currently i have difficulties trying to import the lynda.com android app development with java essential training exercise files into eclipse. I keep getting some java errors like this.Can someone help me out with this problem?

here's the error:
The project was not built since its build path is incomplete. Cannot

The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly
referenced from required .class files

A little late on this, however after struggling with the issue myself I found a solution to the problem.
Right Click on the project --> Build Path --> Configure Build Path...
In the 'Source' tab, Select the project eg. 'myProject/src' --> Click OK.
Right Click on the project --> Android Tools --> Fix Project Properties
That should do it!
Have you tried changing your compiler to Java 5 instead of Java 7?
Also make sure that in the project settings that you're using Java 5.

I had the same problem and it was corrected by going to the project preferences(right click project -->preferences). Then go to "java build path" and click on the libraries tab. Look for your JRE lib in the list. In my case the system was unable to find it, but the entry was still there. Delete this and add a new one by clicking "add library" and select JRE System library. Then select the default system lib. Close out of the preferences window and then Right click on your project and go to android tools-->Fix project Properties. Clean your project and try building again.
This works
Project > Properties > Android > change the Build Target

I have an Android project that I've been happily building for weeks in Eclipse Indigo. I have not changed any settings, libraries, or workspace components, or added or removed any files. A few hours ago I was doing a "Run as" to run my app on a phone and Eclipse did a hard hang. I couldn't even kill it in Task Manager so I rebooted my PC.
Now when I try to build my app I get
"The project was not built since its build path is incomplete. Cannot find the class file for java.lang.Object. Fix the build path then try building this project"
I deleted gen and did a clean and build with the same result. In the project Properties for the build path, in the Libraries tab it shows
Android Dependencies
Android Private Libraries
Unable to get system library for the project.
Any idea what's going on? This Eclipse "build path is incomplete" error is very common but when I search Stack Overflow and Google, most of the cases seem to be related to importing new projects, moving workspaces, changing libraries or other things I didn't do.

I fixed my problem.
I did a File>Switch Workspace and switched to another workspace that had a different project in it. Then I switched back to my original workspace and everything was fine.
So we can add this to the very long list of folk-remedies, nostrums, old-wives-tales, superstitions and other bits of software lore that accompany the various weird bugs that afflict Eclipse. I sure hope Android Studio turns out to be better than this!
This worked for me:
Open project properties > Java Build Path > Libraries.
Select "Unable to get system library..." > Remove > OK.
Open Libraries again > Add Library > "Android Classpath Container" > Next > Finish > OK.
The following worked for me, so I thought I would share.
Restarted Eclipse and ran into the same problem.
Did the following to get my project to build again.
Right click on project inside Package Explorer and Select properties.
Go to Java Build Path.
Click on Libraries TAB
Remove the line that says "Unable to get system library for the project"
select ok.
Then right click on project, and select "Android Tools" -> "Fix Project Properties."
Hope this helps.... eclipse can be a real PITA sometimes.
BTW I "watched" for any changes after the delete and fix, and it looks like
Is removed from .classpath, and then the "Fix Project Properties" adds the line right back.
Clean + Build works after that.
The resolution was to force a resave of the selected projects (and their .classpath files):
Open the project properties
Select Java Build Path > Libraries
Add a new, arbitrary library (to be deleted later) > OK
Wait for the workspace to refresh (or force a refresh of the project)
The error(s) will go away
Remove the dummy library
Try Project-->Clean. Also make sure "Build Automatically" is checked
I am trying to run a project but there is a red exclamation mark over the project name. When checked in Problems, its throwing an error "project is missing required library". The library is pointed to android.jar located in some path. When checked in package explorer, I found the android.jar in Android 2.3.1 folder structure of project in package explorer. The android.jar located in Android 2.3.1 folder is pointing to some other path. Is the build error occurring due to the difference in paths for android.jar files? I have imported the project.So, how should I modify the path which is shown in the problems window? I am newbie to android and so pls help me.

The easiest way to resolve this common problem is to re-associate your project with an SDK version. You do this by opening project properties, clicking on Android, select a different SDK version to that which is currently selected (if one is selected at all), click okay, and then repeat the process to switch back to the desired SDK version, if desired.
I tried Phillip's answer and it didn't work in my case. Another place to look is opening project properties and clicking on "Java Build Path" -- if your project used some external JARs, check to make sure the links haven't been broken. If they have, reimport them again and remove the missing ones.
Import your library through the option: File/ Import... / Android / Existing Android Code Into Workspace, and not by creating a New Project and referencing the other (if you did this way).

While trying to add android source to eclipse, I am getting the following errors.

FYI, I have built the source successfully with full_maguro-userdebug configuration (for Galaxy Nexus) before adding this to eclipse. Since I couldn't find "create project from existing source" in Eclipse Indigo, I changed the location of the project to the root directory of the source. I refreshed the project several times with same error.
How to solve this issue?
You should go to Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path.
There open tab Libraries.
In this tab out/target/common/obj/JAVA_LIBRARIES/google-common_intermediates/javalib.jar should be changed to out/target/common/obj/JAVA_LIBRARIES/android-common_intermediates/javalib.jar by selecting javalib.jar from google-common_intermediates, pressing Edit and selecting instead android-common_intermediates.
Entry with gsf-client_intermediates javalib.jar can be simply deleted.

I would not recommend using eclipse for android source. Android is not a single project and it too big for an IDE like eclipse to handle.
Use simpler plain text editors like vim, emacs to browse the code
i am trying to build an android application in eclipse. My issue in detail is as follows:
I first setup the sdk and adt plugin along with the svn for eclipse.
Then I imported an existing svn trunk from (File->Import->Checkout projects from SVN).
Then I face the following errors:
a. Project has no default.properties file! Edit the project properties to set one.
b. None of import files are being resolved. It includes java.io, and all the basic java classes. I checked the Compiler Compliance level too.. It is set to 1.6
c. When I check into project properties for the issue, under Java Build Path: I find "Build path is entry missing: Projectname/gen"
Then in the libraries tab i find: "Unable to get System Library for the project".
It would be really nice if some one can throw some light on this issue. plz let me know if u need any more description.

Did you check out .classpath and .project files from svn to? My usual scenario is to checkout files from version control and then Create New Project->Android-> Create from existing sources.Usually it works OK.
I created a Hello world app but get this strange error:
The project cannot be built until the build path errors are resolved
I haven't changed the project, jut created it and tried to run it.
to avoid that annoying problem i have 3 solutions that worked for me.
Solution 1)
delete your generated R.java file
inside your gen/ folder
Solution 2)
a)Delete your project from Eclipse
(i said ONLY from Eclipse, uncheck option: Delete project
contents on disk)
b) import your project to Eclipse:
file > Import > Existing Projects into
Workspace (Look for your project
previously deleted from Eclipse) >
Finish.
Solution 3)
make Solution 1 then Solution 2
It is either a spurious message you can solve by forcing Eclipse to recompute its library paths
I found the resolution for this at Scott D. Strader's blog.
To summarize the solution I only needed to add a library to my project and then remove it to force Eclipse to perform the necessary actions to resolve the problem. I would post the detailed steps here but I don't want to steal his content.
The resolution was to force a resave of the selected projects (and their .classpath files):

Or you actually miss one critical library like a JRE library:
I needed to add the JRE library to the project for it to run. Not sure if this was due to the updated version or something else…. Any way this fixed the issue:
Project > Properties
Java Build Path
Libraries tab
Click add library
Select JRE System Library
Next
Finish
Sounds like you are missing an import or a jar. In your project in the project explorer there should be a red x on the file icon that contains the error.
In addition to the listed answers, there is one other scenario I've seen this error appear when using the sample projects included with the Android SDK. For some reason, the generated R.java file can be invalid or corrupt. You can get around it by expanding the "gen" folder in the Package Explorer and deleting the R.java file. It will immediately get regenerated and the error goes away.
Right click on your project, choose "Build Path", "Configure Build Path" -> and choose Android 2.2, or that target you specified when you created your project
I have had similar issues. for me simply closing the emulator and re-running the project works
