Can setDisplayShowTitleEnabled be set in xml to theme an ActionBar? - android

I am trying to theme an ActionBar in xml rather than code. So far I have this:

This is giving me my custom background and I want to be able to turn off the title here as well. In code, I would set setDisplayShowTitleEnabled to false. How do I do it in xml?

ok, here is the answer. Adding this to the second style block above hid the titles.

showHome|useLogo

How to change style of PreferenceThemeOverlay / PreferenceFragmentCompat

I worked myself thru the AndroidFundamtentals Tutorial 09.2 (App Settings) but I couldn't find a working solution for my problem.
I want to change the style (backgroundcolor) of the Settings-Fragment in my app.
That's what I have coded in the styles.xml so far:

This code does not change the background color of the Settings fragment.
If you need more code just write an comment. :)
I just found the solution / mistake.
The parent of the style AppThemeWithActionBar is wrong.
It changes the background to light.
Change the title of the style like this:

Replace the drawable by a color like above and it should go away.
Use the below property in your AppBarLayout
app:elevation="0dp"
Use the below code in your fragment
getSupportActionBar().setElevation(0);
The shadow on the status bar is system set and cannot be removed, however the status bar that you are referring to is inside of Theme.Holo.Light. To my knowledge it cannot be removed.
Hope I have understood your question correctly, that is you want to in a way merge the action bar with the tabs so there is no border in between -> the line or shadow you mentioned. If that is correct, then this is what you are looking for:
Add this to your MyAppTheme:

#style/LineRemover

and change this line:

#null

to this:

true

and then add the following style below:

In the end you have something like this:

I guess you are aware that you have to register your theme in the android manifest (within your activity or application tags:
android:theme="#style/MyAppTheme" >
Please remember to mark this as your accepted answer if this helped you :)
if you set the tab layout elevation Remove.its working fine

android - how to remove ActionBarDivider in Holo theme

I have an Activity with a dark ActionBar. I need to remove its vertical dividers since my icons already have "built-in" dividers.
What I've tried goes below
Activity style:

MyActionBar:

This doesn't have any effect. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
You need to set the android:actionBarStyle attribute as part of the activity theme, not as part of the action bar style.
So I believe this should work:

How to tell where attributes belong? I used to struggle with this too (usually solved by trial-and-error) until I discovered the use of the android.R.styleable class! Have a look here: https://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.styleable.html
If you do a search in the page for actionBarStyle you will see it shows up as Theme_actionBarStyle, meaning it is part of the Theme style (remember there is no technical difference between a theme and a style). If you do a search on ActionBar_ you will be able to iterate through all of the attributes that can be set as part of an ActionBar style.

Android custom theme

Hello I'm making a custom theme for my app. I want to have a custom ActionBar and background for the rest of the app (below the ActionBar). I'm wondering how to do the background. Right now I have:

Would I just have to do <item name-"android:background">
in MyTheme or would I have to create another style? After I create this do I need to put it in the res/styles folder? Also what are the API restrictions on this, if any?
Don't forget to apply your theme to your application in your AndroidManifest.xml.
<application android:theme="#style/CustomActivityTheme" ... />
You can find all the information about styling the Actionbar here.
To style your ActionBar with a nice Holo-look, try this website
Hope this helps!
Try to use below code in your Style.xml file
<resources>

</resources>
Just need to use android:colorBackground as a name of item to define the background color like as below:

#color/primary_material_dark

Hope you get your answer,Thanks.

Styling ActionBar dropdown menu

I'm using a custom theme that inherits from DarkActionBar and I want to customize dropdown menu to be white like when using Light Holo theme.
I've been able to change the background to white using:

But I haven't any clue of how to change the text color to black. Because after setting white drawable the problem is that text isn't visible because is white on white background.
I answer myself after some investigation.
In addition to question's styling you need to:
Customize android:spinnerDropDownItemStyle for actionBarWidgetTheme changing it's text appearance.
Also don't forget that dropdown list is managed by the adapter you use. Then if you used the standard one (simple_dropdown_item_1line) there's no problem. But if you used a custom one like me (to be able to add an icon) don't forget to apply style="?attr/spinnerDropDownItemStyle" in your layout TextView.
Then final custom style is:
<resources xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

Where drawables in myapp_DropDownNav are white background ones that you can generate with ActionBar Style generator in Android Asset Studio
Try setting itemTextAppearance. That should achieve what you want.
I have stumbled on what may be the simplest way to do this. I was working with the AppCompat library.

My advice is to simply inherit from the Sherlock.Light theme and change the applicable fields to the Dark values. For my app, we wanted a white "up" icon, and white text for the action labels. I don't provide dark versions of my actionbar icons, so they are all white anyway. So after several hours messing around with it and following different people's suggestions, I finally found what I was looking for in the ABS themes file.
I inherit from Sherlock.Light (well, technically HoloEverywhereLight.Sherlock but...) and change:

#color/White

#color/White

#drawable/abs__ic_ab_back_holo_dark

#drawable/abs__ic_ab_back_holo_dark

#drawable/abs__list_divider_holo_dark

#drawable/abs__list_divider_holo_dark

That's it. It's way simpler and easier than trying to extend classes, restyle things in code, etc.
