I'm encountering problem with Android studio formatting and the use case is:
Using Android studio 1.5.1 with my custom code style defined. Right click on a package and "Reformat code...", Check only on "Include subdirectories" and click Run. It gives me one-line changes in three classes. After that, if I repeat the same procedure, I get more changes in these three classes. After that, if I repeat the same procedure, I get even more formatting changes (using Github for Windows to see the changes).
How is that possible? Is someone experiencing the same problem?

The app is created successfully.
Right click on References, and choose "Add Reference". The following dialog box pops up:
Note that when you look at the Project Properties, there are two "Application" tabs. The second one generates an error:
Once the project has been unloaded, it can no longer be reloaded. The resulting error message is:
I have reported this on the Xamarin Forums, but the process is slow. I'd like to find a workaround, but I'm fumbling in the dark. Once I've unloaded the fsproj file, I can't find any mention of "frameworkName", and I can't reload it either.
My Android settings appear to all be up to date:
Does anyone know of any workarounds that will allow me to start unit testing my existing app?
I believe I have a fix for this issue :)
Xamarin expects F# 3.x to be present, which at this point must be manually added. You should be able to download F# 3.x here
Please let me know if this fixes the issue for you.
Thanks!
Edit: I have filed the following bug as well: https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=42970
I started off with a black activity and whenever I try using Android studio, I get stuck in this screen. I cant drag any widgets, enter any text, or make any changes to the user interface. Is there anything I am missing? I downloaded all the Android Studio bundle and I have all the required SDK tools. I have attached a screenshot of what I am currently stuck with.
A screenshot of what I am seeing:
Recently I encountered the same problem myself. After some research I found that you must now use the "content_activityname.xml" file in order to edit the ui of an activity.
In your case this file is located in the layout folder, right under your activity_main.xml in the picture provided.
According to this thread: What is the role of content_main.xml in android studio 1.4? the main.xml now contains the global look of the ui, and also contains the content.xml file which again contains the components of the ui.
You should think of uninstall and reinstall Android Studio and after that creating a new Project. You also are able to look at some tutorials created by the creators of AS. They can be found at Android Developers.
I often modify spaces, statement alignments and tabulations manually instead of using CTRL+ALT+L for formating my code. Then, it takes a long time to launch my app because Android Studio creating a new build even if the code itself is the same.
Is there a way to change this setting ?
Android Studio compiles any file when it changes. Even if the change is just in formatting, it will be recompiled. I suggest that you make sure the formatting is the way you want it when you write the code to begin with. Android Studio is very good at helping you with this by automatically indenting when it deems it appropriate. Don't fight against Android Studio's default behaviors -- or else configure Android Studio to the formatting settings you wish to use.
OK, I have been wanting to try the new ActionBarCompat, however, I am not able to run my programs in the emulator.
I have been trying to implement the following: http://antonioleiva.com/actionbarcompat-how-to-use.
and have been stuck on basically the first part. However, working with the author of that content, I was able to get further as I was not adding the project under sdk\extras\android\support\v7\appcompat folder like stated. However, I still think that might be the reason I cannot do this...
More detail can be found here: http://antonioleiva.com/actionbarcompat-how-to-use/#comment-43
Basically, on my first attempt, I just created an Android project, and changed the source code as indicated. Code would not run on the emulator. So I went back to the original code, and that ran on the emulator.
Checked online, found out I might need to add the \extras\android\support\v7\appcompat folder as a library to the project I am building. So I added that and a new android project was created. There were build errors from the start, but I failed at trying to add it as a library to my project, and deleted it....thinking this was way overboard.
After back and forth chats with author of linked website, I found out I had to do that overboard thing.
So I tried the following link to the T: (I cannot post more than 2 links due to low repuation...I will add this link as a comment below)
However, Eclipse would not allow me to add the appcompat Existing Android Project...but it did allow me to add the appcompat Existing (General) Project. I think this may be some of the problems??
Right now, I cannot run the project at all. Eclipse is showing a red exclamation mark on the project folder, but all the code seems to be fine. So I don't know what to do now...I recreated this project several times over, and this one was the one where I knew what to do...and I am still getting problems
So...
I decided to move to Android Studio...updated the IDE, updated the SDK manager to include the new support library, and other things. Created a new project, added to the build.gradle file as shown in the link provided below in the comment. I ran the ant build, and then built the project...tried to import the right things to allow ActionBarActivity, but I could not get that far.
I can import
"android.support.v7.*"
"android.support.vy.R" // and all folders within
but nothing allows me to add ActionBarActivity, and I don't know why.
FYI, I guess I would prefer a solution to Ecplise, as it seems like I actually got somewhere with it.
The best example to use is from here, and I would follow it closely. I had similiar issues when I first came across this. Problem was I misunderstood what I needed to do
http://developer.android.com/tools/support-library/setup.html#libs-with-res
My situation is: I once made an android project(2.2 version) but soon needed to format my computer. After formatting, I downloaded eclipse again but when I imported my project, I wasn't able to use the 'graphical layout' menu for xml. It doesn't show me anything like the picture below.
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3586/19978552.png
I cleaned the project and updated the Android SDK, however, none of these seemed to work well. What could be causing this?
Try restarting Eclipse. Usually that solves the problem for me when that happens.
Right click on your layout xml file and select Open With -> Android Layout Editor. It will force eclipse to open file in android's layout editor mode
None of above worked for me. what worked for me is:
1- Select a Google APIs Project Build Target rather than one of the Android X.X ones. This setting is in right click on project -> Properties->Android.
2- Make a change in XML and save it. Now switch back to "Graphical Layout" and it will show the layout.
For some, only 2nd step works.
This Question was asked 3 year ago, I am sure that you have get your solution, however i was also facing the same problem but got the solution in eclipse, here it is:-
1)Goto help->AboutEclipse->Installation details.
2)check the version of Android DDMS, Android development tool, Android hierarchy viewer, Android native development tool, Android trace view and tracer for openGl ES in installed software tab.
3)If they have different version than you have to update all of them.
4)Goto help->check for update in eclipse and follow the instruction.
5)Then restart eclipse.
This solve my problem.
The topic seems a little bit cold, but I wanted to add it nonetheless.
I had a similar problem with my layouts recently. When i create a project it automatically creates the layouts in the latest version of Android (eclipse shows it as version 22 of android as of today). But i can't see anything. So i just change the version to, say 18, and it shows ok. Furthermore if i want to change it back to version 22 it throws and exception, saying that a class can't be instantiated. (I am probably missing a class or a library on my system.)
Therefore if you cant see the layout it might be a good idea to switch back to earlier versions for development. cheers.
