Get file path with FileProvider - android

I'm developing an app and one of the features is for the user to be able to backup their SQLite Database. The data is mainly text and images. I create a zip file with the .json and image files.
I'm using this helper class that i found online for working with Storage
public class FileUtils {
public static String getPath(Context context, Uri uri) {
final boolean isKitKat = Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.KITKAT;
// DocumentProvider
if (isKitKat && DocumentsContract.isDocumentUri(context, uri)) {
// ExternalStorageProvider
if (isExternalStorageDocument(uri)) {
final String docId = DocumentsContract.getDocumentId(uri);
final String[] split = docId.split(":");
final String type = split[0];
if ("primary".equalsIgnoreCase(type)) {
return Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/" + split[1];
}
// TODO handle non-primary volumes
}
// DownloadsProvider
else if (isDownloadsDocument(uri)) {
final String id = DocumentsContract.getDocumentId(uri);
final Uri contentUri = ContentUris.withAppendedId(Uri.parse("content://downloads/public_downloads"), Long.valueOf(id));
return getDataColumn(context, contentUri, null, null);
}
// MediaProvider
else
if (isMediaDocument(uri)) {
final String docId = DocumentsContract.getDocumentId(uri);
final String[] split = docId.split(":");
final String type = split[0];
Uri contentUri = null;
if ("image".equals(type)) {
contentUri = MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
} else if ("video".equals(type)) {
contentUri = MediaStore.Video.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
} else if ("audio".equals(type)) {
contentUri = MediaStore.Audio.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
}
final String selection = "_id=?";
final String[] selectionArgs = new String[] {split[1]};
return getDataColumn(context, contentUri, selection, selectionArgs);
}
}
// MediaStore (and general)
else if ("content".equalsIgnoreCase(uri.getScheme())) {
// Return the remote address
if (isGooglePhotosUri(uri)) {
return uri.getLastPathSegment();
}
return getDataColumn(context, uri, null, null);
}
// File
else if ("file".equalsIgnoreCase(uri.getScheme())) {
return uri.getPath();
}
return null;
}
private static String getDataColumn(Context context, Uri uri, String selection, String[] selectionArgs) {
Cursor cursor = null;
final String column = "_data";
final String[] projection = { column };
try {
cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(uri, projection, selection, selectionArgs, null);
if (cursor != null && cursor.moveToFirst()) {
final int index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(column);
return cursor.getString(index);
}
} finally {
if (cursor != null)
cursor.close();
}
return null;
}
private static boolean isExternalStorageDocument(Uri uri) {
return "com.android.externalstorage.documents".equals(uri.getAuthority());
}
/**
* #param uri The Uri to check.
* #return Whether the Uri authority is DownloadsProvider.
*/
private static boolean isDownloadsDocument(Uri uri) {
return "com.android.providers.downloads.documents".equals(uri.getAuthority());
}
/**
* #param uri The Uri to check.
* #return Whether the Uri authority is MediaProvider.
*/
private static boolean isMediaDocument(Uri uri) {
return "com.android.providers.media.documents".equals(uri.getAuthority());
}
/**
* #param uri The Uri to check.
* #return Whether the Uri authority is Google Photos.
*/
private static boolean isGooglePhotosUri(Uri uri) {
return "com.google.android.apps.photos.content".equals(uri.getAuthority());
}
}
I successfully restore all the data/files from the .zip file but when i use the FileUtils.getPath() function on the restored image Uri i get
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: column '_data' does not exist
I assume this is because the Uri of the restored images is content://com.appLab.AnglersDiary.provider/external_files/NEW%20EXTRACT/catchImgBackup_0_19f3eb40-8f3a-4140-b68b-745b8c820dd4.jpg
What is a solution for handling that type of Uri in my app?

How To Import and Read a Random SQLITE Database File (.db) from android device programatically?

I want to read random Sqlite database files from storage of Android devices just like SqlitePrime app is doing - i just want to fetch the records of the database file ,fetched from device storage
Found a work around for the problem:
After browsing the File on the device, do
Uri selectedFileUri = data.getData();
try {
String filePath=PathUtil.getPath(this,selectedFileUri);
SQLiteDatabase database = SQLiteDatabase.openOrCreateDatabase(filePath, null);
Cursor cursor = database.rawQuery("select * from " + "Table", null);
ArrayList<String[]> result = new ArrayList<String[]>();
int i = 0;
result.add(cursor.getColumnNames());

I am getting null when trying to select video from Google Photos

I am getting null when trying to select video from Google Photos.
It works if the video is also stored in your external memory but its not working,
if its only available on google photos. I tried many solutions but don't know how to accomplish this. Below is the class that i use to get the URI.
public class FilePath {
private static final DecimalFormat format = new DecimalFormat("#.##");
private static final long MiB = 1024 * 1024;

You have no permission to read the media from which Google Photo sends you a file I suppose. You have to use getContentResolver().openInputStream(uri) to open as an InputStream and show in your activity a photo which Google Photo sends you. Your code is unacceptable. Try to search SO for this topic. It was discussed a lot of times.
Intent intent = getIntent();
if (Intent.ACTION_SEND.equals(intent.getAction()){
uri = intent.getParcelableExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM);
if (uri != null) {
InputStream is = getContentResolver().openInputStream(uri);
long fileSize = is.available()
//Do some suff to show stream as a picture in the Activity
}
}
This code works for me with last Google Photos app on Android 7.0 when picture is stored on the internal phone memory. If Google Photos keeps a desired file somewhere on a cloud you have to load data from is in the background thread to avoid Networking on main thread exception.

Getting null value while upload pdf file from device memory

In my application i want to upload pdf file from device. So for that i have followed bellow link
[Android: Browse and upload a PDF or word file in application from the device
By using this code, after select pdf file getting null value. This getFileNameByUri method return null vlaue. I dont know, what is the issue hare. So please suggest me.
Thanks In Advance...
This the code i am using...
private void getDocument()
{
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.setType("application/pdf");
intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);
// Only the system receives the ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT, so no need to test.
startActivityForResult(intent, 1);
}
And this is the onactivity result
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int req, int result, Intent data)
{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onActivityResult(req, result, data);
if (result == RESULT_OK)
{
Uri fileuri = data.getData();
docFilePath = getFileNameByUri(this, fileuri);
}
}
And this is the method for file path..
private String getFileNameByUri(Context context, Uri uri)
{
String filepath = "";//default fileName
//Uri filePathUri = uri;
File file;
if (uri.getScheme().toString().compareTo("content") == 0)
{
Cursor cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(uri, new String[] { android.provider.MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.DATA, MediaStore.Images.Media.ORIENTATION }, null, null, null);
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
String mImagePath = cursor.getString(column_index);
cursor.close();
filepath = mImagePath;
}
else
if (uri.getScheme().compareTo("file") == 0)
{
try
{
file = new File(new URI(uri.toString()));
if (file.exists())
filepath = file.getAbsolutePath();
}
catch (URISyntaxException e)
{
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
else
{
filepath = uri.getPath();
}
return filepath;
}
here this method getFileNameByUri returns null value..
This will get the file path from the MediaProvider, DownloadsProvider, and ExternalStorageProvider, while falling back to the unofficial ContentProvider method you mention.

How to convert From string to image file

I am developing a simple android photo uploader. I have a Gallery activity, there I can select the pictures. After that I am sending the image names with path because i need to show them.
How can I make files out of these names and point to the actual image for the upload?
String[] picturesWithPath = new String[arrPath.size()];
for (int z = 0; z < arrPath.size(); z++)
{
picturesWithPath[z] = arrPath.get(z);
Log.i("data","with path: "+picturesWithPath[z]);
}
Use bellow code for get file URL.
//use this in yorr for loop
picturesWithPath[z] = getPath(Yourclass.this, arrPath.get(z));

Android image picker to pick image from specified folder path

I'm saving my images to a folder in sdcard, now in my android app, I want to create image picker that opens this specific folder and allow picking images.
Tried many SO solutions but none worked for me!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Try the following code :
private void loadImageFromMyFolder() {
asyncBar.setVisibility(View.GONE);
File yourDir = new File("/rootPath/myImage/");
yourDir.mkdir();
ArrayList<GalleryHelper> dataT = null;
dataT = new ArrayList<GalleryHelper>();
videoLoder.cancel(true);
asyncBar.setVisibility(View.GONE);
for (File f : yourDir.listFiles()) {
if (f.isFile()) {
imageLoader.displayImage("/rootPath/myImage/" + f.getName(), imgSinglePick);
GalleryHelper item = new GalleryHelper();
item.sdcardPath = "/rootPath/myImage/" + f.getName();
dataT.add(item);
}
}
imgAdapter.addAll(dataT);
}
public class GalleryHelper {
public String sdcardPath;
public File file;
public boolean isSeleted = false;
}
You can get image just create a class code is given below and use it in your project:-
public class ImagePath {
Context context;
public ImagePath(Context context) {
this.context = context;
}
public static String getPath(final Context context, final Uri uri) {

It is easy but may be lengthy since you want to create your own picker.
Steps:
1. get file path of your required directory
val folderPath = "${Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()}/yourDirectoryName"
list all files under that directory
var arrayList: ArrayList<File> = arrayListOf()
if(folderPath.exists()){
var files=folderPath.listFiles();
if(files.length!=0){
for(int i=0;i<files.length;i++)
{
var file=files[i];
arrayList.add(file);
}
}
}
you have all the files of particular folder in arrayList. Now using recyclerView and adapter you can make your picker.
Note: if your are not sure that your folder may contain other files which you don't want to pick then..exclude them using
if(file.extension=="jpeg" || file.extension=="jpg"){
arrayList.add(file)
}
