I've just updated my android adt to version 17 and now i cant start my android projects. When I try to update it gives me an error:
This Android SDK requires Android Developer Toolkit version 17.0.0 or above. Current version is 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534. Please update ADT to the latest version.
I've tried to update again but it shows me this
Cannot complete the request. See the error log for details.
Android DDMS will be ignored because it is already installed, and updates are not permitted.
Android Development Tools will be ignored because it is already installed, and updates are not permitted.
Android Hierarchy Viewer will be ignored because it is already installed, and updates are not permitted.
Android Traceview will be ignored because it is already installed, and updates are not permitted.
Is there a way to fix this or can i downgrade adt to fix this problem
Get the Newest ADT by going to help, install software, and entering https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
if it doesn't let you, choose from 'available sites'
I had almost the same issue when trying to update the Android ADT tools on my Windows 7 machine. Turned out running Eclipse as Administrator solved the issue for me and I was able to update normally.
Moved my Android folder to Root.
open the SDK manager outside eclipse by browsing into it.
Turn of your virus protection
Turn off zonealarm
Unistall SDk Tools and SDK platform tools.
close out the manager and start up eclipse.
(Inside Eclipse) Help -> Install new Software -> ADD " name =" ADT PLUGIN ",
location " https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ " ---> OK
-----> Check the developer tools box.
I believe i had a corrupted install of 20 so eclipse knew it was there but did not know it was incomplete.Hope this saves someone the 3 hours it took me to figure this out.
Delete all folders/jars under \eclipse\plugins and \eclipse\features. Try installing Android ADT tools again. If you still have same error than search android word under eclipse(installation) folder. Delete all except platform.xml. open platform.xml and search android xml tags and remove all. Try installing again. This solved problem below.
The step which i have tried is: Run the SDK Manager and try to update the ADT.

I am getting this error:
I have installed ADT and SDK using install new software in Eclipse. I am using Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers. Version: Kepler Service Release 2.
I used this link https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
I do not know where the SDK is getting installed as it being done through Eclipse. Which path should I provide to remove this error. Actually I cannot even set a path as the OK button in preferences window remains disabled.
What can be the issue.
I know this has be address earlier but could not get what I am looking for hence added a new thread.
I do not know where the SDK is getting installed as it being done through Eclipse.
Not if you installed the ADT plugin separately. You need to download and install the Android SDK (see "SDK Tools Only"), then teach the ADT plugin where you installed it.
Also note that support for the ADT Plugin has been officially discontinued by Google.
Choose Window>preferences>Android
In the SDK location Text Box you need to browse the location of Android SDK, to let eclipse know where the android SDK is, and same for the ADT by chhosing HELP>Install new Software...
I had faced same problem and get solution....
In Eclipse go to Help
Install New Software ---> Add
Inside Add Repository write the Name: ADT (or, as you want)
and Location: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
after loading some time you will get Developer Tools.
check Developer Tool
click Next
Finish
Your problem will solved.
I have deleted folder .android in my user folder (c:/users/xyz/.android) and relaunched Eclipse - dialog box "Android SDK installation" (not exact name) has came up - then install of SDK.
I have download ADT 21.1, and tried install it on eclipse
I got those:
The operation cannot be completed. See the details.

When I reopen SDK Manager, I still got this:
In Windows->Preference->Android, I got this:
Thus, I wanna reintall ADT, but I found I can't uninstall any Plug In, Uninstall.. button is gray!
In Eclipse, try:
Help > Install New Software
Then Choose the name you gave for https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ (working link)
Select the updates to install and then crucially, uncheck "Contact all update sites during install to find required software".
I also confirm that this works (already mentioned by ing0)
In Eclipse (ADT)
Help --> Install New Software ---> Work with --> Android Developer
Tools Update Site - http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
Select all of the updates you want to install and UNCHECK option "Contact all update sites during install to find required software". After that everything should install as it is mentioned to be.
I seem to have looked through many solution on here and the web and cannot find any relevant information towards the error I am receiving in Eclipse when I try to download the latest developer tools for android.
The SDK works fine, but the plugin for eclipse is giving me this error:

When I target my SDK within Eclipse I aslo get the following message:
This Android SDK requires Android Developer Toolkit version 17.0.0 or
above. Current version is 9.0.0.v201101191456-93220. Please update
ADT to the latest version.
Can anyone give me any suggestions to solving this problem?
I too had the same problem. I resolved it by doing the following in Eclipse:
Go to Help -> Check for Updates -> Install all the Updates available.
This will install the android stuffs properly
I have solved this problem:
I used this source: http://www.mobitechie.com/uncategorized/eclipse-android-development-tools-requires-org-eclips
This directed me to download eclipse classic found here: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
Installing classic and checking for updates I gained access to download the sufficient ADT's to use the android SDK.
Thanks for commenting people!
Go to Help -> Check for Updates -> Install all the Updates available. only check on Android Development Tools then press next and accept install it
I am writing this after struggling a lot with updating my ADT. I have tried using different eclipse, android sdk everything, but still it says me that Android SDK requires android developer toolkit version 17.0.0 or above, current version is 11.0.0.v201105251008-128486.
I referred question mentioned here Android SDK requires android developer toolkit version 17.0.0 or above
But when I checked for updates again it displays a warning message stating that
Warning: You are installing software that contains unsigned content. The authenticity or validity of this software cannot be established. Do you want to continue with the installation?
along with the OK and Cancel buttons.
I got fed up of this, can any one tell me how to resolve this?
Thank you
Open the SDK manager(in Windows right click and run as administrator), and then update your Tools to the latest version. Install all the latest versions. That should solve your problem. Remember to open the SDK manager with administrator privileges.
I don't know what is happening wrong with the eclipse or android sdk. I deleted literally everything except my workspace. Then installed again and now it works fine.
The full text is:
This verison of ADT requires Android SDK Tools in revision 17 or above.
Current revision is 15.
Please update your SDK Tools to the latest version
When I get this error, it prompts me to open up the SDK Manager.
Then I select the newest version, and try to install it, but then I receive the error message:
-= Warning! =-
A folder failed to be moved. On Windows, this typically means
that a program is using that folder...
So, I close Eclipse, and click 'Yes' to try again, but I keep getting the same error message.
Any idea on what to do?
I solved this problem on my mac by modifying the plugin.prop file:
for mac
/Users/admin/Desktop/android-sdk-macosx/tools/lib/plugin.prop
for ubuntu
......./android-sdk-linux/tools/lib/plugin.prop
Change the line from
plugin.version=17.0.0
to
plugin.version=16.0.1.v201112150204-238534
And reload eclipse.. and it no longer warns about anything.
In order to run updates in the Android SDK on Windows, you need to run it as an Administrator. If you aren't an administrator, most upgrade operations will fail with permissions errors (they're not always reported as permissions errors, but that's what they are).
Right click on the SDK manager tool icon in your start menu, and select the "Run as Administrator" option.
You will then be able to run your upgrades.
