Programmatically enable/disable market auto-update - android

I've seen some applications that automatically install with auto-update ticket, while most don't.
Unfortunately I haven't had much success with finding details on this so I don't have much to offer in the way of explaining what I tried.
How is this accomplished?

Its up to the user, you can't control that as a developer. Also, the auto update won't work if the permissions have changed.

Delete unpublished app from devices who have it installed (Android)

We unpublished an Android-app from the Google play-store. We still see that it is installed on 500+ devices. Is there a way to remove it from these devices? If not, is there a way to show people who open the app a message?
If for both questions the answer is no, what would be the way to go?
Br.
Sorry, the answer would be no for the first aspect of the question and a maybe no for the second aspect of the question. The thing is that if you have some kind of connectivity in your app, i.e. some type of way to communicate with your users built by you, then you could use that channel to communicate whatever you desire. If not, well then you can't force them to uninstall the app. They got the app when it was available, and you've got no control over what apps a person has on their phone, even if you made that app.
Best of luck.

Is it possible to ask confirmation before uninstall android app?

I'm relatively new to Android. I'm making an app that need to ask a password before uninstall without rooting the phone, but after a lot of research i understood that this is not possible (correct me if i'm wrong). Now i'm trying to understand if it is possible to show a tab or anything else which asks confirmation before uninstalling my app. I'm almost sure it is not possible, but I'm asking here because maybe some more experienced user can help me.
I'm using API level 21+.
If my question is not clear or more information is required tell me and I will update this question.
Thanks for the help.
It's impossible. The uninstall operation is being performed by the Android system and there's no way to influence the way it performs this task. If this would be possible, everyone would do it and it would cause nothing, but annoyed users.
Its not possible however I did look at this question. I believe this is a possible solution to the problem?
If you can just make a popup window and let the user accept/decline the install/uninstall operation?
install / uninstall APKs programmatically (PackageManager vs Intents)

Can I force a user to upgrade my app in Android and iOS?

We have project requirement where we need to force the user to upgrade the app in android and iOS both. And the application we have developed using the Hybrid technology phonegap + dojo.
I have few question with respect to that
Is it possible to make the user upgrade the app as soon as he opens the application
If yes then is there any API's available to perform this task in Android and iOS.
Is there any restriction from Apple and Android to make user upgrade forcefully.
Please can anyone help me in this. thanks a lot.
There is no API for this, but you can create a service that returns the version number of the latest allowed app or something to that effect, that can get checked on application launch and if it does not match you can ask the users to update.
I'm not sure if Apple/Google have any restrictions on this, but I've worked on a project that does this and there weren't any issues on either platform.
The only catch here is that if you already have an app in store then this might not be so feasible.
So to answer your questions:
No
No
Not 100% certain, but I don't think so.
Not if they don't want to. With mobile devices some people are sensitive about rationing out their limited bandwidth so there would be a small uproar if this was allowed.
It may be a bit late now if your app has already left the stable, but would it not be more user friendly for your app to check for updates and gently inform the user that if they do not update then the app will not be able to function until they do. If a user truly doesn't care about that sort of thing there are settings on there device to allow updates automaticly

How can an app enable "Allow Automatic Updating" in the Android market

I noticed that some apps like Google Maps, Facebook for Android etc. (all preloaded BTW), have their "Allow Automatic Updates" check box checked without me doing so.
Is it possible for preloaded apps only?
How can I achieve that with my app?
The user has to explicitly check this option. I don't think there is any API to do this from the app.
You could, after asking the user if he wants to (say, in a dialog box), take him to your app's market page, so that he can check it.
I found this post from google groups that may help you:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/e5e77d5d8f05f8d5?pli=1
It explains how this feature works. Hope this helps!
Users can opt to allow an app to be auto-updated by the Market.
However, if the permissions for the app have changed, it does not work. The user must manually update and agree to the new permissions. After that, it will continue to auto-update.
That's pretty much it.

Publishing an app on android market without download permission

Is there anyway of deploying an app on android market without letting people download it ? Something like the Apple Store behavior of blocking the download of the app until the release date or owner's will.
Thanks.
It filters market results based on the type of device you have. Maybe you could set some of the things in the manifest in such a combination that a device that meets those requirements doesn't exist yet. That might filter your app out of all of the market search results. But I don't even know if that is possible, and when you wanted to "activate" it so that people could download it you'd have to upload an update with a new manifest. So it seems like you might as well just not upload it until you are ready. Why are you interested in having it set up this way?
