WHERE to find Android "Fingerpaint" demo? (Android Studio era) - android

Many, many Android discussions focus on the (apparently, famous) Fingerpaint sample:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/16650524/294884
Where do I get it, to use with Android Studio? .. 2014
http://developer.android.com/samples/index.html
Or is it now just completely out of date and legacy? Thanks for any info
Android Studio: it has NO folders, samples/ or the like............
There's a possibility the beloved SDK Manager, on Mac - Studio, could help?
Would I have to go with the API11 folder?
The Android page does not seem to show Fingerpaint: here's what I see
Looking in each category, there is no Fingerpaint....
On a Mac, I did manage to download API11 Samples using the beloved ADKManager. Incerdibly, on Mac they are deeply hidden inside a package (screw Macs!) But that "sample" is not there...sad

I found it! Thanks to Golem and Raghunandan
It is incredibly hard to find it on a Mac. Use SDKManager to download API11Samples.
Next you have to on a Mac "package contents" the Studio app itself,
and drill way down. try "ApiDemos"
I simply don't know if this is the latest version of the file.
Here is the whole file...
for any Mac users, to save you time:
As far as I know this is the latest version. Please also see the outstanding discussion at https://stackoverflow.com/a/16650524/294884
the entire file Fingerpaint.java: (as far as I know that is the whole sample:)
THIS IS FROM SDK11, 17 or 19:
I CAREFULLY CHECKED AND THE FILE IS IDENTICAL in 11,17,19. Hope it helps someone.

How to get all points in Motion event

I'm developing finger paint type of application for erasing . I m using stroke deletion (not points deletion) for this I m collecting whole stroke objects stored in array-list when stroke deletion , I just compared for each stroke and delete the particular stroke. While re-rendering whole strokes in canvas after deletion ,I m missing many points even though I m collecting my historical points event
check this link for Getting All x and y coordinates from a motion event in android.
OR
try this code
void printSamples(MotionEvent ev) {
final int historySize = ev.getHistorySize();
final int pointerCount = ev.getPointerCount();
for (int h = 0; h < historySize; h++) {
System.out.printf("At time %d:", ev.getHistoricalEventTime(h));
for (int p = 0; p < pointerCount; p++) {
System.out.printf(" pointer %d: (%f,%f)",
ev.getPointerId(p), ev.getHistoricalX(p, h), ev.getHistoricalY(p, h));
}
}
System.out.printf("At time %d:", ev.getEventTime());
for (int p = 0; p < pointerCount; p++) {
System.out.printf(" pointer %d: (%f,%f)",
ev.getPointerId(p), ev.getX(p), ev.getY(p));
}
}
From this link for Motion Events.
Hope this helps you.
In apiDemos, in android there is "FingerPaint" demo inside "Graphics" folder. The demo also has option for erase (click the sub menu to see the option). You can refer that.

When you call invalidate without any parameter, it invalidates complete screen (Redraws complete screen rectangle) thereby removing your previous line. Try calling invalidate with proper parameter.

Android FingerPaint Sample Draws Four Lines

I am trying to follow the code for the FingerPaint example provided in Android's APIDemos sample project. In my case (unless this is supposed to happen), four mirrored lines are being drawn, instead of one line under the user's finger, which is what I want. I have not made any changes to the code:

The picture ends up looking like (I was scribbling in the middle of the screen):
This is my first jump into drawing code like this since school, so my understanding of it is a bit shaky at the moment. I want to draw a line that follows the user's finger.
Hi there is an other file in library with the name of GraphicActivity. code is as following.
enter code herepublic class GraphicsActivity extends Activity {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
}
#Override
public void setContentView(View view){
if (false){ // set to true to test Picture
ViewGroup vg = new PictureLayout(this);
vg.addView(view);
view = vg;
}
super.setContentView(view);
}
}
this will provide you single line against your finger touch.

Multitouch not working

I have create my own custom view and i've drawn using canvas. After that I'm adding the custom view to the linear layout. iIm not able to apply multi touch for linear layout. Can multi touch applicable for linear Layout? If so please share me a sample snippet.
Here is my code snippet:

There shouldn't be a problem with the code you have. Have you added:
<uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch"/>
to your AndroidManifest.xml? Also, I believe you have to target Android 2.0 and above for it to work.
Just some suggestions.

the sample program is working good.Once I draw it draws the line.What I want is once I come out of the application the content which I have drawn should be there in the canvas.But I am
not able to get the content which I drawn previously.What is the error in this code.Help me Please.Thanks in advance.
In your aplication you use mCanvas to draw which is linked to mBitmap. You need to save mBitmap into the apllication's directory every time you complete a drawing, though this is up to you how frequently it should be saved.
When you restart your activity/application it should check in your saved preferences if there is a path for the previous drawing and then load it into mBitmap so that you can continue to draw on it.
Here is a code how to save a bitmap:
String myImageFileName = "my_image.jpg";
try {
mBitmap.compress(CompressFormat.JPEG, 80, openFileOutput(myImageFileName, MODE_PRIVATE));
} catch (Exception e) {
Log.e(DEBUG_TAG, "Image compression and save failed.", e);
}
Uri uriToSaveImageTo = Uri.fromFile(new File(myActivity.this.getFilesDir(), myImageFilename));
Now you save uriToSaveImageTo into your preferences ...
