I've got a question about how to define this really simple layout:
I'd like to use Relative Layouts but I'd need the B height to fill all the height that A leaves.
I'm trying to do a layout that suits for all the resolutions, so I cannot specify px or dp in the xml layout definition.
Ideally, I don't wanna use the wrap content property for height because B is a ListView.
Is there any solution at all?

Then you should do more than one XML file, else it's impossible to have 1 perfect layout for all devices, except Height of A is fixed

I'd like the OK / Cancel buttons to be anchored at the bottom (even when there's more items on the list that can be shown on the screen). Here's what it currently looks like:

I followed the guidelines I read on http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/layout/relative.html
I tried this answer - https://stackoverflow.com/a/6285438/168719 - it hasn't helped me.
I suspected that it might not work because the list view doesn't "know" how tall it is, so the button layout doesn't know where to place itself, either. But I ruled it out by setting the ListView height to an arbitrary value like 100dp. The buttons are still superimposed over it.
I fiddled with all the layout attributes, but I can't get it to work.
Apart from the solution, I would also like to know why mine doesn't work...

A LinearLayout displays its children in the order in which you add them: top to bottom = left to right, for a horizontal view and top to bottom for a vertical view. Change the order of the views in the XML and they will change on the screen.

You don't need to put orientation horizontal as it supports by default. Even there is no problem if you keep it as the other answerer said.

This is a part of my work. List view will appear in the middle of your screen and what ever u need at the top, put it in place of header() and things that u need in bottom of the screen , put it in place of footer(). U can use relative layout instead of the linear layout

I don't know what is meaning of expanding meaning here, but listView in scroll view dont behave normally. To resolve this issue you need to implement list view outside of scrollview.
I don't quite understand what you mean, but if you want to have the textView scroll with the content of the listView, you need to add it as a header in your listView.
Moreover, it is not a good idea to put a listview in a scrollview, the listview being scrollable, it messes with the scrollview mechanism.

I would like add a listview or tableview occupy 2/3 of the screen and then there would a giant button at the center just beneath the listview. From what you said in your question, it sounds like a vertical LinearLayout would work better for you.
That way you could have the ListView take up exactly two thirds of the screen by placing two views inside the top level LinearLayout, and use weights to distribute the views on the screen.

I think you should make use of the LinearLayout and the weight parameter to solve this problem.
