Center icon in Actionbar

I want to insert a centered icon in Actionbar, but i have no idea what code that i need. anyone can help me?
This is my code :
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher);
getSupportActionBar().setTitle("");

step 1: create a custom layout in R.layout. directory, as you desire and then set the view
to action bar
step 2: Set the custom layout.
ActionBar actionBar = getActionBar();
actionBar.setDisplayShowCustomEnabled(true);
View customView = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.customActionBar, null);
actionBar.setCustomView(customView );

From your xml add ToolBar as below and set Icon to ImageView inside it.

How to programmatically add elements to toolbar

I'm currently making an app with backwards support for toolbars, and thus I have this file

I then programatically add it in to the views by doing something like:
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
However, I want to be able to add custom views into the Toolbar, such as EditText and TextView's without hard-coding them into the toolbar.xml above.
Is there any way to do this? It might be worth noting that I'm using the V7 support library.

Step 1 : Add LinearLayout to the toolbar in xml file

Step 2 : Get this LinearLayout in code
Toolbar mToolbar = (Toolbar)findViewById(R.id.toolbar_transaction);
LinearLayout layoutToolbar = (LinearLayout)
mToolbar.findViewById(R.id.toolbar_item_container);
Step3 : Add and Remove view to this LinearLayout using following code
layoutToolbar.addView();
layoutToolbar.removeView();
This can be done without LinearLayout also, by directly adding and removing elements from Toolbar. You can try both the ways.

It is recommended to put the Toolbar layout xml in a separate file:

Then include it in your main.xml
<include layout="#layout/view_action_bar" />
Also make sure to : app:contentInsetStart="0dp" this is the main issue for your magins.

In your ActionBar layout file give the android:heigth as match parent for the Parent View. I also had a same issue with it.

android title won't show in toolbar

I have an xml that I use with so many activities with fragments file but my problem is that I can't display the text I want in the toolbar, I use that xml that way because I have a navigation drawer and I needed to handle somethings so I had to do it that way.
my xml:

as you can see I try to set title to the action bar but it doesn't work.

Setting,
app:title="#string/my_title"
within the declaration of the the android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar, hard codes the title in the toolbar.
To set the title programatically,
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.my_toolbar);
toolbar.setTitle("my title");
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
in your activity class.

I spent about a day looking for the cause of the issue. Neither supportActionBar?.title = "SomeTitle" nor supportActionBar?.setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(true) did not work, nor hacks with custom toolbars from answers here looked good.
My activity is using CollapsingToolbarLayout but not displaying any title, nor label from manifest, nor dynamically set one. But the sample ScrollingActivity (New - Activity - ...) displayed the title.
Finally I set up a sample project, copied MyActivity and ScrollingActivity and looked through the diff.
layout_height both of the AppBarLayout and CollapsingToolbarLayout must be set to match_parent or fixed size. Thats all. See working code below.

I actually had to get the toolbar_title to set the text into each different activity:
toolbar = findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
toolbarTitle = findViewById(R.id.toolbar_title); //<----- here

if your title color is white and the toolbar is also white, you will not differentiate it. So try to change the toolbar color

Given below code worked me:

First I tried with getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(true); and then without it. It worked for both of the cases.

appcompat-v7: Custom view not properly aligned in ActionBar

I am trying to use Appcompat Toolbar based actionBar
Here is my toolbar.xml

And then in my Activity's OnCreate method, I am setting a custom PagerStrip into ActionBar

There is some padding below my PagerStrip in ActionBar. I want to remove this padding.

I had a similar problem: I have migrated to the Toolbar pattern:

but the AppCompat gave me a strange padding around my custom view:
My fix:
Add app:contentInsetStart="0dp" and app:contentInsetEnd="0dp" to the Toolbar attributes; and android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize" to the custom widget attributes.
Result:
Not sure that the solution follows the Material design guidelines, but hope it will help to someone.

Toolbar is widget replacement for Actionbar in some cases.
If you want to use Toolbar then you can try:
Toolbar=(Toolbar)findViewbyId(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionbar(toolbar);
I used Toolbar in DrawerLayout. My navigation drawer can always Top Toolbar.
P/S: use toolbar in ActionBarActivity
