I'm using TabLayout & ViewPager.
I am trying to change the size of the Tab, like Whatsapp (camera icon).
The size of the three Tabs is equal, but the Tab of the camera is smaller.
In every attempt I make the size of the Tabs remains the same (equal across all tabs).

You need to lower the weight of the LinearLayout of the corresponding tab.

#digger's answer is working. However, if you want the tab which has an icon only wraps its content, you can set weight to 0 and width to LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT. It worked for me.

I add two Checkboxes dynamically to a Linearlayout. Then those Linearlayouts are added one after another in a Relativelayout. The weights of the checkboxes are set so that each take 50% of the Linearlayout width. Now, if their heights do not match, the bottom of the checkbox with bigger height disappears. How to solve this? Here's a screenshot:

Can you make sure that the Linear Layout's height below it is not too large that it covers the above Linear Layout?
Or try changing your Relative Layout Params' height to WRAP_CONTENT

You can do it by setting layout weight property for your individual linear layouts, pass it in LinearLayout - LayoutParams constructor:

I created a Dialog using LinearLayout and in this Dialog, I have a Button. I want to set its width to 50% of the Dialog's width, but no matter what I do, the button is still filling the entire width. The main problem seems to be that I cannot set the button's weight programmatically. I tried creating a second horizontal LinearLayout that would hold the button with weight set to 0.5f (the parent has a weightSum of 1), but that did not change anything. How can I set the button to be half the width?
I've looked at all the other questions but most of them were using xml so they were not relevant, and the one that solved it programmatically was using hardcoded values in pixels which is obviously an incorrect solution to the problem.

Are you setting the width value to 0dp as well? This is required for the layout engine to automatically to use layout weight respectively.
