this is the result of this code , I 've margins from top and bottom :
How can I remove this margin ?

It is recommended to put the Toolbar layout xml in a separate file:

Then include it in your main.xml

Also make sure to : app:contentInsetStart="0dp" this is the main issue for your magins.
In your ActionBar layout file give the android:heigth as match parent for the Parent View. I also had a same issue with it.

is it possible to set a subtitle to the CollapsingToolbarLayout like it is possible with a normal toolbar? As far as I know there is no method to do that programmatically. Also, how do I set the white back arrow to the toolbar? Using

does not display anything, also adding
app:navigationIcon="#drawable/abc_ic_ab_back_mtrl_am_alpha"

For the back icon, you need to set the toolbar first and then call setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled():

There are some ways to have subtitle in a CollapsingToolbarLayout.
Have a TextView inside your CollapsingToolbarLayout, but then only title would be your Toolbar's title when CollapsingToolbarLayout is collapsed, no third-party library is needed.

Similar to the question here, but has some key differences. Most notably being that the accepted answer did work until the latest support library releases.
Here's the custom view layout:

Now, when you try to set just the custom view:
ActionBar actionBar = getSupportActionBar();
actionBar.setDisplayShowCustomEnabled(true);
actionBar.setCustomView(R.layout.actionbar);
You end up with a custom layout that doesn't fill the entire width:
To make this more interested, I have a similar setup in a different app:

actionBar.setDisplayOptions(ActionBar.DISPLAY_SHOW_CUSTOM);

This did work, until I updated the support libraries to v21. Once I did, I ended up with the same issue on apps that previously haven't had that issue.
So, my question is, is there a way to make a custom view actionbar fill the width using the latest support library?
Edit After doing some more tests, I found that compiling with targetSdkVersion/compileSdkVersion set to 19 and having v7:19.0.1 (or v7:19.1.0) for the library doesn't have this issue (has the home icon, which is taken care of with the later code), confirming that this is definitely an issue with the latest release.

I had a similar problem: I have migrated to the Toolbar pattern:

but the AppCompat gave me a strange padding around my custom view:
My fix:
Add app:contentInsetStart="0dp" and app:contentInsetEnd="0dp" to the Toolbar attributes; and android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize" to the custom widget attributes.
Result:
Not sure that the solution follows the Material design guidelines, but hope it will help to someone.
Toolbar is widget replacement for Actionbar in some cases.
If you want to use Toolbar then you can try:
Toolbar=(Toolbar)findViewbyId(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionbar(toolbar);
I used Toolbar in DrawerLayout. My navigation drawer can always Top Toolbar.
