Creating a Xamarin Android F# project - android

Visual Studio 2015, Update 3.
Create a blank solution. Choose Add New Project -> Visual F# -> Android.
Create either a Blank App (Android) or a Unit Test App (Android).
The app is created successfully.
Right click on References, and choose "Add Reference". The following dialog box pops up:
Note that when you look at the Project Properties, there are two "Application" tabs. The second one generates an error:
Once the project has been unloaded, it can no longer be reloaded. The resulting error message is:
I have reported this on the Xamarin Forums, but the process is slow. I'd like to find a workaround, but I'm fumbling in the dark. Once I've unloaded the fsproj file, I can't find any mention of "frameworkName", and I can't reload it either.
My Android settings appear to all be up to date:
Does anyone know of any workarounds that will allow me to start unit testing my existing app?

I believe I have a fix for this issue :)
Xamarin expects F# 3.x to be present, which at this point must be manually added. You should be able to download F# 3.x here

Error in installing package for Microsoft.Azure.NotificationHubs in xamarin forms

I am quite new to azure hubs. But spent three days to understand the flow(to use in xamarin forms).
Currently tying to link with android only(through xamarin forms). So when I thought everything needed is ready(GCM key and azure access policies) from my side, I started coding using vs2015.
First thing I did was creating "Blank portable cross platform" project.
Then,tried to install Microsoft.Azure.NotificationHubs package. PFA
But I am getting following errors( related to Profile259).
I spent whole day to understand what error is saying and I understood that package is expecting different target framework than what I am referring.
So I tried changed to other versions and through some blogs I found that maybe this Profile259 directory is missing.But it's all there.
Package is expecting .Net Framework 4.5 Full Profile. I cross checked it by following the link
I updated my azure version.Nuget package is also latest.
So what could possibly go wrong.
Please guide me in right way to get push notifications in devices.

I had to add it as a component. Go to the Components under the Android and iOS project, select edit components off the context menu, and add the "Azure Messaging by Xaramin" component. You'll probably have to download it by clicking "Get More Components".
If you're working on Android only for now, try removing all other targets from screenshot #2. There's a chance the error message is caused by one (or all) of the Windows targets.

problems in the helloworld app in Eclipse

I am new in developing apps for Android with Java Eclipse.
I get a simple problem: after following the procedure explained here:

I tried to push the "Finish" button to create my first app, but it doesn't work: the wizard remains open and nothing happens.
Also, I have several problems in the Demo apps, errors like:
'<>' source operator is not allowed for source level
and many more.
I guess I created problems with the configurations.

It is really had to tell what is the problem, but as Abdullah advised to use android studio because it is well designed to develop android applications. and most of the company's now days use android studio as there IDE preference, but still its developer's choice. Eclipse ADT plugin is buggy

Trouble with Visual Studio 2015 and Xamarin (Android Development)

I need some help with the designer of the visual studio/xamarin on the android.
I'm kinda noob with development, but I was hoping to do some examples, but the designer isn't showing up...
The tutorial videos, from the Xamarin itself, only says it need to create a new project and play with the designer, but when I do that, the designer is empty and I can't do nothing...
Here some pictures from what I have and from what I see on videos:
There's a couple things I'm thinking here. It's quite possible that your installation of Xamarin didn't go according to plan. Check your detailed Visual Studio version information in "Help -> About -> Copy Detailed Info".
Additionally, you might also be running on an outdated version of the Android SDK or there might be an issue with your Java config. Ensure you've got the Android SDK installed and updated and that you're using a current version of the Java SDK.
I also see there's a white box showing up on your Designer screen. Does that ever populate with an error? Usually, that will show some info on what exactly is going wrong.
Lastly, you can also check your logs in the following directory for more hints as to what's going on:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Xamarin\Log

Using Project Tango Unity example projects

I have tried to use the Project Tango unity examples found here; https://github.com/googlesamples/tango-examples-unity with no success.
I have never used Unity before, and have successfully completed the Codelab: Motion Tracking example fromt he developer resources: https://developers.google.com/project-tango/apis/unity/unity-codelab-motion-tracking.
I downloaded the example files mentioned at the top, open one of the projects (tried several, all have the same problem). Once the project is open, I open the scene that come with it, I go to Build Settings, change platform to Android, change the Bundle Identifier and set the Minimum API Level to Jelly Bean 17 and finally click "Build and Run".
Now it starts to build the project, everything goes fine and the Unity logo shows up on the Tango. And that's it, the Unity logo shows up, no error messages on the computer, but nothing more happens. The program stalls at the Unity logo.
Am I missing some crucial step to get the example projects to actually run?

The example code is Unity 5 based project, so please use the 5.x version of Unity to open it. If you use Unity 4.x version, the scene won't be opened up properly.
However, the code lab is based on Unity 4.6 and it is independent from our sample code. I understand this is a little bit confusing now, we are working on make sure the version are unified.
In short, I would suggest you open our example code with Unity 5.x version. You will be able to run it without a problem.
It was blank empty scene build. thats why after the unity logo it didn't load any scene or do anything.
You need to go to Unity Build Setting and drag and drop all the scenes from the examples folder in it.
Once you have all the scenes. Make sure that AreaDescriptionManagement is on the top of the list.
That is the only step missing from you.
Now, build and run. Everything should be fine.

Android: Graphical Layout not working - doesn't show anything

My situation is: I once made an android project(2.2 version) but soon needed to format my computer. After formatting, I downloaded eclipse again but when I imported my project, I wasn't able to use the 'graphical layout' menu for xml. It doesn't show me anything like the picture below.

I cleaned the project and updated the Android SDK, however, none of these seemed to work well. What could be causing this?
Try restarting Eclipse. Usually that solves the problem for me when that happens.
Right click on your layout xml file and select Open With -> Android Layout Editor. It will force eclipse to open file in android's layout editor mode
None of above worked for me. what worked for me is:
1- Select a Google APIs Project Build Target rather than one of the Android X.X ones. This setting is in right click on project -> Properties->Android.
2- Make a change in XML and save it. Now switch back to "Graphical Layout" and it will show the layout.
For some, only 2nd step works.
This Question was asked 3 year ago, I am sure that you have get your solution, however i was also facing the same problem but got the solution in eclipse, here it is:-
1)Goto help->AboutEclipse->Installation details.
2)check the version of Android DDMS, Android development tool, Android hierarchy viewer, Android native development tool, Android trace view and tracer for openGl ES in installed software tab.
3)If they have different version than you have to update all of them.
4)Goto help->check for update in eclipse and follow the instruction.
5)Then restart eclipse.
This solve my problem.
The topic seems a little bit cold, but I wanted to add it nonetheless.
I had a similar problem with my layouts recently. When i create a project it automatically creates the layouts in the latest version of Android (eclipse shows it as version 22 of android as of today). But i can't see anything. So i just change the version to, say 18, and it shows ok. Furthermore if i want to change it back to version 22 it throws and exception, saying that a class can't be instantiated. (I am probably missing a class or a library on my system.)
Therefore if you cant see the layout it might be a good idea to switch back to earlier versions for development. cheers.
