Cross Platform App Development with Corona - android

I am wanting to build a cross-platform mobile app for iOS and android devices. I have never tried making a mobile app before and was thinking of using Corona SDK. I went to the Corona site to download the SDK and I have a few questions. First, it says that "Due to Apple's restrictions, you cannot build for iOS on Windows". Does this mean I can only build an Android app or does it mean I have to publish it to the app store using an Apple computer? Seeing that Corona is cross platform I think it would be stupid if you had to use an Apple computer to get the cross-platform benefit of Corona. Second, do I have to subscribe to Corona to be able to put my app on the app store or can I do this for free with the free version of the Corona SDK. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

See this page about distribution. Yes, you need a mac to use iOS because of Apple's restrictions.

What is the difference between installing JQuery Mobile application on a device using Google Play Store and using PhoneGap

What is the difference between installing JQuery Mobile application on a device using Google Play Store and using PhoneGap?
Also, is there other tools we can use to install Jquery application on devices besides PhoneGap?
Thank you!!!!
You don't install an application using PhoneGap. Phonegap is a framework that lets you develop apps using html 5/javascript. After you develop your app you still have to publish it on Google Play if you want users to install it. Jquery Mobile is also a framework, designed to develop webpages optimized for mobile screens.
There is a good post here Explaining the differences between phonegap and jquery mobile.
There are several other mobile web frameworks such as Titanium, sencha, kendo ui, and I am sure you can find others if you run a quick search for it.
You need to read a little about them and understand the differences and advantages between them. Googling "Phonegap vs Titanium" for example will give you a good start point to understand the difference between them.
PhoneGap is just a cross-platform framework to develop mobile applications. You can use HTML, CSS, JS (incl. jQuery and jQuery Mobile) to develop in PhoneGap. In order to test applications, you can transfer them to your device using tools provided by PhoneGap and the Android SDK.
But in order to publish your application and make it available for others in the Google Play Store, you have to create a developer account ($25 at the time of writing this) and upload your application package (APK) there.
PhoneGap Guide (read "deploy to device")
Android Guide "Using hardware devices"
Android Guide "Get started with publishing"
There are also other cross-platform frameworks available such as "Titanium". Keep in mind that jQuery Mobile is only a Javascript (jQuery) extension to help building user interfaces that resemble conventional app behavior and look. It is not a complete framework to build your application.

Mobile SDK (IAP, Notifications, Native UI)

Im looking for a mobile SDK that has the following for iOS and Android (BB and Win Phone are bonuses):
-In-App Purchases
-Notifications
-Native UI
-Camera
-HTTP (need to get info from different websites)
Preferably just have to write all of this once and it work on all platforms (optimistic I think)...
What are the frameworks that support this? I have looked at RhoStudio which is what I plan on using but would love alternatives as I am not overly familiar with Ruby (but will learn it if it's the best option).
You can use NSBasic App Studio and Phonegap Build. It seems to do what you want, and it works on Windows. With Phonegap Build you can build for iOS (developer account needed), as well as Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, WebOS, and Symbian. I personally have used it before and it's quite good. You can get a free trial, and the full version is $99.
What about Sencha touch? I don't know if this is what you are looking for so just a suggestion.

Cross-platform application (Android, iOS, Symbian)

I'm developping an HTML5 cross-platform game. Now I'm using Phonegap with the Android sdk. But I want this game to work on iOS. Should I have a Mac and repeat all the work on it, or the game will be working on iOS without all this procedure?
PhoneGap doesn't produce one app that can run on different platforms, instead it is used to create an app per platform (each app contains the same version of your HTML5 code). Thus you will have to create an iOS specific version of your app using PhoneGap. This is very quick to do, however you will need a Mac and XCode in order to build the app.
Apple apps also need to be signed with certificates, so you will need to sign up as an iOS developer with the Apple web site and create the necessary certificates.
You could use this site to build your application for all plateforms: https://build.phonegap.com/. For generating your iOS application you should have a certofication licence.
Good luck!

Are applications developed using 3rd party mobile application development tools acceptable to their respective markets?

I am trying to implement application that is supported to android, iphone, blackberry, windows mobile, symbian, webos (palm).
For that I am using the 3rd party applications here.
However, upon research I found that Android market doesn't accept the application that is developed on total cross tool.
Same for iphone to use application that is done on total cross mobile must be jail broken.
So, now I am in confusion that, is mobile applications those are developed using 3rd party Mobile application development tools are acceptable with their respected marckets.
For example, if I develop an application using phonegap tool on android, will android market accept that application?
The iOS and Android application stores have plenty of applications built using cross-platform frameworks. Apple originally suggested they would restrict these platforms, but they backed off from this position last year as shown here:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/09/09statement.html
I have to disagree with Sheikh Aman, however. I believe there are several platforms that do that. According to the original poster's link, Bedrock does so.
It's a little misleading to say that PhoneGap is for mobile websites--it's true it uses JavaScript+CSS, but their apps are packaged so they can be sold through the app store.
My company's product, the Particle SDK, covers Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, webOS, and WinPhone7, and legacy support is available for Symbian, but so far we haven't had much call for it. Particle apps are written in Java or ActionScript, not JavaScript.
If the original poster actually needs Windows Mobile, as opposed to Windows Phone 7, Bedrock or PhoneGap might fit the bill.
I haven't tested those toolkits, but they both have applications in the app store. EA's iPhone Battleship game is apparently a Bedrock app.
AFAIK, Appcelarator is very well accepted in app-store and in Android market too.
Phone Gap is for mobile websites.
Most importantly, there's no cross-platform development environment available, which lets you develop for Android+iPhone+WP7+BB+Symbian by writing a JS (or whatever) only once.

Best platform for programming to IPad and new Windows and Android Pads

would like to build an app that can run on any of the new PAD's hitting market.
I don't want to limit our users to a specific OS.
What is the best solution to allow all these pads to use our app.
The app needs to be able to run offline.
Thanks!
You could write a web application and use HTML5 for off-line caching.
http://diveintohtml5.ep.io/offline.html
Alternatively, you could try and use Titanium Mobile.

You should also spend some time reading this discussions:
is-there-a-multiplatform-framework-for-developing-iphone-android-applications
technology-to-write-iphone-blackberry-and-android-phone-at-the-same-time
Have a look a MonoTouch, it will let you write all your logic in C# over all the main mobile platforms. However you still need custom UI code for each platform, but as least it will all be in C#.
(Better then having to use C#, Java and Objective C)
You could use Adobe Air that could works in most of Mobile/Tablet operating system Iphone,Android and Windows 7. but im not sure if Apple will approve your App if you plan to released to the App market.
Another way to think about it is to create an HTML resources and then integrated in away seems native to the system its more work but you will have a higher chance to get approved from apple and the app look more integrated with the OS .
The obvious -- and currently free -- answer is to use Adobe FlashBuilder to develop iOS apps. There is an iPhone and iPad emulator included. This does not use xcode, but you get most of the features to work with, and you can also develop Android apps from the same set of code. Further, with minor modifications for mouse usage, you can also have the apps run on any desktop as an Air app.
Adobe's website has detailed directions for how to create iOS apps on Windows with Adobe Air, though the most useful instructions for Air are from untoldentertainment.com.
