Using SlidingTabLayout class from Google IOsched with the attribute mSlidingTabLayout.setDistributeEvenly(true);
But each tab got a text two lines.

I used these two classes...
SlidingTabLayout.java
SlidingTabStrip.java
I would like the result to be with each tab with only one line of text.
How can I do that?
My problem was partially solved by adding textView.setMaxLines(1); in method createDefaultTabView from SlidingTabLayout.
Here is the complete code of the class.

I have try many various way to share the viewpager but fail.Any Idea please
TabLayout topTabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.topTabLayout);
topTabLayout.addTab(topTabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab 1"));
topTabLayout.addTab(topTabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab 2"));
topTabLayout.addTab(topTabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab 3"));
TabLayout bottomTabLayout =(TabLayout)findViewById(R.id.bottomTabLayout);
bottomTabLayout.addTab(bottomTabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab 4"));
bottomTabLayout.addTab(bottomTabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab 5"));
bottomTabLayout.addTab(bottomTabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab 6"));
First of all this is against google material guide line. You can read about it here.
Recently I had a custom TabLayout design work, I have red all the TabLayout code.
This is impossible to do with design support library.
Reflection is an option but leave you with a lot of work and at the end it doesn't what you needed exactly, because the design support library has not been designed for this.
I you want to do this still, you should consider creating a custom TabLayout.
Below is the code follow the steps:
1) Create layout for Activity :
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/job_layout"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:materialdesign="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
>
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="56dp"/>
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#id/toolbar">
<com.xlsys.generic.view.SlidingTabLayout
android:id="#+id/sliding_tabs1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/pager1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#+id/sliding_tabs1"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
2) Create two fragment for two tab if three Tab then create three fragment:
Fragment 1)
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import com.xlsys.generic.activities.R;
public class JobCalender extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View mView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.inspection, container, false);
return mView;
}
}
3) Create xml file for above fragment
3) Same way create another fragment and xml file for another tab.
4) Create Activity :
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentStatePagerAdapter;
import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentManager;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar;
import android.view.View;
import com.xlsys.generic.fragments.Inspection_Fragment;
import com.xlsys.generic.fragments.NC_Fragments;
import com.xlsys.generic.view.SlidingTabLayout;
import android.support.design.widget.TabLayout;
import android.widget.LinearLayout;
import android.widget.TextView;
public class AddLocationActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
private String mPagerItem[]={"Calender","Tab2"};
private Toolbar toolbar;
private SlidingTabLayout mSlidingTabLayout;
ViewPager pager;
public String jobId,mTaskType,taskCreatedDate;
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.addlocation);
getWidgets();
setWidgets();
setWidgetsListener();
}
private void getWidgets()
pager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager1);
mSlidingTabLayout = (SlidingTabLayout)findViewById(R.id.sliding_tabs1);
}
private void setWidgets()
{
pager.setAdapter(new MyPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager()));
mSlidingTabLayout.setViewPager(pager);
}
private class MyPagerAdapter extends FragmentStatePagerAdapter {
int mNumOfTabs;
public MyPagerAdapter(FragmentManager fm) {
super(fm);
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return mPagerItem[position];
}
public Fragment getItem(int pos) {
switch(pos) {
case 0:
JobCalender JobCalender_fragment=new JobCalender();
return JobCalender_fragment;
case 1:
NC_Fragments mNC_Fragments=new NC_Fragments();
return mNC_Fragments;
default:
JobCalender JobCalender_fragment=new JobCalender();
return JobCalender_fragment;
}
}
public int getCount() {
return mPagerItem.length;
}
}
}
5) Add class SlidingTabLayout:
your.package.name ;
import android.content.Context;
import android.graphics.Point;
import android.graphics.Typeface;
import android.os.Build;
import android.support.v4.view.PagerAdapter;
import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager;

In your MainActivity add this line .
SlidingTabs slidingTabs = (SlidingTabs)findViewById(R.id.tabs);
slidingTabs.setDistributeEvenly(true);
in the slidintablayout.java in the method createdefaultimageview() had to add this line..
imageView.setLayoutParams(new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, 1.0f));
I have implemented icons on tab in slidingtablayout but I want to implement both icons and text.
This is my slidintablayout.java file, I have edited it according to show icons on tab.

Since it is Sep 2015, I recommend using TabLayout from android design library. :)
https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/design/widget/TabLayout.html
To have icons and text, You could extend the Tablayout and override the
public void setTabsFromPagerAdapter(#NonNull PagerAdapter adapter) {
this.removeAllTabs();
int i = 0;
for (int count = adapter.getCount(); i < count; ++i) {
this.addTab(this.newTab().setIcon(<YourIconHereForThisTab >).setText(adapter.getPageTitle(i)));
}
}
This would display the icon and text side by side. if you want to have them vertically aligned
Or, require any other customization. You can use setCustomView method on the tab.
https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/design/widget/TabLayout.Tab.html#setCustomView(int)
Like :
public void setTabsFromPagerAdapter(#NonNull PagerAdapter adapter) {
this.removeAllTabs();
int i = 0;
for (int count = adapter.getCount(); i < count; ++i) {
this.addTab(this.newTab().setCustomView(<YourLayoutID>).setIcon(<YourIconHereForThisTab>).setText(adapter.getPageTitle(i)));
}
}

I was trying to modify the SlidingTabLayout from Google IO app so that the active tab is always locked to the middle like in the latest Google Play Newsstand and Foursquare versions. How would I got about implementing it?
I modified the SlidingTabLayout so that the HorizontalScrollView that contains the tabs adjusts its padding based on the ViewPager's scroll offset. It took me 3 days to create an acceptable result and I hope it helps you too! If you have any questions and/or improvements, please comment!

i am using sliding tab from:
https://developer.android.com/samples/SlidingTabsBasic/src/com.example.android.common/view/SlidingTabLayout.html
and BadgeView from:
https://github.com/jgilfelt/android-viewbadger
i just add these lines of code to SlidingTabLayout to access each tab:
public SlidingTabStrip getTabStrip() {
return mTabStrip;
}
so in fragmenta i can use below code to add badgeview to each tab:
public class FragmentA extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View fragmentView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_a,container,false);
Button b1 = (Button) fragmentView.findViewById(R.id.tab1_button_fragmenta);
b1.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
View v = ((MainActivity)getActivity()).mSlidingTabLayout.getTabStrip().getChildAt(0);
BadgeView badge = new BadgeView(getActivity(), v);
badge.setText("1");
badge.show();
}
});
Button b2 = (Button) fragmentView.findViewById(R.id.tab2_button_fragmenta);
b2.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
View v = ((MainActivity)getActivity()).mSlidingTabLayout.getTabStrip().getChildAt(1);
BadgeView badge = new BadgeView(getActivity(), v);
badge.setText("2");
badge.show();
}
});
Button b3 = (Button) fragmentView.findViewById(R.id.tab3_button_fragmenta);
b3.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
View v = ((MainActivity)getActivity()).mSlidingTabLayout.getTabStrip().getChildAt(2);
BadgeView badge = new BadgeView(getActivity(), v);
badge.setText("3");
badge.show();
}
});
return fragmentView;
}
and the fragment layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#FFCC00" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_margin="16dp"
android:text="This is Fragment A"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/tab1_button_fragmenta"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/textView"
android:text="Add Badge To Tab 1" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/tab2_button_fragmenta"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/tab1_button_fragmenta"
android:text="Add Badge To Tab 2" />

android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/tab2_button_fragmenta"
android:text="Add Badge To Tab 3" />
</RelativeLayout>
the result is:
but after i add BadgeView the functionality of clicking on tabs is gone. so i can not click on tabs to navigate to other pages. can anyone help me what to do?

3) FragmentA button click listener code :
Button b1 = (Button) fragmentView
.findViewById(R.id.tab1_button_fragmenta);
b1.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
badge = new BadgeView(getActivity(),
((DemoActivity) getActivity()).mSlidingTabLayout
.getTabStrip(), 0);
badge.setText("1");
badge.toggle();
}
});
Button b2 = (Button) fragmentView
.findViewById(R.id.tab1_button_fragmentb);
b2.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
BadgeView badge = new BadgeView(getActivity(),
((DemoActivity) getActivity()).mSlidingTabLayout
.getTabStrip(), 1);
badge.setText("2");
badge.toggle();
}
});
And You are Done. :)
Now Reasoning:
The problem is that ViewBadger Removes the original View and adds Framelayout and that removed view after dynamically adding a textView. is That matters?
Yes: because You are using SlidingTabLayout. In which onTabClickListener Class is used, which checks that if a view is of type TextView. See this code below, Before adding the badview it will always show the textview, but after that it will show framelayout for badgedview.
private class TabClickListener implements View.OnClickListener {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Log.e("tab click listener", "" + v + " : unmatched");
for (int i = 0; i < mTabStrip.getChildCount(); i++) {
View vv = mTabStrip.getChildAt(i);
// I have added these lines for debugging
if (vv instanceof FrameLayout) {
Log.e("frameLayout", "framelayout");
}
else if (vv instanceof TextView) {
Log.e("textview", "textview");
}
// Original Code
if (v == mTabStrip.getChildAt(i)) {
mViewPager.setCurrentItem(i);
Log.e("tab click listener", "" + v + " : matched pos : "
+ i);
return;
}
}
}
}
So I replaced that clickListener Class and Used this code :
final int index_i = i;
tabView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
mViewPager.setCurrentItem(index_i);
}
});
which does not see that whether it is textView of FrameLayout or whatever, just load the item at ith Index. :)
