Is developing an android/phonegap app with Netbeans IDE a good method? - android

My objective is to have an IDE with JS syntax error reporting and a PhoneGap plugin.
My goal is to make an android application using PhoneGap.
I understand that Eclipse has a well supported PhoneGap plugin.
The issue is that I have spent hours trying to get Eclipse JS syntax error reporting to work with no luck.
Netbeans is extremely easy to install and has working JS syntax error reporting with no extra steps needed. For example, with NetBeans, I just install and everything (including JS syntax error reporting) works. With Eclipse, I must install, then install several addons related to JS. In the end, I could not get the JS syntax error reporting of Eclipse to work, despite hours of research. I am new to Eclipse.
Is developing an android/phonegap app with Netbeans IDE a good method?
I found this plugin, but don't know exactly how it works with PhoneGap or if it's any good: http://www.nbandroid.org/

The Phonegap plugin described here on the PhoneGap wiki includes the default Eclipse JSDT syntax checking. It also includes an option to turn on customizable JSLint checking - see Section 7 here. This all comes with a single plug-in to add the Android ADT.
If something's not working for you, it would be great if you raised the specific problem on StackOverflow, on the mailing list, or create an issue.

From 7.4 version Netbeans has Phonegap support without external modules.
Obviously you need also phonegap and android sdk :)

How to debug NativeScript java code in Android Studio?

I'm quite new to NativeScript. Currently, one of my projects is using NativeScript to develop cross-platform app. It has a 3rd-party lib which is written in java. But the result is not as good as I expected. I was struggling to find the problem since the console didn't log valuable info regarding to native code.
Instead, I import the project to Android Studio which is under the folder of platform/android. But it logs error when I hit the "run" button.
I want to know:
Is it possible to debug native code directly with VS Code. At least print out java native error or cat log.
How can I debug native code in Android Studio? How to solve the problem I ran into?
I'd be very appreciated, if anyone can answer my questions. Thanks!
Let me start off by saying there's no official integration with Android Studio. All I can provide is a workaround that will make it possible.
Note: The steps provided below are tested with NativeScript CLI 3.1.1 and will probably work also with 3.2.0.
The first problem is you don't have "node" set in your global path so first of all, you need to add it to PATH. Node required for NativeScript to run. You can look at how to set it up here
If you want to be able to run the project with Android Studio you can follow these steps:
After you've done that you need to change the <app_name>/platforms/android/build.gradle file as described here
The above change will enable you to open <app_name>/platforms/android in Android Studio
Run <app_name>:clean task from gradle
Run the task default for Android Studio, that will prompt you for emulator or device on which to run:

PhoneGap Plugin (BluetoothSerial) doesn't work

I'd like to create a PhoneGap App and open a connection to another device through Bluetooth (https://github.com/don/BluetoothSerial). I started with the sample projects but nothing seems to happen with my settings, no events are triggered / console shows nothing.
I'm new to Phonegap and after struggling for days with installing NodeJs, Cordova (4.0.0), Phonegap (3.6.0-0.21.19), Ant, getting new Java JDK (1.7.0_71), updating Android (23, target here is Android API19) I can build and run Android apps. I followed http://www.pycode.com/android/creating-a-phonegap-cordova-3.0-app-in-eclipse.html as installation guide.
Nevertheless I couldn't build the jar file for Cordova (Target "jar" is not found), paths are set correctly. I searched online but the existing posts didn't help. Actually I found out that it's better to just use the CordovaApp-CordovaLib as a library, so I used this instead. Anyway it seems like I can't use any plugins at the moment (added in config.xml and gave Bluetooth permission in AndroidManifest.xml). I'm not even sure if this is the problem here.
Seems like many people are struggling with Phonegap and I hope somebody experienced the same issues and can help.. Thanks in advance!
Update
Figured out that the onDeviceReady method wasn't called at all. Checked for cordova.js (don't just use any!) and copied it into my C:\ProjectPath\platforms\android\assets\www folder.
Quite embarrassing, maybe that's why nobody's answered. I used the PhoneGap Developer App - of course this couldn't work. Use cordova build to build apk and test it on device..

Getting LibGDX to work in Eclipse

So I've been trying to install libgdx for a few days with Eclipse and it kept telling me various things (Android ADT, Java JDK, etc.) needed to be updated, so I did that, but I kept getting the same error.
Then I decided to download an older version (0.9.8) and I used the gdx-setup-ui.jar to set up my projects. But upon opening them in the Eclipse/ADT bundle, the Android and HTML projects had errors in them involving the import statements, which I tried to solve to no avail.
This is the tutorial I've mainly tried to follow.
Does anybody have a solution for me to get it to work? I'm most familiar with Eclipse, having worked with it for Android for a while now, so I'd prefer not to switch IDEs.
Thanks in Advance
Use ADT (Android Developer Tools) instead of Eclipse. (Is the same thing anyways)
http://developer.android.com/tools/index.html
If you got errors after importing your projects on android, right click on the android project, and at android, check the version that is there.
For HTML you need to install the GWT plugin.
Recently libGDX has moved to Gradle, so you might want to look over that

Use Sublime Text 2 to develop Phonegap applications for Android

I've been using eclipse to develop Android apps with phonegap until, a few weeks ago, I decided to try Sublime Text 2. I found it to be so much better than the eclipse editor so I would like to keep using it. Only thing I'm missing is a quick way to test the app on the device inside Sublime.
Luckily, someone else also had the same idea and developed a plugin for this:
https://github.com/Korcholis/Andrew
Sadly, I cannot get it to work, I installed ant and pointed the plugin to adb but then nothing happens when I try to create a new project (and there is no error message in the console).
I also found this other plugin:
https://bitbucket.org/ucomesdag/sublime-android
But I have no idea on how to install and run it.
Did someone else found a way to do this?
A quick update into 2014.
As of PhoneGap Cordova 3.0, it is no longer required to develop Android apps via eclipse. You are free to use any code editor or IDE you wish as app building is done independently from eclipse via a simple command line.
cordova run android to package the .apk and install on any active devices detected by adb or
cordova build android to package the .apk only.
In your case, you can keep using Sublime and pop in the cordova run android command whenever you ready to go on a test run.
While I agree with Insane Coder that you should stick with supported IDEs to develop for Android, according to this link and existing Sublime Text 2 Ant support, you could build and develop your android project with this IDE (It will just take some time to set it all up... as opposed to using a supported IDE like IntelliJ or Eclipse).
Using PackageControl, look for "Ant". That will install syntax highlighting for Ant. Another plugin that enables the build command (ctrl+b) to work for Ant files, "Super Ant". You should be able to code for android in sublime text 2 with those installed.
On another note... Do you use windows? The Andrew project you link to, seems to have Windows compatibility issues. Apparently related to locating the "SDK" (he says sdk in Andrew's github page but, probably he means JDK?) in your hard drive. Which is probably a hassle because Windows typically installs stuff to "Program Files" and in code, that turns into "Progra~1" because of the space. In the link I give you there is another approach to it, so when you install the JDK set a folder that has no spaces in its name, like c:\java\jdk1.6.0_02 or something else that strikes your fancy. The problem you could be having with Andrew is that it isn't finding the jdk in your hard disk.

Scala on Android using Netbeans (preferably 6.8)

I have tried Scala on Android using various suggestions found on the Internet. However, I have never been able to get a "one-click" solution for Netbeans. Eventually I settled for Java + Eclipse. However, the urge to create Scala programs on Android persists.
Has anyone successfully used Netbeans IDE for Scala development for the Android platform? And that too using the IDE's build tools?
Ideally the following features are needed:
Scala code completion, syntax highlighting, error checking (as in NB-6.8 + Scala 2.8)
Automatic deployment on Android using one-click
No messing around with Proguard config
No messing around with signing of the jars/apks
Please post a step-by-step guide if this is possible, or please link to an external page giving details.
Have you tried the new eclipse plugin? Those are a major improvement from a few month ago. There should be versions for 2.9.1 and (if you need scala 2.8 ) Scala 2.8.2 see www.scala-ide.org
