I just purchased a ZTE Cricket X500 running 2.3.4 for the purpose of testing my Android apps on. When I start the DDMS in the Eclipse Android SDK the device is not listed. The phone is in debug mode, Unknown Sources is enabled, and as far as I can tell the neccesary USB drivers have been installed. Furthermore I have a "Android Dev Phone 1" and the DDMS is able to recognizing that. My computer is running Windows 7. Any theories as to what might be going on?
try these commands:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
for some reason, this works for if the device isn't listed
I think it is because of your drivers, So install drivers for your device in your computer, then try to use it in dubug mode. so for that you have to put your device in debug-gable mode.
Hope this will help you.
Have you looked here and done everything required?
As the link says, if you are on a Windows machine or Linux machine, you need to tell your system to recognize the vendor ID for your phone. Hopefully this helps.

I have Android Studio on Windows 8.1 and I want to run my android app on my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone.
Here are the details:
USB debugging in my phone is ON
adb version is 1.0.36
Under Device Manger -> Portable Devices -> My Phone, the status is 'The device is working properly'
I also installed Google USB driver in SDK Tools
My desktop can detect my phone since I can read and write files using Windows Explorer
I tried the following but still, adb devices still does not recognize my phone.
Tried USB Configuration MTP
Tried USB Configuration PTP
Tried using different USB cables
Tried restarting Android Studio before and after I plug my device to my desktop
Did I miss any configuration? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
I too had the same problem.
I tried the following and it worked.
Make sure Developer options and USB debugging is enabled on your device
Then on your Windows system.
Open device manager and locate your device's ADB Interface Driver
Right click and choose properties
Check in the general tab if your device is working properly
If it is not enabled then go to Driver tab and select enable
You may have to try enabling your device a few times(7-8)
If this works then you may see the below message on the General tab
This device is working properly.
You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.
And that's how I made it work.
install drivers for your device and enable developer mode for your device
While the simple answer here is enable debug mode and install drivers, I think the answer should mention that if nothing works , do install google drivers. I stumbled on a video explaining the same, so adding the link here.

It helped fix my issue with oneplus device. Also, I could get the google usb drivers from android studio > sdk manager > sdk tools section.
Hoping to save someone else's time.
If you entered command adb devices in cmd and don't see your device ID, you can to open Windows Task Manager and close adb.exe task. Then you need to open again cmd and enter adb start-server and check devices again.
If you don't see your device ID after all then maybe problem in phone or drivers.
I found the answer here
I just need to install Samsung USB driver and it worked fine. I guess the Google USB driver did not work for me.
Also, I didn't know that I need to install a USB driver even if I can already read/ write files to my phone when I connect it to my desktop.
In Device Manager, I was looking at the wrong device (Portable Devices). I should have been looking at Other devices and there I can see that the Samsung phone has no drivers installed.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. Just try another USB port on your computer.
rebooting of the android device worked for me. Also, try to use the port USB 2.0
I was also facing the same issue on my MAC-OS. Restarting the MAC fixed the issue.
I also installed Android File Transfer to check if this was only a debugging issue or if it was an issue with the connected devices. Even AFT wasn't working so it was definitely not a debugging issue.
I also got this message on launching Studio after restarting the MAC.
sometimes windows firewall prohibit the adb.exe in platform-tolls folder
first check your phone and be sure about "usb debugging" is "on"
check that Default USB configuration is on "transferring files"
if you checked 1,2 but the problem is not solved you should reinstall platform-tools from "SDK manager" then "SDK tools" uncheck "Android SDK platform-tools" click apply then reinstall it by check "Android SDK platform-tools"
I am developing apps for android and I bought an bq Maxwell 2 Lite, and I wanted to test them in the device, but i can't seem to do it... can somebody help me with that?
The android version on the device is 4.1.1 and I have enabled debugging throw USB.
Thank you all for your time and thanks for all the help

So to test with any device you need
Install the driver for the device on your OS.
Enable USB debugging on your device.
Plug-in the device through an USB.
Run the app through the IDE and select the configured device to run the application
This should help you get started.
For using USB debugging in eclipse, make sure that you have all the drivers installed. Open sdk manager, under extras you can see Google USB drivers, make sure that this is downloaded.
If after this also it didn't work, go to device management if you are using windows and find your device. Right click on your device and update device drivers, update from my computer and give this folder sdk folder\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver. Set platform-tools folder in your path variables and run these commands:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
You can see list of attached devices using this command:
adb devices
I have already installed the drivers. I can transfer files from my Tablet to the PC.
Debug Mode is on, but adb devices and eclipse are not finding it.
It's a chinese tablet (=/) running version 2.2.
My PC is a Windows 7.
Already tried restarting ADB, but it didn't work.
Anyone knows what should I do to make it work?
Are You sure You've installed the ADB drivers for Your device or just the general device drivers? If not, check out the "Naked drivers" package on xda-developers. There are most of the important drivers.
Does Your adb interface recognize Your device when You type
adb devices
?
Here's a really nice tutorial:

I've for some reason always had issues with ADB drivers, even when using the correct driver for the device, it says its installed but device manager says it can start for some reason. The way I've found to fix it which has always worked for me, not matter the device is to install pda Net on your PC. Its purpose is really to allow you to tether your device to your PC but it installs the ADB driver without issue.
You can find the software at http://pdanet.co/
Before asking my question, I have looked through a few threads that share the same problem as me and have tried all the given solution with no success. I am from Malaysia.
I cannot get my device to be detected to test my app on my phone. I have checked both the "Unknown sources" and "USB debugging" settings in my phone. I am using eclipse. But if I create a random virtual device, my app is able to run there.
Okay so I am using a Motorola Atrix 2. And I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64 bit
I have downloaded android SDK bundle from here : http://www.motorola.com/sites/motodev/us-en/motodev_lp.html
I have also tried downloading the latest driver with no success. I have also added this line in the manifest android:debuggable="true"
I have tried both as a mass storage device and a media transferring device.
I would appreciate any help a lot because as of now, I cannot progress further into developing an android app and that saddens me. :(
I have attached a picture of which my android phone should be detected in the window, but as you can see, none.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BJu1XSgCYAEGCUd.jpg:large
go to /your-android-sdk-directory/platform-tools using command prompt.
type
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb devices
n see whether ur device is detected now or not...
Note: if you're using a Linux machine then put ./ before adb
Install proper drivers for your adb devices, from Android-SDK archive or Motorola site.
If you are on Windows machine, go to the device manager find your device, and select folder with drivers for it.
Open you windows os's explorer, have a look at the process, if there two or more process hold your adb, try to exits the process
Check that the android:minSdkVersion is lower or equal to the Version running on the phone. If it is higher it wont show on "Android Device Chooser"
Install and run programs/drivers with admin rights.
Have you installed Motorola Device Manager?
When debugging Samsung and HTC devices I got it to work by installing that kind of software (for syncing the devices to the computer).
Download from the following: ABD Universal Driver
and install it. Make sure you have your device plugged in before installing and make sure you are on USB debug mode on the phone settings.
I am trying to test my android app (android 2.3.3) via my karboon A1+ phone. However, I cannot get Eclipse to recognize my device on the debug config menu. My phone is recognized by my computer when I connect via the usb cable. I can access my phone via windows but not Eclipse. Also, the karboon A1+ driver has been recently updated when I updated to android 2.3.4.
The reason I am using my phone to debug is b.c the emulator keeps crashing/failing to install my app. I am running Windows Vista 32bit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Are you in developer mode on your phone?
This might help - Android devices
You would possible need to install the android drivers called ADB
This is also how to install the android driver from your SDK - Installing Drivers
Don't forget to enable apps from 'unknown sources' and enable ADB debugging.
Without both of those you can't install and get the console output from your app, which is pretty essential.
Those devices from small manufacturers are really tricky to get the drivers to work.
Apparently this guy got it working, it's a very hacky way, but I'll put his text:
I downloaded Zte n721 USB driver for my mobile. ( It
requires speecific driver for your device. Google usb drivers works
for very few mobiles. ) Then I put vender ID for Zte 0x19d2 to my
adb_usb.inf. ( You can not save in edit but you have to use : echo
0x19d2 >> adb_usb.inf ( use your vendor id you can get it from net I
got it from mypcdrivers.com) When you allow debugging on the mobile,
it works.
Apart from that the best thing is try to contact directly with your device manufacturer via this link http://www.karbonnmobiles.com/contact_us.php and demand an ADB Driver.
