I am working on an app in which I have implemented the live video broadcasting, and have a feature to place a live comment just like a Facebook live video feature. The problem I am facing is with EditTextView for comments. When Soft Keyboard appears on the screen It pushes the layout to the top.
I have tried to adjustResize, adjsutPan & adjust Nothing properties in Manifest. But these properties doesn't fulfill the UI requirement. What I want is to just move EditTextView to the top of Soft Keyboard and the rest of the layout as it is.
Layout
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Please help me out to solve this issue. Thanks
use android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan|adjustResize" inside your manifest
If android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan|adjustResize didn't help you, I think it's better to use <ScrollView> in your XML file

I am sitting a long time to get my layout working. There should be an EditText on top. A RecyclerView after that. An ImageButton after that. At the bottom of the activity should be a Button. This looks fine. There is a Space between the ImageButton and Button which has height=0dp and weight=1. Rest has height=wrap_content.
When I open up the keyboard, the RecyclerView keeps being full-sized. This doesnt look fine. I want it to make space to let the Buttons fit on the screen. It should be like that
I tried to make the RecyclerView height=0dp too, but then the Space doesnt work as it should. Their height would depend on each other weight. When I remove the Space and try to get the Button to the bottom while Recyclerview has height=0dp, it would fill the entire free space, so the ImageButton would stick to the Button instead of to the end of the list.
If I would put the ImageButton as the last element of the RecyclerView, it wouldnt be always on the screen when the List is too long.
Layout-XML-only solution would be appreciated.
#edit: My layout breaks completely when I add more items. This should be fixed with the same approach.

you can give weight to recyclerview

I'm developing an app and I need to fill the entire screen with a background, this view contains a scrollview. The problem is that the background is not covering the entire screen, it has a white stripe at the bottom, like the image below.
I have already tried many options of scaleType, like fitXY, centerInside, etc. none of them worked out.
My XML is below.

Can anyone help me? Thanks.
I think that you have to give background to ConstraintLayout with width wrap_content. also set your height for both ScrollView and ConstraintLayout wrap_content.
In constraint layout you have to specify constraint. You don't have specified constraint in ImageView
<ImageView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
android:src="#drawable/signup_background" />
Replace it with
<ImageView
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
android:src="#drawable/signup_background"
card_view:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
card_view:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
card_view:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
card_view:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />
Try to use RelativeLayout instead of ConstraintLayout in your xml. Relative Layout is best for overlapping two elements of xml.
I got the answer, what I needed to do was to put a RelativeLayout as parent of the ScrollView, like below.
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fillViewport="true">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/signup_background"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:padding="40dp">
...
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>

When I open my soft keyboard the layout looks likes this
I have added this in my manifest file
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan|stateHidden"
The output is not what I expected it to be. I want the recyclerview to dynamically resize in the center of the screen and the Toolbar and the edittext to stay fully visible.
As you can see the toolbar has been pushed up and is not visible even when scrolled. The edittext is hidden partially by the suggestions given by the keyboard. Some of the posts I saw asked me to add a scrollview which I did and still the same result. How can I solve this problem?
If you want to resize RecyclerView on SoftInput open or close then you can use below single line code
((LinearLayoutManager)myRecyclerView.getLayoutManager()).setStackFromEnd(true);
For more read this post: https://trinitytuts.com/tips/resize-recyclerview-on-android-softinput-keyboard-appear/
Hope this code helps you
The flag adjustPan is wrong. Use the adjustResize instead:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize|stateHidden"
What adjustPan does is equivalent to enlarging a picture more than the screen and then panning - i.e. moving the picture so you see different parts of it. (like a map in google map for instance).
This is my layout:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<include layout="#layout/include_toolbar_actionbar"/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/background"
android:paddingTop="#dimen/keyline_5"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/keyline_2"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/keyline_2"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/title"
style="#style/FlatCardTitle"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="TITLE" />
<EditText
android:id="#+id/content"
android:inputType="textMultiLine"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="#dimen/keyline_1"
android:layout_marginBottom="#dimen/keyline_4"
android:lines="16"
android:minLines="4"
android:maxLines="16"
android:scrollbars="vertical"/>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
<include layout="#layout/include_visibility_right_editor" />
</RelativeLayout>
The layout "include_visibility_right_editor" must be always at the bottom. Unfortunately, when the soft keyboard appears, all the layout is pushing up...
Thank for your help guys!
Use the following property in manifest activity declaration:
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustNothing"
Also check other options according to your requirement
After many hours I can't fix button on the bottom of activity. Either is invisible or at the top. I tried also without relative layout, I tried adding another linear layout, but I still don't know how set this button.

First, you have a warning in Legacy Android Layout Editor, that either RelativeLayout or LinearLayout is useless. That should be a hint for you. Pay attention to warnings, they're helpful in most of the times.
Indeed, you can get rid of LinearLayout.
So, the solution is:
Remove LinearLayout.
Add android:layout_below="#+id/imageView1" to the WebView.
Add android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" to the Button.
Add android:contentDescription to ImageView.
Use #string instead of hardcoded strings.
Optional steps are not bolded, they will remove warnings.
Whole working code, tested under Android 4.1.2:
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:contentDescription="TODO: DESCRIPTION"
android:src="#drawable/ic_launcher" />
<WebView
android:id="#+id/webView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_below="#+id/imageView1" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/newsbutton"
style="?android:attr/buttonStyleSmall"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="bottom"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:text="Chiudi" />
</RelativeLayout>
copy paste the following in your button component ;)
android:layout_marginBottom="147dp"
android:layout_marginTop="50dp"
android:layout_marginleft="50dp"
android:layout_marginRight="47dp"
play only with the numbers and Im sure ull get the hang of it :)
Just add android:layout_below="#id/webView1" in your button.
If you would use LinearLayout, you could set the Widget that should fill the empty space like this: layout_height="0dp" and layout_weight="1". This should do the job too.
