Android how check for double entry in my sqlite db? - android

So I have a db in my app that gets build when the app is first open through an Helper class, I can add (it adds if just use dbfavoritosHelper.insert(favId, favName, favType);ourCursor.requery();Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),"El medio a sido a tus favorites!" inside the Agrefav button,)) and delete items from it with no problem, but what I want to accomplish is at the moment of pressing the adding button to check is an item with the same favId already exist, so if it does I don't want to add it because I don't want to create a duplicate so I want to update that item, so far the code I have is not working here it is:

You can also let your table check for you. Here's an example in SQLite:
create table foo (

So if we change your insert function a little to catch the constraint exception and have it return true/false:

You never created an instance of the DbManager class.
Adding an DbManager manager = new DbManager(); and then using manager.fetch() and manager.insert(params...) should solve your problem.
Doing Class.Method() is only possible if Method() was declares as public static void Method(). If it wasn't, you need to first create an object, then call the method on that object like I showed you above.

Retrive my database values from my database and then using them on a programmatic SMS message?

I'm confused and cannot figure out how I can send an SMS message using values stored on my database.
The SMS would appear like this: ('NAME'... Message content, etc..), the message would then be sent using the contact numbers entered by the user on the sqlite database.

Managed to get it right. So I'll answer my own question.
Create a editText area wherein you'll enter your name to retrieve. Then use this code to retrieve it

Have you created the class extending SQLiteOpenHelper? If you have it, then use the constructor and get an object of this class:
dbHelper = new SQLiteHelper(context, getString(R.string.db_name_dev), null, DB_VERSION);
And then for example:

The data is being reinserted because you're methods never check to see if it already exists in the databse. You need to add a query for some unique combination - probably name and phone number. If that query returns a result you can prompt the user to enter the data.

Also you cannot use a Toast for this. What you want is a Dialog. If the data exists you can display a custom Dialog to the user that you could use to allow them to (1) enter new data (2) edit existing data (3) choose to reinsert the data they are posting. A Toast will just display a message to them like - "reinserting data". It does not sound like that is the functionalty you want to achieve.
To update the database you can just use an update statment depending on what fields you want to change.

I put the if statments in to check for which fields are being changed and add them to the query accordingly. In the alternative you could use something like this

While I havnet modified it to fit your example you can see the basic approach. Hhere you can use conditionals to check if values are being supplied, if they are you add them to the ContentVlues list which will update them in the DB.

The code above assumes you have some table in your database named "SOME_TABLE" and that you have an object that takes 7 parameters but you should be able to alter the snippet to make it work for you.
You need to query your database for the data, and then iterate through the returned cursor to pull out the data you need and put it into strings to feed into your constructor.
The query would look something like this (using the info you provided and the query method):

Note that this is a basic query and subject to SQL injection attacks, It should be parameterized to make it less vulnerable, unless you are not going to allow the user to type in the category and rather have them pick from a list you provide.
Anyway, that would return your data in a cursor, with one row for each record that matched the search parameters. From there, you would need to iterate through the returned cursor and pull the data out of it and into strings you can use.
