using only one button to play and pause a Mediaplayer in Android - android

I am new to Android, my requirement is to use only one button for playing and pause using media player class?

Once you have your MediaPlayer set up, I would just set up in your onCreate() and onResume() methods, a check to see if the MediaPlayer is currently playing (MediaPlayer's isPlaying() method should work for you), and if it is playing, set the button's image and click handler to change it to a pause button. If the MediaPlayer isn't playing, then set it to be a play button.
You'll also need to handle listening for events such as when the MediaPlayer stops (finishes playing the audio file), as well as inverting the button state when you press it (i.e. pressing play changes button to pause, and vice versa).

I would use 2 buttons and hide one of them:

you can use a single Imagebutton and change the drawable image , in conjuction with a toggling boolean variable to check the state of the button (play/pause).

The following code worked for me. The value of the "playedLength" variable should also be initialize to zero, and set the "mediaPlaying" boolean value to false in the media player stop function to avoid errors.

Media Player start stop start

I am making a new android sound application. I made a clickable button to play sound when I click on it. But I also want it to stop playing sound when I click for the second time. That part works fine now here is the problem, when I click again on button to play sound again, it doesn't play it, Media player is completely stopped. When I try to write mpButtonClick1.prepare(); I get error Unhandled Exception Type IOE exception
Try to use pause instead of stop.
Reason: if you pause the MediaPlayer, then you can resume it later. However, if you use stop, almost any other method won't work and you will have to prepare the MediaPlayer again (or create a new one).

You're calling mpButtonClick1.reset() after mpButtonClick1.stop() - don't do that:

The docs for reset() say:
Resets the MediaPlayer to its uninitialized state. After calling this method, you will have to initialize it again by setting the data source and calling prepare().
Remove mpButtonClick1.reset() and it should work.
Keep in mind that MediaPlayer works as a state machine, which means that if you call methods in the wrong order, you'll get problems. Please read about MediaPlayer here and here.

In my experience when I need to play multiple times and I may need to stop one play to start another play, (like in the case of multiple buttons), I just create another player, making sure that I release the resources for the previous one. To stop just use
mediaPlayer.stop();
But for play use something like this (adapt the logging to your specific needs) to create/recreate your player:

this will ensure proper release of the resources used by the media player.
A simple solution is to Use pause instead of stop and the seek to the beginning of the song.
I know that this question is quite old but recently while learning Android, I also got stuck at this point and found a very simple solution which I'd like to share with everyone.
Instead of trying to stop or reset the media, you can just seek back to the starting position.

Android MediaPlayer Stop and Play

I'm creating Android application contains 2 buttons, on click on each button play a mp3 file.
The problem is when I play button1 it plays sound1, when I click button2 it plays sound2.
I check on each button the other player if it's working and I stop it and play the clicked one
But If I click on same button twice it's keep first audio playing in the background and play another one again
I tried to check isPlaying() and to stop it, but it doesn't work!
I want If I click on button1 it play sound1 and if clicked on it again it stop it and play it again from beginning.

According to the MediaPlayer life cycle, which you can view in the Android API guide, I think that you have to call reset() instead of stop(), and after that prepare again the media player (use only one) to play the sound from the beginning. Take also into account that the sound may have finished. So I would also recommend to implement setOnCompletionListener() to make sure that if you try to play again the sound it doesn't fail.

Android music player application not opening

I am trying to make a simple application of a music player with simple ImageButtons for play and pause.
I tried doing it but from the emulator, at run-time, an error appears "unfortunately not able to open the appication."
I tried with only the code for play button and it worked but when the code for pause button is added the run-time error occurs. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

The error is you are not setting the pausebtn to be of the ImageButton widget.
Something like this should do it:

Android - Looping Activity to Repeat MediaPlayer

I'm trying to create a soundboard for longer audio files and can't figure out how to stop an audio file and start it again without closing the activity. Let's say each audio file is one minute long. If I play the first audio file for 20 seconds and start the next audio file, the first stops playing and the second starts playing. However, if I click the first audio file again, the second stops playing and the first does not. I need help. This is driving me insane.

Inside the button click check for mediaPlayer.isPlaying(). This will return true if the media player is playing else false.
So now with this, flag value you can make a if statement and switch to play or pause like this,

Below code takes care of your play/pause button click event along with forward and backward buttons for forward and backward seek on the seekbar provided (which is synchronized with the media track). Currently it plays just ONE song. However, you can add to that. This is my first media player using mediaplayer class, so you might find it a bit primitive. However if you need you can also check out the VideoView examples. It's apparently easier with VideoView as the standard media console is already present in the form of pre-defined widgets. so that makes designing the player much easier.
