I have developing an App where the user can create event and set notification for that very event. I am using the following code.
final Notification notifyDetails = new Notification(R.drawable.icon, "Myapp",calendar.getTimeInMillis());
Context context = getApplicationContext();
Intent notifyIntent = new Intent(context, ViewDoughnut.class);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(ViewCal.this, 0, notifyIntent, android.content.Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
notifyDetails.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, pendingIntent);
notifyDetails.flags = Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT;
mNotificationManager.notify(eventId, notifyDetails);
I want to delete any specific notification if the user delete the event corresponding to it. I have tried with following code.
mNotificationManager.cancel(eventId);
But it is not working at all. How to do it?
see
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/notifications.html#ManageYourNotifications
and
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/NotificationManager.html#cancel%28int%29
i used the tag to cancel my notifications:
int IdFromNotification = intent.getIntExtra("myId", -1);
NotificationManager nManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
nManager.cancel(IdFromNotification + "", IdFromNotification);
needless to say that i used the same tag when setting the notification!?

I can use the following code to display a notification icon of missed calls, I hope to click the icon to open system Missed Calls UI, how can I do ? Thanks!
At present, I can open ui.CallerMain.class UI if I remove the comment.
BTW, in system Missed Calls UI, missed calls are listed in there.
private void ShowMissCallNotification(Context myContext,String myContentText) {
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) myContext.getSystemService(android.content.Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Notification notification = new Notification(android.R.drawable.sym_call_missed,
myContext.getString(R.string.app_name),
System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT;
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_NO_CLEAR;
CharSequence contentTitle= "Title";
CharSequence contentText =myContentText;
//Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(myContext, ui.CallerMain.class);
//PendingIntent contentItent = PendingIntent.getActivity(myContext, 0, notificationIntent, 0);
//notification.setLatestEventInfo(myContext, contentTitle, contentText,contentItent);
notificationManager.notify(NotificationID, notification);
}
Set a Pending Intent to the notification which will trigger the Call History.
First create an intent with Call Log
Intent resultIntent = new Intent();
resultIntent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
resultIntent.setType(CallLog.Calls.CONTENT_TYPE);
Then obtain the PendingIntent
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent =
PendingIntent.getActivity(
this,
0,
resultIntent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT
);
Then set the PendingIntent to your notification builder
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon()
.setContentTitle()
.setContentText()
.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent);
notificationManager.notify(id, builder.build());
Now clicking the notification will open the Call Log.
Update: The code commented out in your snippet will work if you create the Intent as mentioned above in this answer. But please be aware that the method by which you are creating notification has been deprecated. Use NotificationCompat class from the support library in future.
i spend a lot of time to resolve my problem. i have written a messenger client in android. my application receive income message and raise a notification. in notification bar i display each income message in a notification item. when click to notification item it will open a conversation activity to list all messages from the beginning until now. everything dose perfect but when i click another item in notification bar, nothing happen! (it must reload data for another conversation). This is my code to raise a notification:
private void showNotification(String message, Class activity, Message messageObject) {
//Get the Notification Service
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager)context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
CharSequence text = message;//getText(R.string.service_started);
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.ic_launcher, text, System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
Intent callbackIntent = new Intent(context, activity);
if(messageObject != null)
{
callbackIntent.putExtra("conversation", MessageManager.getProvider().getConversation(messageObject.getConversationId()));
}
//callbackIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
int myUniqueValue = new Random().nextInt();
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, myUniqueValue, callbackIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, messageObject.getFrom(), text, contentIntent);
notificationManager.notify(messageObject.getFrom(), myUniqueValue, notification);
}
This is code block to call showNotification function
showNotification(message.getBody(), ConversationActivity.class, messageObject);
Despite your efforts to supply a unique value, those PendingIntents are all treated as the same by the system, so once you click one, the rest are rendered inert.
You'll need to add something distinguishing to callbackIntent; I suggest inventing a data URI that includes the conversation ID or something else that's guaranteed to be different for each notification (see setData).
Finally, I'd encourage you to try to collapse multiple notifications into one icon—you don't want to spam the user. See the Notifications section in the Android Design guide, under "Stack your notifications".
i changed my code and it work very well
private void showNotification(Context context, CharSequence contentTitle, CharSequence contentText, CharSequence notificationContent, Class activity, Conversation conversation) {
//Get the Notification Service
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager)context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.ic_launcher, notificationContent, System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
Intent callbackIntent = new Intent(context, activity);
if(conversation != null)
{
callbackIntent.putExtra("conversation", conversation);
}
callbackIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
int myUniqueValue = new Random().nextInt();
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, myUniqueValue, callbackIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, contentIntent);
notificationManager.notify(myUniqueValue, notification);
}
I am displaying a notification whenever a new message is received that contains particular keywords. I have used following code to show the notification in the notification area,
String contentTitle = "V-Card Received";
String contentText = "You have reeived a new V-Card";
mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager)context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(context, receiveVCard.class);
notificationIntent.putExtra("sender", sender);
notificationIntent.putExtra("vCardString", messages[i].getDisplayMessageBody());
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, notificationIntent, Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
int icon = R.drawable.contactvcard;
CharSequence tickerText = "V-Card Received";
long when = System.currentTimeMillis();
notifyDetails = new Notification(icon, tickerText, when);
notifyDetails.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, pendingIntent);
mNotificationManager.notify(SIMPLE_NOTFICATION_ID, notifyDetails);
notifyDetails.flags =Notification.DEFAULT_LIGHTS | Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
Now I want to remove the notification once the user clicks on it. I Have used Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL to cancel the notification. But it is not removing the notification even if the user clicks on it. Is there any other way to remove the notification, when the user clicks on the notification.
You are basically setting flags after notification has been put.
You need to swap the last two lines of the code you have provided. Set flags before calling nm.notify();
try this it works fine for me
--> notificationIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP |Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,notificationIntent, 0);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, title, message, intent);
--> notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
notificationManager.notify(i, notification);
this is the prototype of the notification i used in one of my app
Notification notification=new Notification(R.drawable.ic_stat_download_interrupted,getResources().getString(R.string.dint),System.currentTimeMillis());
RemoteViews contentView = new RemoteViews(getPackageName(), R.layout.notification_download_complete);
contentView.setImageViewResource(R.id.notimage, R.drawable.ic_stat_download_interrupted);
contentView.setTextViewText(R.id.nottext, getResources().getString(R.string.dint));
contentView.setTextViewText(R.id.nottitle, update.initialDetail.fileName);
notification.contentView = contentView;
notification.flags=Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), MainDashboard.class);
notificationIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
notificationIntent.putExtra(EXTRA_NOTIFICATION_SHOW_DOWNLOADS, true);
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(getApplicationContext(),0,notificationIntent, 0);
notification.contentIntent=contentIntent;
nm.notify(update.updateId.intValue(), notification);
its working for me
notifyDetails.flags =Notification.FLAG_SHOW_LIGHTS | Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
Hope this is helpful for you.
I am developing an Android app and I want a status bar notification that cannot be cleared by the user. Does anyone know how to do that? I've seen them with apps like Skimble where a non-clearable notification appears while using the application.
Also, I'd when the user clicks/presses the notification, I want it to return to the app instance that is already running. Right now it starts a new instance. Again like the Skimble app, I just want to return to the already running instance of the app.
Thanks.
I found a solution to this problem. I used FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT to make the notification persist. Here's the code:
String ns = Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE;
NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(ns);
int icon = R.drawable.mypic;
long when = System.currentTimeMillis();
Notification notification = new Notification(icon, tickerText, when);
notification.flags = Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT;
Context context = getApplicationContext();
CharSequence contentTitle = "Title Text";
CharSequence contentText = "Content text.";
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MyClass.class);
intent.setAction("android.intent.action.MAIN");
intent.addCategory("android.intent.category.LAUNCHER");
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, intent, 0);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, contentIntent);
final int HELLO_ID = 1;
mNotificationManager.notify(HELLO_ID, notification);
Here is the solution for the NotificationCompat.Builder
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle("MyApp")
.setContentText("MyMsg")
.setOngoing(true);
More at the Google docs.
notification.setLatestEventInfo is deprecated so you have to use the Notification.builder and if your using 2.X and lower API you have to use NotificationComacpt.Builder and this is not applicable and I couldn't make my notification stays. so I used setDeleteIntent and pointed to the same activity and on resume method just call the block of code which shows your notification. So it is kinda work around.
I want to put an icon in the status bar when ever my application is running, including when it is running in the background. How can I do this?
You should be able to do this with Notification and the NotificationManager. However getting a guaranteed way to know when your application is not running is the hard part.
You can get the basic functionality of what you are desiring by doing something like:
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.your_app_icon,
R.string.name_of_your_app,
System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_NO_CLEAR
| Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT;
NotificationManager notifier = (NotificationManager)
context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notifier.notify(1, notification);
This code must be somewhere where you are sure will get fired when your application starts. Possibly in your application's custom Application Object's onCreate() method.
However after that things are tricky. The killing of the application can happen at anytime. So you can try to put something in the onTerminate() of the Application class too, but it's not guaranteed to be called.
((NotificationManager)context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE)).cancel(1);
will be what is needed to remove the icon.
For new API you can use NotificationCompat.Builder -
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle("Title");
Intent resultIntent = new Intent(this, MyActivity.class);
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(
this,
0,
resultIntent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
mBuilder.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent);
Notification notification = mBuilder.build();
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_NO_CLEAR | Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT;
mNotifyMgr = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotifyMgr.notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, notification);
It will show as long as your application is running and someone manually closes your application. You can always cancel your notification by calling -
mNotifyMgr.cancel(NOTIFICATION_ID);
Take a look at the Dev Guide "Creating Status Bar Notifications".
One way to achieve the goal of keeping the icon there only when the application is running is to initialize the notification in onCreate() and call cancel(int) in your onPause() method only if isFinishing() returns true.
An example:
private static final int NOTIFICATION_EX = 1;
private NotificationManager notificationManager;
#Override
public void onCreate() {
super.onCreate();
notificationManager = (NotificationManager)
getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
int icon = R.drawable.notification_icon;
CharSequence tickerText = "Hello";
long when = System.currentTimeMillis();
Notification notification = new Notification(icon, tickerText, when);
Context context = getApplicationContext();
CharSequence contentTitle = "My notification";
CharSequence contentText = "Hello World!";
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(this, MyClass.class);
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this,
0, notificationIntent, 0);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle,
contentText, contentIntent);
notificationManager.notify(NOTIFICATION_EX, notification);
}
#Override
protected void onPause() {
super.onPause();
if (isFinishing()) {
notificationManager.cancel(NOTIFICATION_EX);
}
}
It really works.
I created a method out of the example above:
private void applyStatusBar(String iconTitle, int notificationId) {
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle(iconTitle);
Intent resultIntent = new Intent(this, ActMain.class);
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, resultIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
mBuilder.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent);
Notification notification = mBuilder.build();
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_NO_CLEAR|Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT;
NotificationManager mNotifyMgr = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotifyMgr.notify(notificationId, notification);}
It should be called like: applyStatusBar("Statusbar Test", 10);
