Cursor returns null when getting filepath from URI

Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
String[] filePathColumn = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
// Get the cursor
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(selectedImage,
filePathColumn, null, null, null);
// Move to first row
cursor.moveToFirst();
int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]);
imgDecodableString = cursor.getString(columnIndex);
cursor.close();
cursor.getString(columnIndex) Returns Null
Where as the selectedImage is not null.
Any suggestion on how I can create file from URI?

A Uri is not a file. A Uri does not have to point to a file, let alone a file on the filesystem that you can access.
Any suggestion on how I can create file from URI?
Use ContentResolver and openInputStream() to get an InputStream on the content identified the Uri. Ideally, just use that InputStream directly. If, for some reason, you truly need a file:
Create a FileOutputStream on some file that you control (e.g., in getCacheDir())
Copy the bytes from the InputStream to the FileOutputStream
Use the file that you just created, deleting it when you are done

Use this method to get path:

Cannot remove an image inserted with MediaStore

I'm saving an image loaded with Picasso to be shared afterwards. This is the code I'm using to save it:
String path = MediaStore.Images.Media.insertImage(
mContext.getContentResolver(), mImageBitmap, "Shared image", null);
return Uri.parse(path);
Now, when the image has been shared, I have to delete it using the URI. I've tried some answers I've seen here but none of them has worked. The image still appears in the gallery. These are the methods I have used:

In your case replace TEMP_FILE_TITLE = "Shared image"

How to get file path from uri?

I am trying to retrieve file path from URI. But my cursor is returning null.
Two problems:
Uri may be audio/ video. So how can I retrieve file path.
Why cursor is returning null?
Here is my code

Image path from URI

I am trying to get an Image file from the gallery:
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setType("image/*");
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(intent, "Select Picture"),
GET_IMAGE_FROM_GALLERY);
The message "Selecture Picture" is not shown as a Toast.
And in onActivityResult();

Looks like this is a problem with Android 4.4, I have see other apps failing too.
