so I'm looking for a solution where I can add new imageviews, and when I remove one, the rest adjust.
I've included a poorly drawn example of what I mean - when we remove the "man" imageview, everything else shifts to the left. I'm pretty new to Android development so I'm not sure if this is possible/what type of layout I would need/which terms to search. Any help would be appreciated!

after removal: https://i.stack.imgur.com/LBJrH.png
Simply just use the GridView for this. Update the records when you take the action for deleting the item from the GridView, and make it notified your GridView can automatically make it for you.
if you are about just put them and remove one photo by clicking button so its simple .. but I 'm not sure what you want exactly ... any why if this is the case you can but the images pathes in an Array int[] imagesArray = {R.raw.firs_img, R.raw.second_img .....} and set the photos imgView1.setImageresource(imagesArray[varieble]) by clicking a button you can change the variable so you can change the photo
you can give the code to help you better abd give us more infrmation about wha tyou want to do

Before that I start explaining the problem I need to say one thing: I'm totally new to android programming, I can use java without problem, but i still don't know the android packages and classes.
I have a LinearLayout with 2 columns, inside the first column there are some buttons, the second contains a scrollView, in this scrollViewthere should be some... items that the user can add, those items have a title and a text, i already defined thoose objects in another class, and i add them to the scrollViewfrom a button.
From now i put in that object a button that is used to delete the item, but now i realized that it's really ugly, so i was thinking: is it possible to allow the user to drag and drop the item out of the screen to delete it?
I could surely do it by managing the event of pression and release on the item with some listener, but i'm almost sure that there's some android class created for sliding UI components.
Something like what you do with android notification.
I post an image of how the current app is so you can understand better what i said: http://i.stack.imgur.com/fHWK3.jpg (I don't have enough reputation to post images)
If i wasn't clear just say and i will edit with the requested information.
UPDATE: After reading the resource that Bonatti posted in his answer i added a OnLongClickListener for starting the drop, and a OnDragListener to look the cordinates during the drag, now i have a problem... I need my component to be dragged only horizzontally like how you usually remove notification from the notification bar, i thought about the fact that i could save the Y-location of the shadow created by the DragShadownBuilder when i create it, and then i could check in the OnDrag event if the Y-location now is different from the beginning i correct it, but the problem is... how can i access the shadow's location?
The basics of what you are asking for can be found here:
I cant post more than 2 links, so redo these:
http:// developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/ drag-drop.html
These other might help with what you need in details:
Link 1: code.tutplus Or Link 2: vogella
They both answer what you need.
To put it simple:
You need an "action" to receive that a button/something was pressed (and that is still being pressed), and then update the screen to match the item position
In android i am trying to add multiple images and multiple text in a single button here is a image link to what i am trying to do. "http://imgur.com/0U7hMGw"i would love and appreciate any help on this i can get. Also to get the Circle images i was think of just using a drawable is the the best thing to do? I don't know how to make the image/profile picture to be a circle because when i add the drawable it adds it to the whole button not just the profile picture. Thank you very much for your help!
There's no need to set multiple images to a button. You can have a RelativeLayout with those images/texts, and set an OnClickListener to the RelativeLayout itself.
At the top there is the favorites/styles/all channels
i don't know what that widget/control is i need to know what it is
i am certain i saw it before i just can't seem to find it again.
then there is a listview which is easy to implement no help needed there
then the same control again, i need to know how to build it.
it looks like a native Android control, i know how i can make one just like it using image buttons but i am sure i am missing something.
P.S. this is an image from sky.fm app on android
EDIT: I Do no need help with the ListView i already did that
What i do need help with is how to make the "favorites/styles/all channels" buttons if there is a way to do natively.
If there isn't a way to do natively, and you are sure just say there isn't a way to do natively ( that would be a good answer )
the perfect answer would be a working code, but i am not lazy i am already implementing the code my self
There's no native control for this. It's probably a Button or maybe ToggleButton. You could create a background xml with different states for selected true or false. And when you click the button toggle the selected state.
Top might be a custom tab layout, or just a bunch of buttons with custom styling.
Main part looks like a listview with complex row views.
Bottom almost definately is a bunch of buttons.
You can implement it using ClickableListAdapter. There is also tab implementation.try it.
Just make it using image buttons and put filters in your ListView, or create your own filter form scratch !
After seeing the last screenshots of new foursquare application and their balloon like cartoon instructions, I'd like to create some of these in my application.
I found a similar question for iPhone
Small popup for instructions... How?
Here is another screenshot of foursquare app:
I'd like to know how I could achieve that with Android.
Thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE: This is what I could get so far but adding some buttons with a custom drawn background and layering them with a FrameLayout:
But I still couldn't get the triangle effect. Maybe there is something I can do with my custom background shape?
UPDATE2
After checking your suggestions, I decided to go with Aaron C idea and added an image with an arrow on it. This is my current result:
Thank you Snailer, QuickAction API project seems very much promissing. I'll check it out when implementing more features in my app.
Now, I just need to get the right color or maybe I could just let it this way. It seems nice too.
And, so, to summarize what I did:
Got my initial xml layout inside a FrameView.
As I'm using a frameview, everything I put in here will be piled one over the other. That's how I could add things to the layout.
In that framelayout, I put 2 relativelayouts whith an image with the triangle and a button to create the two upper popups. In the bottom I put a button only.
That's it. I hope it helps somebody.
Thank you very much again for all your help!
That sounds like a neat thing to implement. There might be a built-in Android variation on AlertDialog that achieves this, but if not here is how I would go about implementing it:
Create a new Activity whose background is black with a very high (low?) alpha color value. This will allow you to see through it to the previous Activity in the stack. Then, add your alert at whatever coordinates you like using a relative layout with padding values.
You might also want to add a touch listener that exits the Activity if the user touches the balloon (or maybe anywhere in the screen).
If you want to be fancy with coordinate placement of the balloon, you can pass this information into the new Activity using the Activity's launch Intent with the putExtra() methods.
It's probably achieved through skinning a toast.
The developer documentation shows a skinned toast in "Creating a custom toast view" at http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/toasts.html
You may want to look at the QuickAction API. It acheives this by using PopupWindow, skinned, positioned, and animated.
I have a list view with some items in it and I would like to know how to add extra information to the side of this? I have a photoshopped example below of what I mean, it's difficult to describe without an image or I would have used google to try and find the answer myself. I want it with the extra text on the right hand side, i've seen it done easily within the iPhone but i'm a bit stuck with android. Thanks.
it's easy in Android too, you need to create a custom layout for a list item and set up an adapter to write to the fields of your new layout. here an example.
