I'm trying to create a speed limit guide app (city-wide coverage). I've been researching and I found out that to access speed limit data in Google Maps API, you need to subscribe to a premium plan and access the speed limit data via Roads API. I'm just wondering if there are other ways to do a speed limit app that automatically adjusts depending on where the user is currently? Maybe hard code that if the user is somewhere between these 2 points on the road, its speed limit is etc. or an alternative map, I'm not really sure.
Hoping for your kind response, thanks.

I'm asking this question since my Final Year Project requires calculating distance between two markers. But upon using the Google Directions API key which I've registered and created it, the server returns me this result (Screenshot link below, click to see). It does not create the polyline and does not return the distance between two markers.

If there's no choice but to create a billing account, how much would it costs for a student like me? Is there a student package where they'll provide free access to this API service? Please help, thanks.
This might not be the answer you want to hear but this is the best answer we can provide you.
Google Maps Platform offers a free $200 monthly credit for Maps, Routes, and Places once you enable billing in your project. With the $200 monthly credit, the vast majority of customers find their use cases are completely free. You won't be charged until your usage exceeds $200 in a month.
You can avoid surprises on your bill by doing the following:
Set a budget alert, to track how your spend is growing toward a particular amount. Setting a budget does not cap API usage, it only alerts you when your spend amount gets near the specified amount.
Cap your daily API usage, to manage your cost of use of billable APIs. By setting caps on requests per day, you can limit your spend. Use a simple equation to determine your daily cap depending on how much you want to spend. For example: (Monthly spend / price per each )/30 = requests per day cap (for one API). Note that your implementation may use multiple billable APIs, so adjust your equation as needed. Remember, a $200 USD Google Maps Platform credit is available each month, so be sure to factor that into your calculation.
Here's the pricing for the Directions API.
Hope you find it helpful and good luck on your project.
With the similarities of WAZE App.
I wonder what API i can possibly use to make an mobile application that will dynamically / automatically adjust its route based on traffic level / condition.
If you are using google maps in android you need to call setTrafficEnabled(true) on your googleMaps object.
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/layer-traffic
If you want the raw data it's a little more complicated and almost impractical.
You can get the layer from google maps and parse the server response(but it's really hard).
You could use Google Enterprise (NOT FREE) https://enterprise.google.com/maps/products/mapsapi.html and it will calculate routes with including traffic data.
Or if you want just incidents use bingMaps API https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh441726.aspx
There might be some other solutions, but they are not free, it's a complex service and people work hard for that information, they will charge for it.
I'm developing a map solution for a number of private buildings which does not want their floor plan or any other geographic details about their building being made public by google. I'm currently planning to plot their floor plan by drawing custom polygons on top of google maps. My concern is - Will the data I plot in google maps be sent to google servers or evaluated by them in any way? It is known that google does collect usage data. I'm not sure as to what extent they do that, or what exactly they collect. Can you clarify on this issue? And if an issue persists, can you give me some pointers to avoid this issue? I hope the situation is clear enough.
That kind of data is not (currently) sent to Google's servers. I don't know of any plans for that to happen, but I don't want to say that it will never happen, either.
What is sent to Google's servers: statistics about the usage of features of the API. This is collected so that we can focus on improving the features that are highest value to our developers.

I would like to get the speed limit from different road using Google Map Maker (or another solution) to create an application (with appcelerator to be able to use it on iOS and Android) that warn me when I drive over the speed limit of the actual road (using GPS).
Very Cordially.
To get the speed limit data you can use nokia Here maps or Google.
For nokia Here refer this link and examples here
Google has started providing optional speed limit data.
See Roads Web Service section at following link. https://developers.google.com/maps/licensing
I need to extract traffic data from google maps or yandex map or etc..
I have a map on my Android app, users can select start and finish points for travel.
And then I calculate minimum road distance(not as the crow flies), and an algorithm runs after this process. This algorithm needs real time traffic data.
Another option is assumption in traffic(at rush hours, I can give a rate about traffic). If I couldn't find a workaround, I will use this option.
Is there any available api to figure out this issue..
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
