Cannot display SQLite database items in custom ListView - android

I am getting the data from sqlite database and trying to display it in CustomeListView But it is displaying some items example i can see six items in my listView at a time then it is showing six items when i scroll it, it will repeatedly show same items HERE IS MY CODE
Here i am querying from database
public ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase> emails_From_Database() {
SQLiteDatabase db = helper.getReadableDatabase();
try {
GetEmailFromDatabase gefd;
ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase> results = new ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase>();
Cursor c = db.rawQuery("select * from Emailreceived", null);
if (c.getCount() > 0) {
int i=0;
c.moveToPosition(i);
do {
gefd = new GetEmailFromDatabase();
gefd.setMessage_No(c.getInt(c.getColumnIndex("_Id")));
gefd.setFrom(c.getString(c.getColumnIndex("EmailFrom")));
gefd.setDate(c.getString(c.getColumnIndex("EmailDate")));
gefd.setSubject(c.getString(c.getColumnIndex("Subject")));
results.add(gefd);
gefd = null;
i++;
} while (c.moveToPosition(i));
c.close();
}
return results;
} finally {
if (db != null)
db.close();
}
}
This is my listActivity with custom list
public class Email_listActivity extends MenuOptions{
//Database getEmails = new Database(getApplicationContext());
String items[]={"red","white","Black","green","brown","yellow","blue","pink","orange"};
Database database;
String mData;
ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase> emailResults;
Database db1;
private EmailListFeedAdapter emailListFeedAdapter;
#Override

super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

}
}
}
#Override

super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id);
int pos = position;
String s = (String) ((TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.item_number)).getText();
database = new Database(getApplicationContext());
mData = database.getDate(s);
Intent i = new Intent(Email_listActivity.this, EmailWebView.class);
i.putExtra("webData", mData);

}
public void getResults(){

emailResults = new ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase>();
//ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase> fromdatabase = db1.emails_From_Database();
emailResults = db1.emails_From_Database();
}
public class EmailListFeedAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<GetEmailFromDatabase>{
private ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase> itemss;
public EmailListFeedAdapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId, ArrayList<GetEmailFromDatabase> items) {
super(context, textViewResourceId, items);
this.itemss = items;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View emailView, ViewGroup parent) {
if(emailView == null){
LayoutInflater inflater= (LayoutInflater)getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
emailView= inflater.inflate(R.layout.email_listview_row, null);
GetEmailFromDatabase o = itemss.get(position);
if(o!=null){
TextView messageNo = (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.item_number);
TextView subject= (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_txt_partofemail);
TextView sender= (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_txt_sender);
TextView datetime= (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_txt_datetime);
ImageView icon= (ImageView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_icon_indicator);
icon.setImageResource(R.drawable.y_icon);
if(messageNo!=null){
messageNo.setText(Integer.toString(o.getMessage_No()));
}
if(subject!=null){
subject.setText(o.getSubject());
}
if(sender!=null){
sender.setText(o.getFrom());
}
if(datetime!=null){
datetime.setText(o.getDate());
}
}
}
return emailView;
}
}
}

Ok, can you replace your adapter class's getView() method with mine,
#Override
public View getView(int position, View emailView, ViewGroup parent) {
if(emailView == null){
LayoutInflater inflater= (LayoutInflater)getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
emailView= inflater.inflate(R.layout.email_listview_row, null);
}
GetEmailFromDatabase o = itemss.get(position);
if(o!=null){
TextView messageNo = (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.item_number);
TextView subject= (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_txt_partofemail);
TextView sender= (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_txt_sender);
TextView datetime= (TextView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_txt_datetime);
ImageView icon= (ImageView)emailView.findViewById(R.id.emaillistrow_icon_indicator);
icon.setImageResource(R.drawable.y_icon);
if(messageNo!=null){
messageNo.setText(Integer.toString(o.getMessage_No()));
}
if(subject!=null){
subject.setText(o.getSubject());
}
if(sender!=null){
sender.setText(o.getFrom());
}
if(datetime!=null){
datetime.setText(o.getDate());
}
}
return emailView;
}
after replacing let me know what happen..

Get the id from listview when an item is clicked

I have a column in the database _id I would like to get this id when an list view item is clicked. Currently the code below is giving me the position of the item. I' am still playing around with it I have a feeling something is wrong in the method 'getItemId'
onCreate method
ArrayList<String> arrayCatNames = new ArrayList<String>();
String query = "SELECT * FROM category ORDER BY name ASC";
Cursor results = myDB.rawQuery(query, null);
while(results.moveToNext()){
String catName = results.getString(results.getColumnIndex("name"));
arrayCatNames.add(catName);
}
String[] catNamesArr = new String[arrayCatNames.size()];
catNamesArr = arrayCatNames.toArray(catNamesArr);
lvActivityCategory = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.lvActivityCategory);
lvActivityCategory.setAdapter(new categoryCursorAdaptor(this, catNamesArr));
lvActivityCategory.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
Intent intent = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), categoryActivity.class);
intent.putExtra("category_id", id);
Context context = getApplicationContext();
String s = Long.toString(position);
CharSequence text = s;
int duration = Toast.LENGTH_SHORT;
Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, text, duration);
toast.show();
}
});
categoryCursorAdaptor
class categoryCursorAdaptor extends BaseAdapter {
Context context;
String[] data;
private static LayoutInflater inflater = null;
public categoryCursorAdaptor(Context context, String[] data) {
this.context = context;
this.data = data;
inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return data.length;
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
return data[position];
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
return position;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View vi = convertView;
if (vi == null) vi = inflater.inflate(R.layout.item_category, null);
TextView text = (TextView) vi.findViewById(R.id.itemListCategory);
text.setText(data[position]);
return vi;
}
}
ArrayList<String> arrayCatNames = new ArrayList<String>();
ArrayList<Integer> arrayIds = new ArrayList<Integer>();
String query = "SELECT * FROM category ORDER BY name ASC";
Cursor results = myDB.rawQuery(query, null);
while(results.moveToNext()){
String catName = results.getString(results.getColumnIndex("name"));
int Ids = results.getInt(results.getColumnIndex("_id"));
arrayCatNames.add(catName);
arrayIds.add(Ids);
}
Then in your onItemClick
yourCategoryId = arrayIds.get(position);
You need to declare your ArrayList arrayIds at the top, before your onCreate

Passing data in from list to detail view in Android

I have a list view populated threw an SQlitedatabase but I need to pass to a detail activity from the list view. The problem is in passing the details from the listview activity to the detail activity because when I click the detail activity it gives me blank edit texts
Here is my listview activity:
public class consulter_note extends Activity implements AdapterView.OnItemClickListener{
ListView list;
SQLiteDatabase sqLiteDatabase;
DataBaseOperationstwo dataBaseOperationstwo;
Cursor cursor;
ListDataAdapter listDataAdapter;
String titre,objet;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_consulter_note);
list = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.listView);
listDataAdapter = new ListDataAdapter(getApplicationContext(),R.layout.notelist_row);
list.setAdapter(listDataAdapter);
list.setOnItemClickListener(this);
dataBaseOperationstwo = new DataBaseOperationstwo(getApplicationContext());
sqLiteDatabase = dataBaseOperationstwo.getReadableDatabase();
cursor = dataBaseOperationstwo.getInformations(sqLiteDatabase);
if (cursor.moveToFirst())
{
do
{
titre = cursor.getString(0);
objet = cursor.getString(1);
DataProvider dataProvider = new DataProvider(titre,objet);
listDataAdapter.add(dataProvider);
}while (cursor.moveToNext());
}
}
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
Intent intent = new Intent(this, note_details.class);
startActivity(intent);
intent.putExtra("titre", titre);
intent.putExtra("objet", objet);
}
}
And here is my array adapter:
public class ListDataAdapter extends ArrayAdapter{
List list = new ArrayList();
public ListDataAdapter(Context context, int resource) {
super(context, resource);
}
static class LayoutHandler
{
TextView TITRE,OBJET;
}
#Override
public void add(Object object) {
super.add(object);
list.add(object);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return list.size();
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
return list.get(position);
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View row = convertView;
LayoutHandler layoutHandler;
if (row == null)
{
LayoutInflater layoutInflater = (LayoutInflater) this.getContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
row = layoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.notelist_row,parent,false);
layoutHandler = new LayoutHandler();
layoutHandler.TITRE = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.titredemo);
layoutHandler.OBJET = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.objetdemo);
row.setTag(layoutHandler);
}
else
{
layoutHandler = (LayoutHandler) row.getTag();
}
DataProvider dataProvider = (DataProvider) this.getItem(position);
layoutHandler.TITRE.setText(dataProvider.getTitre());
layoutHandler.OBJET.setText(dataProvider.getObjet());
return row;
}
}
The data provider class used in the array adapter:
public class DataProvider {
private String titre,objet;
public DataProvider(String titre,String objet)
{
this.titre = titre;
this.objet = objet;
}
public String getTitre() {
return titre;
}
public void setTitre(String titre) {
this.titre = titre;
}
public String getObjet() {
return objet;
}
public void setObjet(String objet) {
this.objet = objet;
}
}
And finally my details activity. I'm only interested in the intent part; the rest has nothing to do with my problem:
public class note_details extends Activity {
ImageButton Del;
EditText PASSTITRE,USEROBJET;
String Passtitre,Userobjet;
DataBaseOperationstwo DOP;
Context CTX = this;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
Intent intent =getIntent();
if(intent != null)
{
String objet = intent.getStringExtra("objet");
String titre= intent.getStringExtra("titre");
PASSTITRE.setText(objet);
USEROBJET.setText(objet);
}
setContentView(R.layout.activity_note_details);
Del = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.suppnote);
PASSTITRE = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.titree);
USEROBJET = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.objett);
Del.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
Passtitre = PASSTITRE.getText().toString();
Userobjet = USEROBJET.getText().toString();
DOP = new DataBaseOperationstwo(CTX);
DOP.deleteNote(DOP,Passtitre,Userobjet);
Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(),"note supprimé",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
finish();
}
});
}
public void liste(View v)
{
Intent i = new Intent(this, consulter_note.class);
startActivity(i);
}
public void supprimer(View v)
{
}
}
My logcat doesn’t show any errors but the details activity shows with empty edittexts.
You should first add extras to the Intent and then fire it:
Intent intent = new Intent(this, note_details.class);
intent.putExtra("titre", titre);
intent.putExtra("objet", objet);
startActivity(intent);
Another thing worth mentioning is that you should avoid doing DB queries on the main thread, as it will slow down your app. Use Loaders, or just run queries on worker threads.

setting text view according its position of the row a listview filled by SimpleCursorAdapter database with click on the row

setting the text view according its position in of the row a list view filled from SimpleCursorAdapter from database on the click of the onlistitemclicked
my custom list view has an image& textview for a name and another invisible text view which will be visible and be setting with a different number on the row clicked only but the problem is that when i clicked any row the text appeared on the view at the first row only whatever the row i clicked
and I tried to use the set and get methods but i found its used for the Base Adapter.
and the textview which will visible is not from data base
can some one tell me how to do it please

I believe what you need to do is use the Tag facility of the row view container to identify the textview it contains and then retrieve it in the listener to identify the correct textview. The way I've done it is to use a holder for the row contained views, so you can access any that you need. For example:
protected static class RowViewHolder {
public TextView tvOne;
public TextView tvTwo;
}
Then in your newView method, populate the holder and set the Tag to it:
public View newView(Context context, Cursor cursor, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext());
View retView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.single_row_item, parent, false);
RowViewHolder holder = new RowViewHolder();
holder.tvOne = (TextView) retView.findViewById(R.id.name);
holder.tvTwo = (TextView) retView.findViewById(R.id.txt_number);
retView.setTag(holder);
return retView;
}
In your listener then you can access the correct textview:
public void onClick(View v) {
ListView lv = (ListView) v.getParent();
final int position = lv.getPositionForView((View) v.getParent());
// get the RowViewHolder
RowViewHolder holder = new RowViewHolder();
holder = (RowViewHolder) ((View) v.getParent()).getTag();
if(holder.tvOne.getVisibility() == View.INVISIBLE ) {
holder.tvOne.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
else
{
holder.tvOne.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
}
}
Apologies, but I've not been able to test this code but I hope it gives you a pointer to the process. You shouldn't need the RowViewHolder but I've included it so you or others can see how to access multiple views within the row.
You may find the this video helpful The World of ListView I think you'll find the relevant discussion at about 4:10 in which describes how the views are res-used and how index, position etc. relate.
I also found one of the answers to this question helpful Android: ListView elements with multiple clickable buttons
There are multiple ways of doing this. The way I was suggesting assumes you have a single code module for the activity containing the CustConAdpterSelect class. So the structure looks something like this.
package com.example.totastest;
// imports
public class Copy_2_of_MainActivity extends Activity {
protected static class RowViewHolder
{
public TextView tvOne;
public TextView tvTwo;
}
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
public class CustConAdpterSelect extends SimpleCursorAdapter

getting listview row data

I have a listview in my application.I want to set the value of textview in that particular row when I click one of the textview in that row itself.so,I tried like below
likes.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
TextView t=(TextView)v;
TextView likesnumber1 = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.likesnumber);
int i= Integer.parseInt(likescount.get(position));
if(like_or_ulike.get(position).equals("Like")){
Log.e("inlike","like");
like_or_ulike.set(position, "Unlike");
t.setText(like_or_ulike.get(position));
UrltoValue.getValuefromUrl("https://graph.facebook.com/"+objectid.get(position)+"/likes?access_token="+accesstoken+"&method="+"post");
j=i+1;
String s=Integer.toString(j);
likescount.set(position, s);
likesnumber1.setText(likescount.get(position));
}
else{
Log.e("unlike","unlike");
like_or_ulike.set(position, "Like");
t.setText(like_or_ulike.get(position));
UrltoValue.getValuefromUrl("https://graph.facebook.com/"+objectid.get(position)+"/likes?access_token="+accesstoken+"&method="+"DELETE");
j=i-1;
String s=Integer.toString(j);
likescount.set(position, s);
likesnumber1.setText(likescount.get(position));
}
}
});
the "likes" reference which I used is textview and I want to set the textview by getting the id of that particular row.
TextView likesnumber1 = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.likesnumber);
when I use this I am getting the id of the first visible row of the screen.
How can I get the id of textview of that particular row,on a textview click.
Thanks
I'm not sure how you are populating your list with data, however here is a method I use that works very well.
Data Models
public class Publication {
public String string1;
public String string2;
public Publication() {
}
public Publication(String string1, String string2) {
this.string1= string1;
this.string2= string2;
}
}
Create an array adapter
public class ContactArrayAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<ContactModel> {
private static final String tag = "ContactArrayAdapter";
private static final String ASSETS_DIR = "images/";
private Context context;
//private ImageView _emotionIcon;
private TextView _name;
private TextView _email;
private CheckBox _checkBox;
private List<ContactModel> contactModelList = new ArrayList<ContactModel>();
public ContactArrayAdapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId,
List<ContactModel> objects) {
super(context, textViewResourceId, objects);
this.context = context;
this.contactModelList = objects;
}
public int getCount() {
return this.contactModelList.size();
}
public ContactModel getItem(int index) {
return this.contactModelList.get(index);
}
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
View row = convertView;
if (row == null) {
// ROW INFLATION
Log.d(tag, "Starting XML Row Inflation ... ");
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) this.getContext()
.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
row = inflater.inflate(R.layout.contact_list_entry, parent, false);
Log.d(tag, "Successfully completed XML Row Inflation!");
}
// Get item
final ContactModel contactModel = getItem(position);
Resources res = this.getContext().getResources();
//Here are some samples so I don't forget...
//
//_titleCount = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.category_count);
// _category.setText(categories1.Category);
//
//if (categories1.Category.equals("Angry")) {
//Drawable angry = res.getDrawable(R.drawable.angry);
//_emotionIcon.setImageDrawable(angry);
//}
_checkBox = (CheckBox) row.findViewById(R.id.contact_chk);
_email = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.contact_Email);
_name = (TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.contact_Name);
//Set the values
_checkBox.setChecked(contactModel.IsChecked);
_email.setText(contactModel.Email);
_name.setText(contactModel.Name);
_checkBox.setOnClickListener(new CompoundButton.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
if (contactModel.IsChecked) {
contactModel.IsChecked = false;
notifyDataSetChanged();
}
else {
contactModel.IsChecked = true;
notifyDataSetChanged();
}
}
});
return row;
}
}
Use the array adapter to fill your list
ContactArrayAdapter contactArrayAdapter;
//
List<ContactModel> contactModelList;
//Fill list with your method
contactModelList = getAllPhoneContacts();
//
contactArrayAdapter = new ContactArrayAdapter(getApplicationContext(), R.layout.contact_list_entry, contactModelList);
//
setListAdapter(contactArrayAdapter);
A sample method to fill data:
public List<ContactModel> getAllPhoneContacts() {
Log.d("START","Getting all Contacts");
List<ContactModel> arrContacts = new Stack<ContactModel>();
Uri uri = ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Email.CONTENT_URI;
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(uri, new String[] {ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Email.DATA1
,ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.DISPLAY_NAME
,ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone._ID}, null , null, ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.DISPLAY_NAME + " ASC");
cursor.moveToFirst();
while (cursor.isAfterLast() == false)
{
String email= cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Email.DATA));
String name = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.DISPLAY_NAME));
int phoneContactID = cursor.getInt(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone._ID));
if (email != null)
{
ContactModel contactModel = new ContactModel();
contactModel.Name = name;
contactModel.Email = email;
contactModel.IsChecked = false;
arrContacts.add(contactModel);
}
cursor.moveToNext();
}
cursor.close();
cursor = null;
Log.d("END","Got all Contacts");
return arrContacts;
}
Accessing the data on click
final ListView lv = getListView();
lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true);
//Click handler for listview
lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View view, int position, long id) {
ContactModel contact= getItem(position);//This gets the data you want to change
//
some method here tochange set data
contact.email = "new#email.com"
//send notification
contactArrayAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
}
});

My ListView consist an ImageView and a TextView i need to get the Text from the TextView

My ListView consist an ImageView and a TextView I need to get the Text from the TextView.
int the position of my list where I press (onItemClick).
How can I do that?
The 1 class have a Button then when you press I moving to the next activity (CountryView)
and expect to get back from the next activity with a text (name of the selected Country)
The 2 classes have a ListView (ImageView and TextView) the data is getting from a database and showing on the ListView.
My problem is to get back to the 1 class the selected name of the country.
Thanks so much for helping!!!

When you add things to the list, you can add hashmaps to the arraylist which the adapter looks at. Then you can grab the values which are name value pairs.
I think you want to get the position of the list you clicked, Its simple you can use OnItemClickListener as follows
YourList.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener(){
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2,
long arg3) {
int position=arg2;
// where position is the clicked position
} }
If you stored your data in String array pass this position say array[position] to string array you can get the Text..
