I add drawable as background in my toolbar, but the image stretched it to its own height.
Possible solution is restrict toolbar to 56dp or something, but I don't want this, as it also will be used for extended toolbar with tabs.
I want gradient similar behaviour for it, "dynamic height"

You can set your image as textview background. Use android:background="#drawable/toolbartitle". and setTitle("") in your code.

I'm trying to pin my toolbar at the top just like a normal 'Action Bar' just like when u click on a twitter post the toolbar up top stays there no matter how much u scroll down.
I found a lot of guides on "how to make the Toolbar collapse and other cool effects" but what i want from it, is to act as an Action bar and stay at the top, is there a simple way of accomplishing that ? without the use of (CoordinatorLayout, CollapsingToolbarLayout, ...) ?
Yes you can pin your toolbar at the top of the activity for that you have to create a layout file named toolbar_layoutlike this

Most of the times we want the toolbar to be translucent because we want to show content behind it. The problem is that the colors of the content behind the toolbar can collide with the color of the toolbar elements/text (up/back arrow for example).
For that reason you'll see in a lot of implementations that the toolbar is actually not transparent but translucent with a gradient.

You can play with different values on the gradient, what I've found is that for white elements, the black 40% works fine.
Another thing that you might want to do is to hide the title of the toolbar.
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
And show the up affordance...
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(false);
Right now, I have a normal looking Toolbar. What I want to do is add a custom layout between the Toolbar and the TabLayout, as shown in the picture below:

AppBarLayout extends LinearLayout, so you can add any number of views to your AppBarLayout: there's no reason to add the views specifically to your Toolbar.
You'll want to make sure you use the same layout_scrollFlags as your Toolbar if you want them to scroll the same.
Toolbar is just a ViewGroup, you can customize is as much as you want.

This should bring your imageView in center of toolbar.
I'm trying to utilize the CoordinatorLayout, AppBarLayout, CollapsingToolbarLayout, Toolbar and a parallax'ed ImageView. It looks like the ripple effect of the toolbar menu items is cropped. The following image displays the ripple effect of the back button in expanded and in partially collapsed mode. In complete collapsed mode the ripple effect is not shown at all. I think this is caused by the parallax'ed ImageView that is positioned there.

The ImageView displays a 9-patch'ed Image. Is there something wrong with the layout or is it a bug/inability in the design support library to draw the ripple ontop of the ImageView?

in the theme/style of your Toolbar.
