Need to support different screen size and different screen resolutions in android

I was just developing an application in android that works with both phone and tablet.
now the problem i am facing is with the icon sizes, if i am using say 28dp for mdpi devices then i came across one issue. In my office we have one 8inch tablet coming under mdpi and 5 inch phone also in mdpi. so both devices uses the same icon with size 28 dp. How to solve this problem?
Same in the case of text size i am facing the same issue. Is der any solution for this? I hav read many documentation so please dont copy paste urls. Kindly help me with exact solution...

Android Multi screen resolution support

I am developing an android application as generalized UI development for all devices. Now the Scenario is i want to design for 1024 X 768 resolution, where i kept a separate values folder as follows
For landscape -values-sw720dp-xlarge-land.( It is working fine.)
For portrait -values-sw720dp-xlarge-port. But it is not working.
You can follow this How to Support Multiple Screens
I expected you will solve from that.
Best of luck!

I have gone through some other post in stack overflow but i didnt get the exact answer.
Why iam asking this question is, now iam developing an android app ,when i tested that app in a real device(Samsung Galaxy Grand) it's not good to see the app interface, but when i created an emulator with screen configuration of samsung galaxy grand the app interface is perfect as what i need.
Screen Configuration used in emulator
screen Size:5 inch
Resolution :800 x 480
Aspect Ratio: long
Size :normal(also tested large)
Density: hdpi,mdpi
please anyone help in this issue please
Thank you

Working with Android designers

I start developing a new Android application from scratch these days.
The company I work for has its own designer.
The designer asked me for the sizes of screens she should design for and I didn't know what to tell her - I want to support all the Android based smartphones with all the different densities and screen sizes.
I'm familiar with this doc about supprting multiple screens.
Question #1:
So, can I assume that all the smartphones are "normal" screen size, and look at "Table 3" at the bottom of link I've added, at the "Normal screens" row and tell the designer that I need 4 versions of each page, as listed in this row: WQVGA400 (240x400), HVGA (320x480), WVGA800 (480x800) , 640x960 ?
Will these resolutions cover all the Android based smartphones?
Question #2:
While working on the project, the designer might tell me:"the title bar should be 40px long in the 240x400 screen", how can I translate these pixels into dip's? How can I achieve easy daily work when it comes to working with the designer? Should I just develop first only for mdpi, on 320x480 screen where 1 pixel = 1 dip and then no translation is needed?
Thanks in advance!
The new Android Design Guide should give you all information you need.
The transformation between dip and px is based on the type of dpi you have and not on the screen size. Define your own title bar to make sure, that the height is the specified one.
No You should say designer that it's most common values, but not all possible. So, try to get design with comments "1/5 of phone screen and 1/10 for tablet screen" not "40px". Other possible way - to create design for only resolution, and then stretch it to other screens.
This question gives good answer
The answer for the question 1 is no. For instance, Galaxy Nexus has a resolution 1280x720, Droid Razr 960×540.
ANSWER #1: No
ANSWER #2: Have a look at this link to understand a bit more about dip.
I think the iPhone way of doing things doesn't quite work on Android (Limited iPhone experience here but you pretty much have set graphics for everything right?) on Android the designer will probably have to get familiar with the layout system or somebody else would need to take a reference design and translate it into a layout file.

When designing an app for android tablets, are mdpi and dpi the same thing?

I'm a graphic designer and am designing an android app for a client for the first time. Currently my comps are 1280x752 pixels (found these dimensions here: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/08/09/designing-for-android-tablets/) for a 10" tab, however I can't find out what the dimensions should be for the 7" tab?? The client wants to see some of the comps sized down to the 7" size.
I've read through the android developer app and everything is in "mdpi". is that the same as dpi?
Thank you for any assistance!
Android screen design is no straight forward process like for the IPhone for example. Android devices can come in (almost) all densities (XHDPI, HDPI, MDPI, LDPI) and Sizes.
You have to understand the principles of android screen-layouts to understand how to design apps for android. This documentation is a good starting point, also the Android Design Page has a lot to offer.
Or talk directly to the developer which has to turn your design into code - what resolutions does he need etc.
