Calling android dialog without it fading the background - android

I have this nice dialog view I set my UserInputDialog class to:
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/LinearLayout01"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/nameMessage"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="What is your name Captain?"
>
</TextView>
<EditText
android:id="#+id/nameEditText"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textSize="18sp"
>
</EditText>
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/LinearLayout02" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal">

</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
I want my dialog to show up but for the background to not fade out. Is this possible? Cause the view that calls this dialog has a neato background I would like to be shown as a backdrop to the dialog.
I found this online:

but not sure how to apply that to my dialog? I have a class called public class UserInputDialog extends Dialog implements OnClickListener. It sets its content view to the layout described above.
I think I am doing this all right, just not sure how to add that style so I can NOT fade the background.
Secondary question: Can you get new looks on your dialog (by say having an image or icon display with your text there) by using Themes?

You can also remove the dim effect by code with the following:
dialog.getWindow().clearFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DIM_BEHIND);

Create a res/values/styles.xml file and add this to it.

<resources>

</resources>
And apply the theme to your activity.
<activity android:name=".SampleActivity" android:theme="#style/Theme.DoNotDim">

Create a custom style and place it in your values folder

<resources>

</resources>
To set a style to an individual dialog you can use
Dialog dialog = new Dialog(context, R.style.YourCustomStyle);

For displaying dialog like TrueCaller do this:
In styles.xml file.

<resources>

</resources>
In AndroidManifest.xml do this:
<activity android:name=".SampleActivity" android:theme="#style/myBackgroundStyle">

Android: How to get rid of the header bar in App?

For some reasons when I launch the app in the splash activity and in the row activity, see images, there is a header bar with the name of the app "Baby Read".
I don't want the header there, how do I get rid of it?
Splash Activity
Row Activity
[![enter image description here][2]][2]
This is the splash layout:

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/babyreadappsplash"
>
</LinearLayout>
And this is the row layout:

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/icon"
android:layout_width="90px"
android:layout_height="90px"
android:layout_marginLeft="10px"
android:layout_marginRight="10px"
android:layout_marginBottom="10px"
android:layout_marginTop="10px"
android:src="#drawable/ic_launcher" >
</ImageView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/label"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#+id/label"
>
</TextView>
This is res/values/styles after adding the code suggested
[![enter image description here][3]][3]
And this is the manifest after adding the code suggested
Create a style for your splash Activity like this

after that set this style for your splash Activity in Manifest
<activity
android:name="activity name"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.NoActionBar"
/>
Update
make your style like this

if not work for you change the parent of your AppTheme to Theme.AppCompat.Light.ActionBar
You can use this in onCreate:
getSupportActionBar().hide();
No need to create anew theme (At least for this purpose)
Modify you app theme (Picture one)change parent="android:Theme.Holo.Light.DarkActionBar" for parent="android:Theme.Holo.NoActionBar"
On you manifest, in the application section (picture 2)add
android:theme="#style/AppTheme"
If by any change you are supporting APIs below 13 you can add

false

true

to your app theme rather than changing the parent.
As a side note I would advise moving from Holo themes to Appcompat or even Material, but that´s out of the scope of this question

Same style for every row in Android's TableLayout

Is there any way in Android XML to set the same style (or style paramerers, like padding) for all rows in a TableLayout at once?
What I would like to avoid doing is:
<TableLayout>
<TableRow style="#style/MyStyle">...</TableRow>
<TableRow style="#style/MyStyle">...</TableRow>
<TableRow style="#style/MyStyle">...</TableRow>
<TableRow style="#style/MyStyle">...</TableRow>
...
</TableLayout>
You can define your own styles by creating XML files on the res/values directory. So, let's suppose you want to have red and bold text, then you create a file with this content:

<resources>

</resources>
You can name it like you want, for instance res/values/red.xml. Then, the only thing you have to do is using that view in the widgets that you want, for instance:

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
>
<TextView
style="#style/MyRedTheme"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="This is red, isn't it?"
/>
</LinearLayout>

Creating style for checkbox

I'm putting some settings to the checkbox, and it works. But when I take them into a style and apply them, it doesn't. Per below, first button uses the style (NOT working), second one direct settings (works). What's wrong with my style file, per below? Tks
<CheckBox android:id="#+id/mon"
android:text ="Mon"
android:layout_width="80dp"
android:layout_height="80dp"
android:contentDescription="Monday"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
style="#style/FilledCheckButton"
/>
<CheckBox android:id="#+id/tue"
android:text="Tue"
android:layout_width="80dp"
android:layout_height="80dp"
android:contentDescription="Tuesday"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/mon"
android:gravity="center"
android:background="#drawable/v4_btn_weekday"
android:button="#drawable/v4_btn_weekday"
/>
My style file:

<resources xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

</resources>
Try this way

<resources xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

Android: Title not shown in Custom Title Bar with Custom ListAdapter View

I have created a custom title bar with the following.
myapptitle.xml

<TextView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/myTitle"
android:text="#string/app_name"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#color/titletextcolor"
android:textSize="14sp"
android:layout_gravity="top"
/>
themes.xml

<resources>

</resources>
manifext.xml
<application
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:theme="#style/customTheme" >
.....
I have created a customList adapater and a layout for that like the one below.

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/icon"
android:layout_width="22dip"
android:layout_height="22dip"
android:layout_marginLeft="4dip"
android:layout_marginRight="10dip"
android:layout_marginTop="4dip"
android:contentDescription="#string/app_msg_title"
android:src="#drawable/logo_small" >
</ImageView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/msgDate"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textSize="14sp"
/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/msgTitle"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textSize="14sp" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/label"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#+id/label"
android:textSize="12sp" >
</TextView>
</LinearLayout>
In my list activity I have given the below code on onCreate method.
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE);
getWindow().setFeatureInt(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE,
R.layout.myapptitle);
But somehow while running the application I'm getting the title bar without any text in it at all. In my strings.xml for app_name i have My Notifications as text.
Appreciate all your time and help.
Edited
Styles.xml

<resources>

</resources>
Change your style.xml like below:
<resources>

</resources>
Then
In manifest file, use TitleBarTheme in application tag and for activity use like below:
android:theme="#android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar"
and in activity class use your code which is:
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE);
getWindow().setFeatureInt(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE,
R.layout.myapptitle);

How to set the textsize, textcolor and other parameters for the imagebutton in android?

How to set the text size, text color and other parameters in one xml and than assign them to the imagebutton in android?
I can set the parameters manually for each button, but if there are more than 3 buttons it becomes a nightmare. What is the best practices for doing this?
You can use styles for that
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/themes.html
Create a style depending on your requirement's add that to your button like this style="#style/your_style". look at this tutorial Styles and Themes

<resources>

</resources>

<EditText
style="#style/CustomText"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Hello, World!" />
<TextView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#00FF00"
android:typeface="monospace"
android:text="#string/hello" />
