Back pressed events with system alert window - android

I need to dismiss system alert window on back pressed and home button event.I have tried with onKeyEvent but in vain. As we can't capture the back pressed event in a service, how to achieve this?

Since it's a service that hosting an overlay window, It's a bit tricky solution but it is possible.
You should handle these 2 cases separately (overriding home button press, and back button press).
1. Overriding home button press:
Create this HomeWatcher class which contains a BroadcastReceiver that will notify when home button was pressed. Register this receiver only when your window comes up.

Inside your service onCreate method use this:

The idea is creating an empty layout as a data member of your window class,
and attach your view to it (even if its an inflated XML layout).

I know it's a bit complicated as I said since it's a system alert window hosted by a service, BUT it's working. I have the same issue as well and it has been solved exactly like that.

Declare this on your activity. super.OnBackPressed automatically calls back method in android. it will surely cancel your dialog.

I understand that you are using the <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW" /> permission for showing a floating view.
Using a floating view you can intercept the back button press, but the home button press cannot be intercepted (android won't let you primarily because of security reasons).
To intercept the back button press you need to add a wrapper when you inflate your floating view.
Your wrapper should look like this:

It's simple. Follow these steps:
Create a view like Relative Layout, Linear Layout or Frame Layout Dynamically. 2. Override the dispatchKeyEvent while creating the view.
Add your original view into this dynamically created view with addView() method.
Add the dynamically created view to your Window Manager or Alert Dialog whichever you want.

onBackPressed not called when PopupWindow is showing

So currently I'm using a PopupWindow to display an in app browser. However when pressing the back button it does nothing. I'm using the PopupWindow in another Fragment, then I use a statement to set the PopupWindow in my FragmentActivity and then when I press my back button it should check if the PopupWindow is set or not and dismiss it or not. However it doesn't even run through the onBackPressed.

Ignore the WebView for now. That might be a question in the future, but I want the PopupWindow to close first. Any help is appreciated.
Make your PopupWindow not focusable:

Also remove this line which was redundant:
popWindow.setFocusable(true);
I think you should define a static method removePopupWindow(view v) in MainActivity,
and call it inside onBackPressed() like MainActivity.removePopupWindow(popWindow);

Ok, so this question was asked a long time ago, but I think I have a better solution. What I've done is add an OnDismissListener to my popup. In this listener I've added the code I wanted to execute when the popup got dismissed. This way Android still get's to manage the opening and closing of the popup and I just added a single line to make it work.
This is the way to add one:

Android how to clearing touch events between activitie and dialog

Scenario:
There is an activity and a dialog.The Activity has a button to launch that shows the Dialog on screen.
Problem:
when Dialog the is showing and I touch the button (instead of single tap), Dialog becomes invisible but quickly shows up again ! I want to touch outside of the dialog but do not show The dialog again.
How can this be done? Or is there another fix ?

There seems no need to set touch listener for root view, you can control the same thing by invoke setCanceledOnTouchOutside();

onBackPressed function not working under IMMERSIVE STICKY mode

I'm using Immersive Mode for an activity with videoView inside.
My goal is when touch on screen, the media controller and the system control bar show or disappear together. Everything works fine now.
The problem is I can't leave activity properly. When I press the back button once, the system bar just hide again and nothing happens. I have to press twice to exit the activity. I don't know why.
Here's my code.

If you want to exit the activity when the back button is pressed and the media controller is visible then you can intercept the back button with the following code snippet.

Dismiss Custom Alert Dialog on Back button pressed of hardware in android

I am having problem on back button of hardware. In my main Activity, I have one List view(say 1). When I click on item of this List view(1), one Alert Dialog appears, in this alert dialog, there is one List view(say 2). Data of this List view(2) are being repeated when I press back button of hardware. I have also put cancel image on this alert dialog to dismiss, when I press this cancel image, data are not being repeated. I tried different methods onResume(), onPause(), onDestroy(), onRestart() to clear the array for List view(2), but nothing works. Here is my code...

how to listen key when popup is opened

I am writing an application to animate popup window. It was working great with my code.
I want to close the popup window(i.e to slide-down it), when back button is pressed on device.
But I couldn't listen any one key from device. I used setOnKeyListener of that popup window, I didn't even get log from it.

The dialog has a property of cancelling the dialog on back press.

You should override the onKeyPressed() method of your activity as below.

Try this.
You can't listen a key press in popup window, but when you listen to system back key, you can override dismiss() method to intercept it.
