As a newbie I am trying to use icons instead of text view in sliding tabs. The problem is, when I change tabs one of my fragments (MapFragment) crashes application. I know that I can create onDestroy method and every time remove fragments but this causes strange behaviour of this fragment. It's weird, because when I use text view instead of icons application works very well.
I think the problem is in SlidingTabLayout, every help and feedback will be appreciated.

You should use a MapView instead of SupportMapFragment.
it`s a good example from google

I have read and tried a lot of works on the way to set the view pager to obtain a dynamic height buh to no avail. After setting the below, the screen was divided half and the list of data was scrolling from the middle of the screen.

}
}
}
And i tried something too. Because i want to have:
3 Tabs
2 Fragments
Tab in the middle should be without fragment
I edited this method here (MainActivity):
// adding fragments
public List<Fragment> getFragments() {
List<Fragment> addFragment = new ArrayList<Fragment>();
addFragment.add(ExampleFragment.newInstance());
delete middle fragment
//addFragment.add(ExampleFragment.newInstance());
addFragment.add(ExampleFragment.newInstance());
return addFragment;
}
I deleted one Fragment.
Which means i accomplished the goal to have 2 Fragments.
2 Fragments check
Because i only have as much tabs as fragments, that would mean that i'd only have 2 Tabs too.
So i went to the SlidingTabLayout and changed this method:
I changed the for loop to this |i < 3| instead of |i < adapter.getCount();|
private void populateTabStrip() {
final PagerAdapter adapter = mViewPager.getAdapter();
final View.OnClickListener tabClickListener = new TabClickListener();
// 3 instead of adapter.getCount(); | For 3 tabs
for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
View tabView = null;
TextView tabTitleView = null;
if (mTabViewLayoutId != 0) {
// If there is a custom tab view layout id set, try and inflate it
tabView = LayoutInflater.from(getContext()).inflate(mTabViewLayoutId, mTabStrip,
false);
tabTitleView = (TextView) tabView.findViewById(mTabViewTextViewId);
}
if (tabView == null) {
tabView = createDefaultTabView(getContext());
}
if (tabTitleView == null && TextView.class.isInstance(tabView)) {
tabTitleView = (TextView) tabView;
}
if (mDistributeEvenly) {
LinearLayout.LayoutParams lp = (LinearLayout.LayoutParams) tabView.getLayoutParams();
lp.width = 0;
lp.weight = 1;
}
tabTitleView.setText(adapter.getPageTitle(i));
tabView.setOnClickListener(tabClickListener);
String desc = mContentDescriptions.get(i, null);
if (desc != null) {
tabView.setContentDescription(desc);
}
mTabStrip.addView(tabView);
if (i == mViewPager.getCurrentItem()) {
tabView.setSelected(true);
}
}
}
And Now:
3 Tabs check
and
2 SlidingTablayout check
but not
Tab in the middle should be without fragment
I had 3 Fragments and 3 Tabs i deleted one Fragment and this caused that the last fragment moved one position up. Now the right fragment is in the position of the middle fragment. Now when i click on the middle tab i get the fragment which was on the right tab.
In this case my question is how to get the fragment which moved now in the position of the middle tab back to the right tab.
Hope you understand what i want. Sorry for my bad english :).
Firstly, You NEED those fragments to Navigate between 3 tabs. So my solution is, since you need to launch an activity from 2nd Tab, Use 3 fragment. Yes 3 fragments, so use this code in the onResume() method of the Middle fragment:
Intent intent = new Intent(getActivity(), YOUR_ACTIVITY_NAME.class);
startActivity(intent);
This should take you to a new activity.
Secondly, launching Activity for the 2nd Tab is a very bad design of your Application. I recommend not following this design if you are planning to release this application in the Play store. Use Navigation Drawer instead.
Create two fragment and one activity
Add activity to the tab as below
TabHost tabHost = getTabHost();
TabHost.TabSpec spec;
Intent intent;
intent = new Intent().setClass(this, SecondActivity.class);
spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("Second").setIndicator("Second")
.setContent(intent);
tabHost.addTab(spec);
Follow the link below to add activity to tabs.
http://www.technotalkative.com/android-tab-bar-example-1/
I have created an application where I have 3 tabs and in the last one I have added a map, and here is the error because I get an error navigating with the tabs.
Take a look below the code
Tab fragment:
public class Tab3 extends Fragment {
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, #Nullable ViewGroup container, #Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
View v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.tab_3, container, false);
return v;
}
}
xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />

Whats your logcat throws
android.view.InflateException: Binary XML file line #12: Error inflating class fragment
My advice , use SupportMapFragment instead of MapFragment .
Call class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"
<fragment
android:id="#+id/map"
class="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
Call
GoogleMap map = ((SupportMapFragment) getFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map))
.getMap();
Edit
<fragment
android:id="#+id/map"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:name="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"/>
Call
SupportMapFragment mapFragment = ((SupportMapFragment) getChildFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.map));
GoogleMap mapLocation = mapFragment.getMap();
I am having trouble switching SlidingTabStrip tabs programatically.
I am using SlidingTabStrip in combination with viewpager.
I use
mSlidingTabs.setViewPager(mPager);
mViewPager.setCurrentItem(position);
This moves the viewpager to the selected screen and the corresponding tab is selected.
But if the corresponding tab is not in the view bounds of the screen..
it is not being scrolled into view

I kinda found a workaround This is not a legible solution
but what I do is call
ViewTreeObserver vto = mainContainer.getViewTreeObserver();
vto.addOnGlobalLayoutListener(new ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener() {
#Override
public void onGlobalLayout() {
try {
mSlidingTabs.scrollToTab(tabPosition,0);
} catch (NullPointerException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
});
A better solution is welcome.
I've integrated PagerSlidingTabStrips with Icons only. But I selector on icons are not working with PagerSlidingTabStrips.
xml
<PagerSlidingTabStrip
android:id="#+id/pager_sliding_tab_strip"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="45dip"
android:background="#color/white"
app:pstsDividerColor="#FFFFA500"
app:pstsIndicatorColor="#FFFFA500"
app:pstsTabPaddingLeftRight="14dip"
app:pstsUnderlineColor="#FFFFA500" />
Added implements IconTabProvider on my ViewPager which works perfectly.
public class ViewPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter implements IconTabProvider {
final int PAGE_COUNT = 3;
private final int[] ICONS = { R.drawable.tab_icon_zname_contacts_selector, R.drawable.tab_icon_zname_friends_selector,
R.drawable.tab_icon_zname_call_log_selector };
#Override
public int getPageIconResId(int position) {
return ICONS[position];
}
}
iconSelector
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:drawable="#drawable/tab_icon_zname_call_log_selected" android:state_selected="true"/>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/tab_icon_zname_call_log" android:state_selected="false"/>
</selector>
How to make icon selector work with PagerSlidingTabStrips? I wanted icon with Orange color when that tab is selected but it's returning grey one only no matter what.
I've found fix for Icon_Selector for PagerSlidingTabStrips within it's closed issues.
Modify PagerSlidingTabStrips.java and add following code
private int currentPageSelected = 0; //Fix : ICON SELECTOR
Append on NotifyDataSetChanged method inside OnGlobalLayoutListener
currentPosition = pager.getCurrentItem();
tabsContainer.getChildAt(currentPosition).setSelected(true); //ADDED THESE
scrollToChild(currentPosition, 0);
Modified the onPageSelected():
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
tabsContainer.getChildAt(currentPageSelected).setSelected(false);
currentPageSelected = position;
tabsContainer.getChildAt(position).setSelected(true);
if (delegatePageListener != null) {
delegatePageListener.onPageSelected(position
}
}
IconSelector
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:drawable="#drawable/tab_icon_zname_call_log_selected" android:state_selected="true"/>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/tab_icon_zname_call_log_selected" android:state_pressed="true"/>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/tab_icon_zname_call_log"/>
</selector>
