I want to make 2 quick screenshots for the app am putting in the market.. But problem is when i signed the app for the market i can't transtef it to my phone and install the .apk.. Its not working..
Am using Eclipse. And i can't realy find a way to like make it an .apk that i can install from the phone cus the signed apk seems to not work..
Is there some other way i need to do so i can install this apk ?
And when i signed the app what do i need the certificate for?? When uploading it doesn't say anything about i need it..
Thanks if you can help.

It sounds like you're not signing your application correctly. Have you tried reading this? It's very helpful:

Also, you should be able to just run the application on your phone from Eclipse and take your screenshots using Android SDK's built-in screenshot functionality from the Devices view.

Android: How to not publish an app to Google Play and still be able to let others easily install and test the app?

I created a small Android project during my free time, and I decided to give a group of people I specifically know of to try the app out. The group of people created a forum community where everyone gathers around to share some of their own projects. They usually upload their programs written in C++, Java, C#, and sometimes give out tips to newcomers.
I wrote an app that does bitmap manipulation stuffs, and was hoping that others can easily test the app out without having to go through Google Play market. I just don't want my app to go entirely public to anyone in the market.
I told them that I am going to upload an Android app so they can check my project out. I understood that they are all not Android developers, so they haven't seen anyone in the community upload an Android app onto the forums yet.
So, I started to do a little research on this.
I thought about exporting the project as an unsigned Android app, but a Google search made me realize that unsigned Android app can't be installed onto an Android phone, even with "Unknown sources - Allow installation of non-Market apps" ticked in the Settings -> Security menu.
Another way I tried to do is to self-sign the application. I give the app 1 year before the certification is invalid, signed the app by using the Eclipse -> Export Android application wizard. I uploaded the app, and got notified by one of the group of people that the app can't be installed onto their phone.
This is where I am stuck and now I'm clearly in need of assistence. Is there a way you can upload an Android app onto a forum, let another user download the APK file, and install it onto their phone with no hassle? Just want to keep this testing session in private, if it matters.
Thanks in advance.
An easy way that I use to let users download and test an app is to ask them to do this:
Settings -> Applications -> Unknown Sources -> Tick the Check box
Then export an unsigned APK of your app and make it available to them. An easy way is to upload the APK to dropbox or host it on your website or to just email the file to them. Once they've downloaded the APK, they can just open it and it will install and run.
You can install an unsigned APK file if you tick the option in Settings -> Security menu.
You can upload your apk to GP as alpha-version, publish it and allow test for this peoples.
They will can download this app from GP.

Download/Install Android App from Non-Market Web Server: How?

I'm trying to do a test-download of my first app from a non-Market web server (mine). I placed a signed APK on the server, browsed to it from my Nexus-S browser and clicked. I get a brief message about downloading, but then zilcho, no install, no nothing. And yes, I enabled "Unknown Sources" in the settings. Each time I try this, a small red circle appears at the top-left of my screen with an incrementing number.
Should this work? Am I doing something wrong?
Note: I don't want to use ADB or an App installer program if avoidable (I want to let unsophisticated beta testers install it).
Thanks,
John
I believe this is done by the manufacturer. I've seen it on a few phones.
Try using a different ROM (like cyanogen) if you're rooted.
Well, I figured it out myself (Duh), it was operator error.
The answer is that I didn't understand how download-install works. After downloading APK, I had to go to "Downloads" on my phone and select the file to install. It's all good now.

Can I have the market update an app that was installed from else where?

I'm writing an app and would like users to be able to download the apk and install it from my website. However, I would like the app to still be able to update through the market, is this possible?
I don't believe that it is possible.
You are better off to link them to the market from your website rather than hosting the APK file.
market://search?q=pname:your.package.name
That will open the market on the users phone. It is safer and easier than plugging in the phone and installing over USB.
As far as I know and tested, applications installed using .apk files, will be recognized from the android market. Some games though like Angry Birds, do not appear on my list of installed applications and unfortunately I can't find out why.
But for what is worth the following link will help you more.
http://androidforums.com/application-development/65282-can-you-keep-your-paid-app-updating-illegally-installed-apk.html
This is not possible without apps like Titanium Backup. Titanium Backup can link apps to their market counter-parts but you cannot do it without an app like that (which requires Root).
As i know - it's not possible.
Even if you'll use the same package names and signing certificates.

signing apk with "test/development" key

the way i prepare my app for deployment is by using the Eclipse and exporting the signed APK (as described here).
However, I've gotten reports that my app is not searcheable on the Market with devices that have test/development/unofficial ROM flashed.
Does anyone know how i can make the app visible for all android devices (production and development)?
Thx
Is this what you mean http://developer.android.com/guide/publishing/publishing.html
Alternatively, if you don't want to put it on the market, you can also put it on a website for anyone to download.

How to re-sign an existing android app after modifing it

every one .
now I am in a project upon android system application source code with the Android v 2.1r1 : Contacts .
I have modify the source code and run it on the emulator successfully..
but i get a problem on publishing it to my android phone with the same system version because of without signing it.
how can i do if i want to publish it to my android phone after modifying it?
do i need to resign the Contacts.apk built by mm ?
can i just signing the Contacts.apk built by mm?
thx for your reading and replies !
You do exactly what the title of your post says. Re-sign the app with your own key. Google isn't about to give you theirs. So you need to create your own key and sign your app with it.
If you don't know how to do this, there are a ton of resources/tutorials/walk throughs already on-line.
I suggest starting here
As user432209 said, you will have to resign the package with your own key. It sounds like you might also be having an issue with your version of Contacts conflicting with the version on your phone. If so, you may need to change the package name.
