that up and update its SDK. I've filed https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=65230 for this. In that bug I list two workarounds, which I'll explain here:
You can actually get at the SDKs panel you're looking for. We hide it if you have a Gradle-based project open since we want Gradle-based project users to not have to worry about it, but since we also support IntelliJ-style projects that use its internal builder, it's still possible to access it so those users will be able to make their projects work. You can get at this panel if you access Project Structure without a project open. To do so:
Close all open projects
From the Welcome to Android Studio screen, go to Configure > Project Defaults > Project Structure > SDKs
Choose the appropriate Android API SDK that you installed source for, and go to Sourcepath panel
Press the + button, and choose the source directory.
If you're having trouble following that, let me know and I can post screenshots.
Another approach would be to blow away all of Android Studio's auto-created SDKs and let it rebuild them. To do that
Exit Android Studio
Delete the jdk.table.xml file, which on MacOS will be in your home directory under Library/Preferences/AndroidStudioPreview
Relaunch Android Studio
Go into Project Structure (either from the Welcome screen or from a project), and choose the Android SDK tab
Make sure the Android SDK location and JDK location are correct.
Check the compileSdkVersion in your build.gradle file and download the "Source for Android SDK" for respective API from Android SDK Manager.
SDK manager icon will be available on Android Studio tool bar.
Nothing else needs to be done.
Note : Source Code for Android SDK is only available for and after API 13 .

android studio new project missing folders

I have created a new project using the latest version of Android Studio (0.2.2), this is a fresh install of studio. When I am in the project explorer view, it fails to show me any folders for my project. I should see a root project folder, and within it the .idea, gradle, and module folders, but they are not showing.
Here is what I expect to see (taken from the sample project created on first boot):
But here is what I see immediately after the project's creation:
I cannot figure out how to expose my project's folders! I do not want to develop without the project explorer, it's simply too much of a hassle. Did I create the project incorrectly, or am I missing some not-so-obvious setting somewhere?
Thanks.
The problem here is that I assumed android studio would create a module for the application. I assumed this because it asked me at the beginning for app name, module name, package, sdk info etc.
This assumption turned out to be false. You must create your first module manually through File > Project Structure. After that is done, the project explorer shows the files.
File -> Project Structure -> Modules
Add Button (Green plus button) click -> New Module Select
New Module window -> "Content root" change path button click to select "Project root file path"
Apply to change save and "OK" button exit.
In the project Explorer there is a drop down menu where you have selected project, now change it to project files.
I hope this will solve your problem. reply if it didn't.
You have created a new gradle project not a new android project.
Update your android studio tools to 0.2.3 - Go to Help menu - select check for update.
then Update your android sdk tools, android support repository, android support library and android build tools using android sdk manager.
And update some configuration in project structure. Go to File menu->project structure -> in projects tab select Android SDK as default sdk and in SDKs tab set correct path to updated android sdk.
Now restart android studio and try to create a new project and it should work fine.
(Noted for posterity) I had a similar issue come up recently, when importing an Eclipse android project. The issue was that the source folder wasn't added as such. I had to manually go into Project Structure -> Modules -> Sources and make sure that the "src" folder wasn't excluded and was marked a source folder.
Although this question is asked years ago. But now following simple solution worked for me.
Clicking 'Sync Project With Gradle files' makes all directories visible.
I had this exact same issue, there are some problem if you upgrade from 0.1.9 version to 0.2.0 in Windows.
Android Studio 0.2.0 Release
The solution (which worked for me) was to completely uninstall Android Studio and reinstall the 0.2.0 version.
I had the same problem today. Additionally, the IDE posted an "Assertion Error" into its event log.
Downloading and reinstalling the preview version, then applying the patch to 0.2.6 worked for me.
Change the SDK to a level that you have installed in the SDK manager. The SDK manager can be accessed from Tools -> Android -> SDK Manager. For me, Android Studio was packaged with API Level 17 but the new project wizard tried to target API Level 18.

unable to get system library for the project on eclipse ide

I was working on an android tutorial and it wanted me to import the library from another project .The import worked and the project works correctly. But I noticed that doing that messed up several of my other projects (the ones that use Android 2.1) by apparently messing with the build path. Now instead of seeing "Google APIs [Android 2.1]" under the gen folder I see "Unable to get system library for project".
I verified the following:
I right-clicked the project and went to Properties I see that the correct Project Build Target is checked(Google APIs [Android 2.1]), but "Unable to get system library for project" is still shown above the assets folder and below gen and Android Dependencies. Cleaning all projects doesn't help.
How can I fix this problem?
is there a way to fix this issue globally or do I have to do it one by one?
I had the same problem. Try
Right click on your project
Go to properties
Click the Android section
Select a different target api (assuming one is already selected, as mine was - otherwise, select the one you want and jump to step 9)
Click OK
Do steps 1-3 again
Select your original target api
Click OK
Clean and build your project
Worked for me, anyway.
Derived the solution from:
"Unable to get system library for project" after I upgraded to Android SDK 2.3 and ADT 8.0
Error in .classpath on your project. It not connect to android sdk. Fix it and clean project. :-)
This happens when you are targetting an API version that for some reason is not mapped on your buildpath.
See which is the version of the SDK you are pointing to at the project.properties file.
Go to the SDK Manager at Window->Android SDK Manager
Check the Android API item that matches the version you want to use, OR, click on the latest one and then update your project.properties file.
Make sure your project build configuration is Project->"Build Automatically"
Retsart Eclipse (claning and rebuilding may not refresh all the project properties)
Borrowing from #Erhannis answer :
"
Right click on your project
Go to properties
Click the Android section
"
When I view the build target everything looked fine :
So I checked another build target , hit apply, and then re checked my original build target (Android 4.4.2) and re-hit apply. My project then compiled.
For me the project.properties file was missing (it was code from a repo I checked out). So I just created one with this line:
target=android-20
After that, Erhannis' solution worked for me.
Just for completing Erhannis answer: If you fixed the problem but it appears again when you restart Eclipse, then just go to the file local.properties on your workspace folder and verify that the location of the Android SDK there is correct.
At times, when only single Android SDK version is installed on your system, and if it gets changed either by un-installing / re-installing Eclipse, or otherwise (directly through SDK Manager), then this issue might crop up.
.
This is accompanied by the message like this on Eclipse console:
YourApp] Unable to resolve target 'android-22'
.
A simple workaround to this issue is:
Open AndroidManifests.xml of the project, and in the:
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="14"
android:targetSdkVersion="21" />
change the targetSdkVersion to the one currently installed on your system
Next, open the project.properties file and update
target=android-21
to your current SDK version
Finally, clean and re-build the project
Right Click on Project-> Select Android tools -> Select Fix Project Properties
This did the trick for me.
You need to click on the menu icon with the Android sitting in the grey box with a white arrow pointing down "Opens the Android SDK Manager".
or, from the command line, run:
%ANDROID_HOME%\tools\android sdk
