I'am trying to add an open source action bar (https://github.com/johannilsson/android-action bar) to my project and all you have to do is import the action bar project to eclipse then go to the tool bar Then Project > Properties > Android and when ever I click the android tab at the side eclipse closes can you tell me why? and how to fix it please and thank you.
Duplicate of this question: Eclipse freeze accessing project -> properties -> android tab
The gist of it is, select another category first before Android, resize the window, and then select Android. Seems like it's a common bug

I want to analyze memory consumption in my device but I didn't find Android profiler tab in Android Studio as seen below :
Please who could help me to show up this tab.
If you take a look at top menu you will see a profile icon click it and it will start your app with profile attached. See the below screenshot to get the idea.
The perfect tip for Android Studio:
When you need to find something, write it in the help tab, like this:
If you know what you're looking for, you will find it there :)
I have faced this problem too. Here is the solution. You have to enable Android Facet for specific project. Go to File → Project Structure and the select 'Facets'. Click on the + button and Add 'Android'. In Choose Module pop up select your project and Click 'OK' and then click 'Apply'
You can now find Profiler tab in bottom menu and also from View -> Tool Windows
The Profile option won't show up in tab until we build and run latest code of our branch.
Just run again and Profile option would show up.
When I open up Android Studio and click on new project this comes up...
How do I get it back to ask me to enter Application name etc. ?
Also, if I reopen a project the dropdown doesn't show Android view like it did before.
The dropdown now shows Scratches, Project Files, Problems etc. No Android.
Can someone help?
Thanks a lot!
Try to go through the File menu, select New Project. The Create New Project screen appears.
The project tab you're clicking is actually the "display mode" of your project structure.
More info about it here.
I have tried Window -> Show View -> Project Explorer but nothing happens. Any ideas ?
Not really a solution, but alternatively you could try using Package Explorer view. It shows the same information than Project Explorer, but a little more organized imho.
EDIT
Buttons in the tab below could help.
EDIT 2
The problem was actually that the bottom Pane was maximized. Double-clicking one of its tabs solved the issue.
Check the left side of the IDE and look for a folder icon. You may have acidentally minimized the Project Explorer.
I renamed a project in Eclipse via 'Refactor > Rename' as suggested in this answer.
I now want to rename it again, but the Refactor menu has only one menu item now (Android > Extract Android String...) which is also greyed out!
I am using Eclipse 3.6.1 with the latest Android SDK 9.
Why is that and how to I restore this to normal?
Update (1): After following Sankar Ganesh's suggestion (selecting a string), the Refactor menu appeared again. I then selected the Rename... menu item again and I received the following error message box:
This is much better than the previous situation, in which I had no idea why the Refactor menu had been disabled and what to do. Still, I don't understand why this is and what rules I should follow when using the Refactor function. I only wanted to rename a project... that's all. :)
Update (2): I just tried the same exact operation again again (Refactor > Rename while the project is selected in Project Explorer) and it worked! (without issuing the message box shown above).
What's going on?
Must be a bug, because this is clearly inconsistent.
I was wonder, why you struggling for Renaming a project,
if you want to rename your project, then simply you can select your project, then click refactor menu, then Rename, that's it
step1:
Step2: Now see My project name is updated, initally it was friend finder, now friendfinderupdated
Also , you can use Extract Android String for Valid Java Identifiers and not for packages and files, because see window here
Pls select a String in your java code and do that Refactor -> Android -> Extract Android String, now you can see dialog, what i had shown below
and see next image
Mystery solved!
The problem turned out to be that I was trying to 'Refactor > Rename' while in the Resource perspective.
Once I switched to the Java perspective, this (inconsistent) behavior didn't repeat itself and I was even able to check the Update references checkbox.
Wow!
(thanks #Sankar Ganesh for posting the snapshots, because that allowed me to notice that there is an "Update references" checkbox and that the text on your caption bar is different than mine)
I have two system that I've installed Eclipse (3.6) and the Android development tools (SDK, ADT). They both have the same versions. However, on one system, under the File -> New menu, there are Android specific items - New Android Project, New Android XML file. But on the other, those specific menu items are not there. Yes, I can get to the items by choosing File -> New -> Project, then in the dialog pick Android Project, but was wondering why I don't have the specific items.
I've tried reinstalling Eclipse and the Android items, but the menu items just don't match.
Anyone more familiar with Eclipse and it's add-ons like Android have any idea? (Both system do have the "Open Android AVD and SDK" item under the window menu, FWIW)
Thanks.
I was able to restore the missing items in File | New... quite easily by performing the following steps:
Switch to the Java perspective, either via the perspective switcher toolbar at the top right of the main Eclipse window, or via the Window | Open Perspective menu item.
Reset the perspective by either right-clicking on the Java perspective icon in the perspective switcher toolbar, or by clicking Window | Reset Perspective...
As to why they weren't there in the first place, the most likely cause would be that the ADT contributes various things to the Java perspective, and these changes don't take effect until the perspective is reset after installing the ADT. As an Eclipse plug-in developer I learned it the hard way, that changes to perspectives don't get picked up unless you explicitly reset them.
Yes, seems this menu has a habit of disappearing, some sort of bug in Eclipse perspectives changing themselves.
Fix: In Eclipse click the Window menu and then "Customise Perspective". In the Customise Perspective dialog click the "Command Groups Availability" and then tick the "Android SDK and AVD Manager". Done.
Wouldn't it appear on the menu after you create the first Android project ?
When Resetting Perspective and neither Customize Perspective does`t work, you can delete config file responsible for this.
Just delete file workingsets.xml (resp. workbench.xml) in...\workspace.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.ui.workbench\
