I'm facing a strange issue while trying to use a material design FAB button in my app. I'm using this library (https://github.com/makovkastar/FloatingActionButton).
My activity xml has a RecyclerView and the FAB. But the FAB is actually blocking the lower portion of the entire screen. Something like this :

It can be seen in the picture that the RecyclerView containing the cards is being blocked by the Floating Button. Here's the code I'm using:

When you use a LinearLayout as the container for your fragment and FloatingActionButton, items do not overlap: The LinearLayout gives the full width to each component when you use orientation="vertical". Instead, as per the FloatingActionButton readme, you should use a FrameLayout (which allows items to overlap - ensuring the FloatingActionButton appears above the RecyclerView):

In this configuration the ListView is only shown with a height of one of it's rows instead several rows utilizing the available space. The ListView works fine but only one row at a time is displayed.
The same ListView fragment works fine when I put it into a 2-pane landscape layout. How can I make the ListView use the available space ?
Edit:
Found a partial solution by switching to a LinearLayout within the ScrollView. Only problem left is, that the bottom Framelayout overlays a bit of the top FrameLayout when I load the said fragment into it. But that is acceptable in this case as it is only temporary to select some data.

The main reason I did this design was to try to display the
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/threadRecyclerView"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"

properly. However, when it is not being displayed at all. Before adding the two relativelayouts, I have one relative layout and the recyclerview did display, but it match_parent for every item of the list and was not able to fix it. How can I display my view properly?
The problem probably has to do with the layout_height="wrap_content" on your RecyclerView. You need to use setAutoMeasureEnabled(true) for wrap_content to work properly with a RecyclerView.
Here's an example:

threadRecyclerView.getLayoutManager().setAutoMeasureEnabled(true);
And your your XML should look something like this:

Note that setAutoMeasureEnabled only works properly for Android Support Library +23.2
I downloaded some sample code here https://trinitytuts.com/get-contact-list-and-show-in-custom-listview-android/ which searches and lists contacts in my phone. The resulting app builds and loads well. I believe it uses the Android search widget as at the top of my mainactivity I have :

(However I do not have a searachable.xml file which I have seen in some sources
is a feature of this Search Widget)

According to Google in the link above the the search dialogue always appears at the top of an activity, however I am lead to believe the widget can be positioned in different places.
But when I try to change the position of the Searchview in my activity, it doesn't display.
For example, this works fine in my activity_main xml, the searchview is at the top of the page:

This should be putting a text view on top of a featureShoutView on top of a shoutCanvasView.
Instead it is sandwiching the text view in between my two custom views. Both featureShoutView and shoutCanvasView are drawing onto canvases. Any idea what may be causing this issue? Is it possible that two canvases don't play nice in a single layout? Any help is appreciated and I can provide more details as needed.
I'm testing the use of Snackbar for the first time and I'm finding a behaviour which I don't understand. My Activity is composed of a Fragment, which is composed of a FrameLayout with a RecyclerView. I'm using Toolbar and Appbar.
When the Snackbar appears it moves the recyclerView up, I don't want it to behave like this, I want the Snackbar to show OVER the RecyclerView without moving it. I can however remove this from the Layout that contains the fragment:
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
and then the Snackbar displays as I intend it to but of course my fragment overlaps with the Toolbar. I'm new to CoordinatorLayout so I fail to see how to get the behaviour I want. My full code is below.
