Emulator Buzzing Sound - android

When I start my emulator whether in Eclipse or from command prompt, the emulator causes a buzzing sound, and will not exit, I MUST restart my computer. When I add the -noaudio command line option, there is no buzzing, and the emulator will exit perfectly. Any suggestions

Some people on googlegroups (and others) have had success with
-audio oss
but it will block all other audio on your machine.

ADB commandline Hanging during install (PhoneGap)

My Phonegap app refuses to load onto my Android device (even the HellowWorld default app is refusing to load)
Everything was running just great until today.
Here's my console log:

It just sits there saying running... forever.
I have another terminal window open with adb logcat running and at some point (maybe 10-15 seconds into that last line getting printed) it stops logging. Termination of the process and subsequent calls to adb logcat result in more hanging (no logging at all)
So then I have to do a kill-server, start-server to break out of this endless hanging at which point the phonegap process terminates with:
[error] An error occurred while running the android project.
***\platforms\android\cordova\node_modules\q\q.js:126

I have tried::
deleting my .cordova folder in C:\Users\Name
running the adb install directly (without phonegap)
deploying to an emulator (same problem)
unplugging / replugging the device
rebooting all devices
toggling "developer mode" on the device and revoking USB debugging privileges
I am all out of ideas!
Would greatly appreciate any tips or leads.
ADB version 1.0.31
Galaxy S3 running Android v4.3
EDIT:
Deploying to an emulator claims to complete successfully, but the app never opens and does not appear in the app list inside the emulator. So I have no way of actually testing it on the emulator either.
Would really appreciate some assistance.
EDIT 2:
After some further tinkering I've discovered my issue can be more specifically described as ADB hangs (freezes) when I attempt to talk to my device. I've determined this because adb shell, adb install, and adb push all fail the same way as described above. No error, just finite waiting.
adb logcat, adb devices, and other read functions work perfectly fine until one of the aforementioned write functions hangs in which case I need to do a adb kill-server or TASKKILL to get adb logcat working again.
Not sure if this added information helps, but there you go. The last thing I haven't yet tried is to do a factory reset on my phone as suggested by this fellow. If I can't find a solution soon I will back up my data as best I can and attempt this...
Please save me before this becomes my last option!
In case this helps others I had a problem with similar symptoms. ADB install -r "apk path" would hang indefinitely.
I troubleshooted a myriad of things and identified that it was my USB cable length.
I have an USB extender cable as that I plug my devices into. The combined length of my device's cable and the USB extender cable caused this issue. Removing the extension cable fix the issue and eventually I replaced my USB extender cable with a shorter extension cable for the final solution.
The issues seems to resolve itself randomly. As others suggested, an arbitrary combination of ADB kill-server, restarting the device, and re-installing SDKs seems to alleviate the problem (even if only for a couple pushes).
I still have no idea what causes this hanging and, though superstitiously believe the arbitrary combination described above fixes it, am unsure how to permanently resolve it.
To future people reading this, until a solid explanation is given my only advice is to square away an hour or so to restart / rebuild your dev environment... and make sure you buy a durable stress ball.
Shot in the dark here, but some more things to try:
Are you on a work PC or something? Make sure you have USB write permissions. Also, try different USB ports and cables. You have the latest USB driver for your devices right?
Try updating the SDK tools. Or maybe something got corrupted and a re-install might do the trick.
You have free space on your devices right?
Unknown sources is checked on both devices?
What version of Android are you targeting?
Do try restart the device like other suggested. From my experience, kill the adb process, then run the cordova run command helps magically sometimes.
In my case adb seemed to hang, but in fact the data transfer from Mac to emulator was really slow:
$ adb push platforms/android/build/outputs/apk/android-debug.apk /data/local/tmp/
150 KB/s (15587200 bytes in 101.223s)
It's a lot faster on USB connected real device. Don't know why...
Had the same (original) issue (with cordova / testing on an old device) ie. hang during install.
Tried running adb install directly from cmd line ...
adb [-s <deviceID>] install <apk>
...and same issue so not cordova specific....
Opened android device monitor (ADM) ...
..sdk\tools>monitor
..and ran install from cmd line again and saw logcat message saying package was sdk 16 / device was 15...doh!
So went back to AndroidManifest.xml and changed android:minSdkVersion to 15 and all back to normal again - install worked fine.
( Issue arose because I had installed something else which had changed the minSdkVersion and then removed the something else and never reset the minSdkVersion )
So, possibly device sdk / android version is too low for your build. If not, a look at the ADM logcat output as you initiate the install from the command line might indicate what the issue is.
Unplugging and plugging device again usually helps.

could not access the package manager. is the system running while installing android application

While installing the android application in the emulator I am getting the following error.
Please help me to resolve this error.
Error message:
emulator.exe -avd avd_name
adb wait-for-device
adb install path-to.apk
could not access the package manager. is the system running while installing android application....
You need to wait for the emulator to full start - takes a few minutes. Once it is fully started (UI on the emulator will change), it should work.
You will need to restart the app after the emulator is running and choose the running emulator when prompted.
As other have said, this error occurs because the emulator is still in the process of launching. An attempt to access the package manager, for the device, at this time causes an error.
It's just a simple timing issue. Here are the steps to avoid this error:
Wait until the emulator 'lock screen' is showing.
Run the 'app' again (^R in most IDE's).
Choose the running device (Should be the same emulator).
App should install without error.
In my case it was just that the emulator took 9 minutes to start. Wait until you see the lock icon on the emulator LCD. Or use actual tablet or phone.
Facing Same issues following Link helped solving the problem. The above solutions were not helpful for me.
deployment-failed-could-not-access-the-package-manager-is-the-system-running
By restarting server using CMD application was back to work. Open cmd (Run as administrator), open this
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
(this path must specify your android-sdk installation folder )
Now, first write,
adb kill-server and then adb start-server.
Kill the process/server and restart it.! It worked.
You can avoid the error by setting default device before launching application. Launch the AVD before starting the app.
Once you see this error, wait for emulator to show lock screen. And then relaunch the app in your IDE and check the emulator again. It works for me always.
In Android studio, you can relaunch by clicking the green play button or ctrl + r.
If this error is gotten when using a rooted device's su prompt and not from emulator, disable SELinux first
setenforce 0
You may need to switch to shell user first for some pm operations
su shell
then re-run your pm command.
Same applies to am commands unavailable from su prompt.
The solution for me was to restart the IDE. I suspect that a slow emulator was hiding from view, blocking installation on my device.
Check your project build is in Debug mode not Release, I had some problem for debugging always I forget to change Release mode to Debug (Xamarin Users)

Android Emulator - Command Line Building

Back again on Stack needing help from fellow Android Developers. In my development environment im using a lot of command line building and management. Currently im running into a issue where the Terminal "Using Mac OSX" when executing the command "emulator -avd nameOfemulator" the Terminal is still live.
Example of Launching Emulator
However even when the emulator is open and live, The Terminal is not let go to be able to execute additional command, I dont want to just open a new tab or window to have to execute my adb command's. Currently i can closes the emulator and kill the live terminal/emulator command by a simple 'ctrl-C' however this defeats the purpose if the emulator is closed.
Does anybody know of anyway of getting the terminal live again, either through a script, string of commands, different type of emulator's, etc.
UPDATE
Now running the following command emulator -avd NexusSeven & This emulator has the HAX Intel Hardware Acceleration enabled. And shortly after the terminal becomes available again, The string "HAX is working and emulator runs in fast virt mode" is inputted into the command input and makes the terminal live again.
Since MacOSX is just a fork of BSD Linux, the emulator can be run in background by appending the ampersand:
emulator -avd NexusSeven &
To ignore all output, the following command will help:
emulator -avd NexusSeven > /dev/null 2>&1 &

Audio not working in the android emulator (win7)

When starting my emulator from Eclipse or from the command line (Win7x32), I see no emulator window popup and the process hangs.
From the command-line, with -verbose, I see logs until the two lines:
emulator: using 'winaudio' audio input backend
emulator: using 'winaudio' audio output backend
... and then nothing.
When I start from the command line with -verbose and -noaudio options, the emulator starts up.
I can modify the Eclipse avd startup settings to have -noaudio, but I'd like to find a way to get audio working.
The commands emulator -help-audio-in and emulator -help-audio-out show winaudio and winaudio & sdl, available, respectively.
Does anyone have pointers as to how to get audio working with my emulator?
Edit
After this happened again, I discovered it was a faulty audio driver - basically a Windows audio driver issue. Reinstalling the driver (and removing any usb-attached audio hardware like webcams, etc.) allowed the emulator to start w/o hanging # winaudio statements.

How to attach back the Android emulator to ADB?

After I start the emulator by hitting Debug in Eclipse, after certain time it disconnects from the ADB, but the emulator stays open. It is responsive, I can navigate and start apps.
How can I attach back the emulator to ADB, to be able to debug from Eclipse?
(the current workaround is the terminate the emulator, close Eclipse and restart both of them, which takes 10 minutes as you know the emulator needs time to start up)
EDIT 1
Check out this image:
EDIT 2
After I kill and restart server. One emulator process shows up in Devices tab in Eclipse. But that cannot be expanded, and I don't see sub-processes.
I can't hit debug already, as it says: Debug already running. (How to I stop the debug?)
If I managed to start the debugging of another project, It hangs out in the emulator telling me: Waiting for the debugger to attach. Nothing happens.
As you said, the problem is not Eclipse losing contact with the Emulator, but ADB - the Android Debug Bridge - losing contact with it. As Eclipse uses ADB to communicate with the emulator when ADB is broken Eclipse can do nothing.
To fix this stop the ADB server by running the following command:
adb kill-server
Eclipse will then usually try to restart ADB, or you can restart it yourself by running an ADB command, such as:
adb devices
If you do, you'll see output like this:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
emulator-5554 device
You can also do this via the mouse, using the Reset adb option in the Devices view in Eclipse.
It's also worth noting the Console view has two modes, DDMS and Android. You're usually in Console mode but it's DDMS mode which will show ADB status messages. Select modes by clicking the button with the Monitor icon, or using the arrow next to it:
If all else fails, try killing the adb processes from the OS. On Windows XP I use:
TASKKILL /F /IM adb.exe
There is an easier way. From eclipse you can reset the adb from DDMS panel.
Here's a short video on doing that "Reset ADB on DDMS"
Here's a quick screenshot of where you can get the option.
Sometimes a kill-server won't help at my machine (WinXP). For example I can't see the emulator in the DDMS-View any more or I do see it but no processes running on it.
In these cases I close the emulator and eclipse and manually kill the adb.exe-process from the process list.
When I then restart eclipse and the emulator, everything's fine again.
Now I just need a keyboard-shortcut for that :-)
on a mac, i just had to kill adb from activity manager and manually re-open the program again. had eclipse open all through and it worked just fine.
Try with adb kill-server and adb start-server. Even then the same problem occurs kill your running process from ddms prespective. Refer this link(http://www.jiahaoliuliu.com/2011/02/stopping-android-applications-already.html). This solved my issue. Hope for you also.
I am testing an application on an Android 4.0 (API level 14) emulator and once I run the app the emulator starts up and as soon as it loads, Eclipse DDMS disconnects from the emulator.
Here is the workaround that I am using: Open terminal, navigate to platform tools (C:\android-sdk\platform-tools\ or wherever you have your android-sdk installed), and run adb kill-server, and then run, adb start-server. DDMS should now list the emulator - from Java perspective, right click on the app -> Run As -> Android Application.
Hope this helps.
My handy bash script
#!/bin/bash
./path/to/adb kill-server
./path/to/adb start-server
./path/to/adb devices
