I have just started development in Android... and I have searched a lot for the answer to the question below. It seems a very basic thing which I cannot figure out.
I am using eclipse Juno, APK17 on Windows server 2007 . When I try out the emulator I do not see the options to change the size or resolution as I have seen in many articles (example) Instead the only option available for me is "skin : Display a skin with hardware controls ". Under "Start", i can set the resolution but the settings are lost once I run the application. How can I get the emulator to show the skin and resolution as shown in the example? Is it an option available on Eclipse on Windows?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys so I am trying to set up my 16 inch MacBook pro M1 pro for react native app development. While setting android studio I tried to set the android studio emulator with skin but it does not work. I tried searching the web but didn't find much information and as far as I have seen Youtube most of them also have the same. I tried the advanced settings and tried to set the skin option but it still doesn't work I'm just asking is it my set up or it's with everyone
I had this exact issue with Android Studio's Emulator on my 2020 M1 Macbook. I tried many different devices and android versions but it seems that Android skins/ frames/ camera cut outs are unsupported on the new silicon chips: https://medium.com/mobile-app-development-publication/my-journey-to-setup-android-emulator-for-m1-macbook-pro-b8365321b3e7
However, I found a workaround that will get you a punch-hole camera and a couple of different options that might suit your needs. This can be achieved by:
Go into the phone settings app (the emulated device settings, within the emulator itself)
Find the build number (usually under "About emulated device")
Click on the build number 7+ times (this activates developer options)
Go into the developer options and find "device cut out"- here there will be several options such as a punch hole camera which will make the AVD emulate a suitable cut out within the device screen. This will at least allow you to test to see if your status bar is responsive to such things.

Hope this helps and please let me know if you find another way.
Im running android studio on a surface 4 pro, which has a higher resolution than my desktop monitor.
When i dock the surface, the text in Android studio is massive, and i cant find a way to make it a more acceptable size.
I would appreciate pointers from anyone who has already faced this.
Thanks
You can try to follow this post, if does not work, then do ctrl+alt+s and from Keymap assign a combination of keys to enlarge and diminish the text in a class
I have a problem with my android emulator. It only shows a fraction of the screen.
Screenshot:
I have Android Studio version 3.0.
I tried a lot of things. I could fix the error when I use the emulator with Software emulated graphics but it is really slow.
know someone the solution?
thank you.
Make sure you have configured hardware acceleration correctly.
Disable the Device Frame by edit action.
Start the emulator and Go to Extended Control
Go to Settings and change OpenGLES render to Desktop native OpenGL
Restart Emulator and Resize the Emulator Window.
The story is that I developed an Android program with Android 4.4.2. But some problems was found after installing the program to a device with Android 5.1.1. So I tried to download Android 5.1.1 for my SDK to debug the problem. Then the AVD I kept on using becomes like a mess no matter I changed to different configuration (see picture 1). My AVD configuration is as picture 2.
Hope someone could help... Thank you so much!

Got a temporary way to solve it and don't know if it is correct.
Set the skin to "no skin".
There is another problem happened now. The control bar of that window shows out of the screen. It makes the window cannot be moved. Anyway, I can continue my development job in this way...
I have built android ICS(4.0.3) for virtualBox. And it runs well with default resolution 800x600.
However, when I change the virtualbox resolution to non-default ones, say 1280x800.
Then I get error "Unfornately, System UI has stopped". And the system hangs there. In addition, I cannot even connect to this device to see the logs when resolution changes.
Would you please give me some help? Thanks.
BTW,
The way I change resolution is suggested by Buildroid ----
First add a “custom video mode” to .vbox configuration file : Add the line
< ExtraDataItem name=”CustomVideoMode1″ value=”1280x800x16″/>
just after the already present “ExtraDataItem” entries.
Modify the linux kernel options to replace the existing vga=xxx by a vga=ask
Then, choose the expected resolution.
Maybe you find solution in this wiki article: Android Emulation.
