I'm loading images in gridviev asynchronusly.But my gridview displaying only a single image in the last cell of gridview.My adapter class and asynchronus class is given below, thanks.
Adapter class:
class OrderAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String>
{
LayoutInflater inflater;
String name3[];
public OrderAdapter(Context context,int resource,LayoutInflater inflater,String name2[])
{
super(context, resource,R.id.img,name2);
this.inflater=inflater;
this.name3=name2;
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent)
{
View row=inflater.inflate(R.layout.row,parent,false);
final ImageView img=(ImageView)row.findViewById(R.id.img);
String imgurl=name3[position];
Log.e("urlchandan",name3[position]);
AsyncImageLoaderv asyncImageLoaderv=new AsyncImageLoaderv();
Bitmap cachedImage = asyncImageLoaderv.loadDrawable(imgurl, new AsyncImageLoaderv.ImageCallback()
{
public void imageLoaded(Bitmap imageDrawable, String imageUrl) {
img.setImageBitmap(imageDrawable);
}
});
img.setImageBitmap(cachedImage);
return row;
}
}
Asynchronous class
public class AsyncImageLoaderv {
private HashMap<String, SoftReference<Bitmap>> imageCache;
public AsyncImageLoaderv() {
imageCache = new HashMap<String, SoftReference<Bitmap>>();
}
public Bitmap loadDrawable(final String imageUrl, final ImageCallback imageCallback) {
if (imageCache.containsKey(imageUrl)) {
SoftReference<Bitmap> softReference = imageCache.get(imageUrl);
Bitmap drawable = softReference.get();
if (drawable != null) {
return drawable;
}
}
final Handler handler = new Handler() {
#Override
public void handleMessage(Message message) {
imageCallback.imageLoaded((Bitmap) message.obj, imageUrl);
}
};
new Thread() {
#Override
public void run() {
try{
Log.d("ur",imageUrl);
Bitmap drawable = loadImageFromUrl(imageUrl);
imageCache.put(imageUrl, new SoftReference<Bitmap>(drawable));
Message message = handler.obtainMessage(0, drawable);
handler.sendMessage(message);
}catch(Exception e){Log.e("thread stellent",e.toString());}
}
}.start();
return null;
}
public static Bitmap loadImageFromUrl(String url) {
InputStream inputStream;Bitmap b;
try {
inputStream = (InputStream) new URL(url).getContent();
BitmapFactory.Options bpo= new BitmapFactory.Options();
bpo.inSampleSize=2;
b=BitmapFactory.decodeStream(new PatchInputStream(inputStream), null,bpo );
return b;
} catch (IOException e) {
throw new RuntimeException(e);
}
//return null;
}
public interface ImageCallback {
public void imageLoaded(Bitmap imageBitmap, String imageUrl);
}
}
You can't do it the way you're trying. You need to have your asynchronous loader store the resulting image in some data structure your adapter can access by position (e.g. a list, a hashmap, whatever). Your getView() should then simply pull the image from the correct position. Your asynchronous loader will populate the data structure and perform a notifyDataSetChanged() to have the list redraw itself with the newly loaded image.
I got the solution by making the ImageView img in adatper inflater as final because it avoids
the images to display at a single cell in gridview . And my images was of big size and got the error decoder return false and this error is solved by taking another class
--
import java.io.FilterInputStream;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.InputStream;
public class PatchInputStream extends FilterInputStream {
public PatchInputStream(InputStream in) {
super(in);
}
public long skip(long n) throws IOException {
long m = 0L;
while (m < n) {
long _m = in.skip(n-m);
if (_m == 0L) break;
m += _m;
}
return m;
}
}
this class is used in AsyncImageLoaderv given above .
b=BitmapFactory.decodeStream(new PatchInputStream(inputStream), null,bpo );

I'm solving my problem about Image Loader and I have some problems..
What I want is to show many images (about 400) in GridView(or ListView).
I don't want to use the Library like Picasso, Glide like that.
and Here is the problem.
When I call the method which convert from url to bitmap?
3.1. before setAdapter, then pass the bitmap array.
3.2. while getView.
two things are working well. but too much slow... maybe cuz of the times to call URLConnection..
Could anyone help me about these problem? How can I speed up? or are there any other solution without Open Source.
Here is my Source.
Now, 3-1.
ShowImage
private void showImages(ArrayList<String> imgUrls) {
ArrayList<Bitmap> bitmaps = new ArrayList<>();
for (int i = 0; i < imgUrls.size(); i++) {
try {
String img_path = imgUrls.get(i);
Bitmap bitmap = new UriToBitmapAsyncTask().execute(img_path).get();
bitmaps.add(bitmap);
} catch (Exception e) {
Toast.makeText(this, e.getMessage(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
}
CustomAdapter adapter = new CustomAdapter(getApplicationContext(),R.layout.row,bitmaps);
gridView.setAdapter(adapter);
}
and This is the customAdapter's GetView
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
ViewHolder viewHolder;
if (convertView == null) {
convertView = inflator.inflate(rowLayout, parent, false);
viewHolder = new ViewHolder();
viewHolder.imageView = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.imageView);
convertView.setTag(viewHolder);
} else {
viewHolder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag();
}
viewHolder.imageView.setImageBitmap(bitmaps.get(position));
return convertView;
}
You should really take Reinventing the wheel to heart but if you really want to toture yourself an Approach could be:
use a ThreadPoolExecutor to fetch more images at once, you should read up how to use them
implement a way to cancel threads who load a img for a griditem which isn't displayed anymore
use two sets of data a thumbnail which loads faster for the grid view and a real image which gets loaded when the user clicks on the grid
dont't forget to use a LRU caching method or your device will run out of memory depending on the images
Don't use ArrayList to store bitmaps. Bitmaps usually take consumes a lot of memory. Try using LRUCache like this way,
public class TCImageLoader implements ComponentCallbacks2 {
private TCLruCache cache;
public TCImageLoader(Context context) {
ActivityManager am = (ActivityManager) context.getSystemService(
Context.ACTIVITY_SERVICE);
int maxKb = am.getMemoryClass() * 1024;
int limitKb = maxKb / 8; // 1/8th of total ram
cache = new TCLruCache(limitKb);
}
public void display(String url, ImageView imageview, int defaultresource) {
imageview.setImageResource(defaultresource);
Bitmap image = cache.get(url);
if (image != null) {
imageview.setImageBitmap(image);
}
else {
new SetImageTask(imageview).execute(url);
}
}
private class TCLruCache extends LruCache<String, Bitmap> {
public TCLruCache(int maxSize) {
super(maxSize);
}
#Override
protected int sizeOf(ImagePoolKey key, Bitmap value) {
int kbOfBitmap = value.getByteCount() / 1024;
return kbOfBitmap;
}
}
private class SetImageTask extends AsyncTask<String, Void, Integer> {
private ImageView imageview;
private Bitmap bmp;
public SetImageTask(ImageView imageview) {
this.imageview = imageview;
}
#Override
protected Integer doInBackground(String... params) {
String url = params[0];
try {
bmp = getBitmapFromURL(url);
if (bmp != null) {
cache.put(url, bmp);
}
else {
return 0;
}
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
return 0;
}
return 1;
}
#Override
protected void onPostExecute(Integer result) {
if (result == 1) {
imageview.setImageBitmap(bmp);
}
super.onPostExecute(result);
}
private Bitmap getBitmapFromURL(String src) {
try {
URL url = new URL(src);
HttpURLConnection connection
= (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
connection.setDoInput(true);
connection.connect();
InputStream input = connection.getInputStream();
Bitmap myBitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(input);
return myBitmap;
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
return null;
}
}
}
#Override
public void onConfigurationChanged(Configuration newConfig) {
}
#Override
public void onLowMemory() {
}
#Override
public void onTrimMemory(int level) {
if (level >= TRIM_MEMORY_MODERATE) {
cache.evictAll();
}
else if (level >= TRIM_MEMORY_BACKGROUND) {
cache.trimToSize(cache.size() / 2);
}
}
}
get a instance of TCImageLoader and call display method appropriately.
I'm looking for an answer half a day, but I can't find anything although I thought it is a common problem. My Problem:
I have a ListView which has items of different sizes (heights). Every item contains an ImageView. The Image for this ImageView is loaded in background by an ImageLoader class:
imageLoader.DisplayImage(url, holder.image);
If i scroll down the ListView everything works fine. the images are loaded and display (of course at the bottom of the screen / list).
But If I scroll up and the image isn't stored in cache anymore, so the ImageLoader has to reload the image, the ListView jumps / the items are moved. I think it is because a new View is created on top of the list, with an ImageView with 0dp height. If the Image is loaded and set to the ImageView the height of the ImageView changes automatically from 0dp to the size of the Image. This would push the ListView down, I think.
I tried saving the height of the ImageViews if an Image is set and then set the height of the ImageView which is created on top to the saved height. But with no success..
I don't know if you can understand my problem :D I hope so :)
Thanks and have a nice day!

Now here are many many information and code. I hope that does not scare anyone to help :D
Thanks!!
Please, Please , Please don't "re-invent the Wheel" and use any lib out there for image loading, caching etc like Picasso, Fresco , Glide etc....
I probably solved the Problem.. Finally.. My idea of setting the height of the ImageView in getView wasn't so bad.. problem was:
My ImageView was wrapped inside a CardView in XML.. So I needed to change the Height of the CardView instead of the ImageView :)
WeakHashMap ... you are using weak references. Which does right that. Deletes objects when used no more. So, just change it to HashMap and you should be doing fine.
I have the queryAppIcon() method that queries and stores images in the array appIconDrawable. However, I'm only getting blank where images should pop up. Please let me know if I should post any other relevant code
This is the relevant code inside the ViewActivity:
// global vars
final Drawable[] appIconDrawable = null;
int i;
public Drawable[] queryAppIcon() throws ParseException, IOException {
ParseQuery<ParseObject> query = ParseQuery.getQuery("AndroidStoreContent");
query.whereExists("appIcon");
List<ParseObject> ParseResult = query.find();
// Drawable array
appIconDrawable = new Drawable[ParseResult.size()];
for (i = 0; i < ParseResult.size(); i++) {
ParseFile pf = (ParseFile) ParseResult.get(i).get("appIcon");
startDownload(pf);
}
return appIconDrawable;
}
public void startDownload(ParseFile pf) {
new DownloadImageTask(this).execute(pf);
}
public class DownloadImageTask extends AsyncTask<ParseFile, Void, Drawable> {
private AsyncResponse ar;
DownloadImageTask(AsyncResponse ar) {
this.ar = ar;
}
#Override
protected Drawable doInBackground(ParseFile... pf) {
return fetchDrawable(pf[0]);
}
protected void onPostExecute(Drawable result) {
ar.processFinish(result);
}
public Drawable fetchDrawable(ParseFile pf) {
InputStream is;
try {
is = (InputStream) new URL(pf.getUrl()).getContent();
return Drawable.createFromStream(is,null);
} catch (MalformedURLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
return null;
}
}
#Override
public void processFinish(Drawable d) {
appIconDrawable[i] = d; // i also tried testing appIconDrawable[1] = d and the app loaded with all blank images and then crashes
}
This is the interface, AsyncResponse:
public interface AsyncResponse {
void processFinish(Drawable d);
}
It seems like you need a bit of refactor...
You are expecting Drawable[] from queryAppIcon() but you will always get an empty set because you start the download which takes place in a separate thread to then update the return value.
You should be setting the Drawable to the ImageView from within processFinish.
Signs of things done wrong: Async methods such as downloading images should never have a return value.
UPDATE
Here is a very simple download AsyncTask but there are many checks, optimizations, etc. missing, like CACHE! Also, ImageView inside DownloadImageTask should be held by a WeakReference (Google it) otherwise it WILL leak your activity.
public class DownloadImageTask extends AsyncTask<String, Void, Drawable> {
private static final String TAG = DownloadImageTask.class.getSimpleName();
private ImageView mImageView;
DownloadImageTask(ImageView imageView) {
mImageView = imageView;
}

return fetchDrawable(url[0]);
}
#Override
protected void onPostExecute(Drawable result) {
if (result != null) {
mImageView.setImageDrawable(result);
} else {
Log.w(TAG, "Could download image!");
}
}
public static Drawable fetchDrawable(String url) {
Log.v(TAG, "Downloading: " + url);
InputStream is;
try {
is = (InputStream) new URL(url).getContent();
return Drawable.createFromStream(is, null);
} catch (MalformedURLException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.getMessage(), e);
} catch (IOException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.getMessage(), e);
}
return null;
}
}
Adapter:
public class ImageDownloadAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String>{
public ImageDownloadAdapter(Context context, String[] objects) {
super(context, R.layout.item_image_download, R.id.txt_url, objects);
}
#SuppressLint("NewApi")

Hello fellow developers :)
I've made a very basic image fetcher for Android to download and display bitmaps from the web on my application the code for it is:
public class BitmapFetcher {
private static HashMap<String, SoftReference<Bitmap>> bitmapCache = new HashMap<String, SoftReference<Bitmap>>();
public static Bitmap fetchBitmap(String urlString) {
SoftReference<Bitmap> cachedBitmap = bitmapCache.get(urlString);
if (cachedBitmap != null && cachedBitmap.get() != null) {
return cachedBitmap.get();
}
try {
InputStream is = fetch(urlString);
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(is);
SoftReference<Bitmap> softReferencedBitmap = new SoftReference<Bitmap>(bitmap);
bitmapCache.put(urlString, softReferencedBitmap);
return bitmap;
} catch (MalformedURLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
return null;
}
public static void fetchBitmapAsync(final String urlString, final ImageView view) {
final Handler handler = new Handler() {
public void handleMessage(Message message) {
AsyncImageContainer imageContainer = (AsyncImageContainer) message.obj;
imageContainer.applyImageToView();
}
};
BitmapTaskRunnable asyncImageFetcherTask = new BitmapTaskRunnable(view, urlString, handler);
new Thread(asyncImageFetcherTask).start();
}
public static InputStream fetch(String urlString) throws MalformedURLException, IOException {
Log.d("BitmapFetcher", "fetch: " + urlString);
DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient();
HttpGet request = new HttpGet(urlString);
HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(request);
return response.getEntity().getContent();
}
}
BitmapTaskRunnable.java:
public class BitmapTaskRunnable implements Runnable {
private ImageView imageView;
private String imageUrl;
private Handler handler;
public BitmapTaskRunnable() {
}
public BitmapTaskRunnable(ImageView imageView, String imageUrl, Handler handler) {
setImageView(imageView);
setImageUrl(imageUrl);
setHandler(handler);
}
public void run() {
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFetcher.fetchBitmap(getImageUrl());
AsyncImageContainer imageContainer = new AsyncImageContainer(getImageView(), bitmap);
handler.sendMessage(handler.obtainMessage(0, imageContainer));
}
public ImageView getImageView() {
return imageView;
}
public void setImageView(ImageView imageView) {
this.imageView = imageView;
}
public String getImageUrl() {
return imageUrl;
}
public void setImageUrl(String imageUrl) {
this.imageUrl = imageUrl;
}
public Handler getHandler() {
return handler;
}
public void setHandler(Handler handler) {
this.handler = handler;
}
}
AsyncImageContainer.java:
public class AsyncImageContainer {
private ImageView imageView;
private Bitmap bitmap;
public AsyncImageContainer() {
}
public AsyncImageContainer(ImageView imageView, Bitmap bitmap) {
setImageView(imageView);
setBitmap(bitmap);
}
public void applyImageToView() {
getImageView().setImageBitmap(getBitmap());
}
public ImageView getImageView() {
return imageView;
}
public void setImageView(ImageView imageView) {
this.imageView = imageView;
}
public Bitmap getBitmap() {
return bitmap;
}
public void setBitmap(Bitmap bitmap) {
this.bitmap = bitmap;
}
}
As I said, it's very basic, with a very basic caching and no throttling on threads being created (this is already planned to be done soon).
Well, I'm currently experiencing a weird behavior from this when I need to load images in a ListView, what I did is: I have some classes that extend ArrayAdapter and overrides getView to display my layout, whenever I need an image on it, I will do the following:
BitmapFetcher.fetchBitmapAsync(news.getChannelAvatar(), holder.channelAvatarView);
And this should start make BitmapFetcher start a new thread which will download the bitmap and send a message to the handler to it apply the image to the view (as only the thread which created a view hierarchy can modify it).
Everything is fine for the 2nd to n-th ImageViews in the list, but the 1st result ALWAYS goes crazy, changing to images which have been downloaded until all the images are loaded and it settles to it. Then if I drag the list a little until the 1st result disappears and goes back to the top, it displays the correct image.
This is really bugging me, as I had done a much simpler version of the code (one which the handler handled directly placing the Bitmap in the ImageView, the Runnable did not exist, it was a simple anonymous Thread object with run() overriden, etc) and tried this version thinking that somehow fetchBitmapAsync was losing reference to the correct ImageView or something like that.
Does this happen for some thing that Android does to recycle Views inside a ListView? If not, what could be the reason? Am I being silly somewhere and after a couple days working on this code I've gone blind? :(
Thanks for all the help :D
For all of my lazy image loading I use Prime. It even has an example of how to use it within a ListView.
I have a custom ListView adapter which implements an ImageThreadLoader class. Unfortunately the class doesn't enable a cache option-download the images from the web and save them as cache.
And then I found this LazyList or here really useful, it behaves quite the same like my ImageThreadLoader class but it's able to save the images as cache. So, I want to implement its ImageLoader class to my current custom ListView adapter.
Unfortunately the structure of my codes and the Lazylist's is quite different, resulting some conflicts on my attempts.
For example, the LazyList use array of strings for the image URL, in the other hand I use JSON as the source of image URL.
That's why I need a help here to adapt my ListView adapter to this ImageLoader class.
Here are the codes:
ImageLoader Class which I want implement to my custom ListView adapter:
public class ImageLoader {
//the simplest in-memory cache implementation. This should be replaced with something like SoftReference or BitmapOptions.inPurgeable(since 1.6)
private HashMap<String, Bitmap> cache=new HashMap<String, Bitmap>();
private File cacheDir;
public ImageLoader(Context context){
//Make the background thead low priority. This way it will not affect the UI performance
photoLoaderThread.setPriority(Thread.NORM_PRIORITY-1);
//Find the dir to save cached images
if (android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageState().equals(android.os.Environment.MEDIA_MOUNTED))
cacheDir=new File(android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"Android/data/LazyList");
else
cacheDir=context.getCacheDir();
if(!cacheDir.exists())
cacheDir.mkdirs();
}
final int stub_id=R.drawable.stub;
public void DisplayImage(String url, Activity activity, ImageView imageView)
{
if(cache.containsKey(url))
imageView.setImageBitmap(cache.get(url));
else
{
queuePhoto(url, activity, imageView);
imageView.setImageResource(stub_id);
}
}
private void queuePhoto(String url, Activity activity, ImageView imageView)
{
//This ImageView may be used for other images before. So there may be some old tasks in the queue. We need to discard them.
photosQueue.Clean(imageView);
PhotoToLoad p=new PhotoToLoad(url, imageView);
synchronized(photosQueue.photosToLoad){
photosQueue.photosToLoad.push(p);
photosQueue.photosToLoad.notifyAll();
}
//start thread if it's not started yet
if(photoLoaderThread.getState()==Thread.State.NEW)
photoLoaderThread.start();
}
private Bitmap getBitmap(String url)
{
//I identify images by hashcode. Not a perfect solution, good for the demo.

//from SD cache

return b;
//from web

Now your ProjectAdapter class
import java.util.List;

List<Project> items;
private ImageThreadLoader imageLoader;
LayoutInflater mInflater;
Activity activity;
// Initialize adapter
public ProjectAdapter(Context context, int resource, List<Project> items,

this.resource = resource;
imageLoader = new ImageThreadLoader(context);
this.items = items;
mInflater = (LayoutInflater) context

this.activity = activity;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {

// Inflate the view
if (convertView == null) {

} else {

holder.image.setTag(imageurl);
imageLoader.displayImage(imageurl, activity, holder.image);
return convertView;
}
static class ViewHolder {
TextView textTitle;
ImageView image;
}
And at last when you set the adapter in your ListView after getting the web data, use this
your_listview.setAdapter(your_ProjectAdapter_instance );
your_ProjectAdapter_instance .notifyDataSetChanged();
i do have the sam eproblem of different datatype other than String array but I am using Arraylist(but not JASON) so I do changes in the code of Fedor and below is my implementation, hope this help
LazyAdapter
public LazyAdapter(Activity a, ArrayList<?> mStatus)
{
activity = a;
data = mStatus;
inflater = (LayoutInflater) activity.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
imageLoader = new ImageLoader(activity.getApplicationContext());
}
public int getCount()
{
if(data != null && data.size() > 15)
return data.size();
else
return 15;
}
I found that even if the files in sdcard it doesnt load becuase its checking for that object which goes null if you change the activity on which list is implemented so I changed getBitmap() code also
ImageLoader
private Bitmap getBitmap(String urlString)
{
String filename = String.valueOf(urlString.substring(urlString.lastIndexOf("/") + 1));
File f = new File(cacheDir, filename);
try
{
if(!f.exists())
{
Bitmap bitmap = null;
InputStream is = new URL(urlString).openStream();
OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream(f);
Globals.CopyStream(is, os);
os.close();
bitmap = decodeFile(f);
return bitmap;
}
else
{
Bitmap bitmap = decodeFile(f);
return bitmap;
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
ex.printStackTrace();
BitmapDrawable mDrawable = (BitmapDrawable) context.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.placeholder);
return mDrawable.getBitmap();
}
}
Stackoverflow member Fedor posted some source for a cached ImageLoader in answer to this question. Android - How do I do a lazy load of images in ListView The source is here source. His answer got 100+ upvotes. I found it worked very well caching Flickr images of mine. You should be able to adapt it for your use.
You haven't set the image tag when sending into the lazy loader class.
Bitmap cachedImage = null;
try {
cachedImage = imageLoader.loadImage(pro.smallImageUrl, new ImageLoadedListener() {
public void imageLoaded(Bitmap imageBitmap) {
image.setImageBitmap(imageBitmap);
notifyDataSetChanged(); }
});
} catch (MalformedURLException e) {
Log.e(TAG, "Bad remote image URL: " + pro.smallImageUrl, e);
}
What is private ImageThreadLoader imageLoader = new ImageThreadLoader(); ? Can I see that class?
