I have a ListView whit two taps underneath it, but i cant seem to figure out how to put an Image above the ListView. I have tried just putting an ImageView on top, but it wont do it?
This is how it looks now.
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#FFFFFF">
<ImageView
android:id="#drawable/frederiksberg"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
<ListView
android:id="#android:id/list"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="1dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
Try this code and run
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/add" android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"/>
<ListView
android:id="#id/android:list"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
</ListView>
</LinearLayout>
It is working fine for me. Hope this helps you.
It is quite simple dude.
Take a Linear layout L1.
add one ImageView in L1 with Weight tag = 1
and add listview in L1 whose width and height must be fill parent.
make orientation of L1 as vertical..
let me know if any doubt.
here is solution make your parent layout as relative layout because it will provide you more flexiblity.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_marginLeft="122dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_launcher" />
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_below="#+id/imageView1" >
</ListView>
</RelativeLayout>
hope it will work for you.. it is complete xml file i am posting for you try it.

I'm new to android development and have some doubts with regards to layout design. I have the following codes but its not working as i wanted. I would like to have the image view display a photo i have taken and below it, a textbox for user to input data. However, at this moment, the image takes up the whole screen and I could not locate my textbox. Please kindly advice. Thanks!
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:id="#+id/linear">
<ImageView android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:contentDescription="#string/desc"/>
<EditText
android:id="#+id/editTextSimple1"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent">
<requestFocus />
</EditText>
</LinearLayout>
Use RelativeLayout instead of LinearLayout and USe below xml code instead of your xml code, it will solve your problem.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/linear"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_above="#+id/editTextSimple1"
android:contentDescription="desc" />
<EditText
android:id="#+id/editTextSimple1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" >
<requestFocus />
</EditText>
</RelativeLayout>
Change ImageView layout height to layout_height="wrap_content"
With layout_height="fill_parent", the image will take all the space.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:id="#+id/linear">
<ImageView android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:contentDescription="#string/desc"/>
<EditText
android:id="#+id/editTextSimple1"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent">
<requestFocus />
</EditText>
</LinearLayout>
The problem is
android:layout_height ="fill _parent"
This makes it occupy the whole parent space I.e. The whole screen
Either set the height to a specific value of dp,px etc. Or use
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
If view is small enough to fit on screen
<ImageView android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:contentDescription="#string/desc"/>
Add weight to your ImageView like this. It will work.
like the title said it there are some "space" before and after an image and i don't want it.
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#drawable/fond"
>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:contentDescription="#string/desc"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/top"
android:layout_gravity="top"
/>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#drawable/fond1"
>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
So like you can see i have a first Layout with a background.
The ImageView is just after and should be on the top but it didn't.
The second Layout is to much after the image.
->
first layout
--unwanted space--
image
--unwanted space--
second layout
If anyone know how to delete this "space", thanks.
Use android:adjustViewBounds="true" inside your ImageView. That way your ImageView will be adjusted to the provided image bounds.
Use Relative layout this Way::
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#drawable/fond"
>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:contentDescription="#string/desc"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/top"
android:layout_gravity="top"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_below="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#drawable/fond1"
>
</LinearLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
I am displaying a TextView and below that a ListView in one page. My code is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:id="#+id/widget"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<RelativeLayout
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:id="#+id/widgetlay"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/txt1"
android:text=""
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
>
</TextView>
</RelativeLayout>
<ListView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/listlist"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1.0">
</ListView>
</RelativeLayout>
Here I am displaying the ListView data dynamically....but in my emulator it is displaying a TextView at the top and then the ListView with scroll...It is not expanding the list and instead it is scrolling with the content which is generated dynamically...Please tell me how to expand the entire ListView....
Thanks in advance
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent">

android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="status"
android:id="#+id/txtvw1">

android:id="#+id/listlist"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
</ListView>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >

android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="status" >
</TextView>
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listlist"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1">
</ListView>
</LinearLayout>
You have an error here
<ListView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:id="#+id/listlist" //error here
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
</ListView>
the ListView is filled of the LinearLayout
so that you can't get the TextView.
instand of this
you can layout your view as follows:
<ListView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/listlist" //error here
android:layout_height="0"
android:layout_weight="1.0>
android:layout_weight="1.0" //this will make the list view filled with the rest of the screem
Further more
I suggest you use "match_parent" instand of "fill_parent"
this WAS CHANGED in the SDK level 8...
OK, now you use the RelativeLayout install of the LinearLayout
So you should add the relationship with your views in your layout.
You can layout as this:
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/widgetlay"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/txt1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="" >
</TextView>
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listlist"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/txt1" />
android:layout_below="#id/txt"----Indicate the relationship with the layout
The RelativeLayout does not have the attr "orientation" and "layout_weight". So I don't suggest you to use this layout, It can't be fixed with the screen height in that way.
The good layout is:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/txtvw1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="status" >
</TextView>
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listlist"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1.0" />
Further more, what do you want to layout your views?
This is a part of my work. List view will appear in the middle of your screen and what ever u need at the top, put it in place of header() and things that u need in bottom of the screen , put it in place of footer(). U can use relative layout instead of the linear layout
Hope this helps.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
>
<RelativeLayout android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="#+id/layout_header">
<include layout="#layout/header"/>
</RelativeLayout>
<LinearLayout android:layout_width="match_parent" android:gravity="center" android:orientation="horizontal" android:weightSum="1"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:id="#+id/layout_footer">
<include layout="#layout/footer" />
</LinearLayout>
<ListView android:id="#android:id/list" android:layout_below="#id/layout_header" android:layout_above="#id/layout_footer"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:visibility="visible" />
<!-- <TextView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/hello"
/> -->
</RelativeLayout>
I don't know what is meaning of expanding meaning here, but listView in scroll view dont behave normally. To resolve this issue you need to implement list view outside of scrollview.
I don't quite understand what you mean, but if you want to have the textView scroll with the content of the listView, you need to add it as a header in your listView.
Moreover, it is not a good idea to put a listview in a scrollview, the listview being scrollable, it messes with the scrollview mechanism.
You can NEVER ever place a listview in the SCrollView.It wont behave properly.Instead of it try using LinearLayout TextView ListView < /Linearlayout>
I have the following android layout that displays toe list views in the screen one in left side one the other to right side.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<ListView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="1" android:id="#+id/ListView01"/>
<ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="3" android:id="#+id/ListView02"/>
Now I want to add a button displayed it the bottom right side of the screen.
Can anyone help me about how I could do that?
first remove the linear layout,use relative layout.for button use the following command
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" and android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
A possible solution should be: Add a RelativeLayout as root layout and put the button after the LinearLayout with properties layout_below and layout_right (LinearLayout as reference).
Try to use the following code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:background="#ffffff"
>
<Button
android:id="#+id/click"
android:layout_width="100dip"
android:layout_height="60dip"
android:text="Click"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
/>
<ListView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/ListView02"
android:background="#00ff00"
android:layout_toLeftOf="#+id/click"
/>
<ListView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/ListView01"
android:background="#000000"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_toLeftOf="#+id/ListView02"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
Thanks
Deepak
I have following in xml
I wanna put the second linear layout at the bottom of the screen.
How will i do?
I have set the property of second Relative layout to bottom but still not showing at bottom..
**
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout01"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
</RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout02"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
</RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_gravity="bottom">
</RelativeLayout>
</LinearLayout>
**
Thanx in advance
I was searching for this a while too. My just found solution is to use the property:
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
instead of your existing android:layout_gravity="bottom"
This unfortunately with my layout only works when having an additional RelativeLayout as root layout and the rest added to it. Maybe this is not always the case, but with having a LinearLayout (even when told to use fill_parent) it only used the height all added elements needed and put my footer at the bottom of those.
I came to this solution, looking at this related question: How do I achieve the following result using RelativeLayout?
EDIT here because format in answer comment got lost:
Do you mean you can't re-write it or that it didn't work?
I had a vertical LinearLayout too and my new xml structure looks (without the layout size params etc.) sth. like this:
<RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout01">
</RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout02"
android:layout_below="#+id/RelativeLayout01">
</RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_below="#+id/RelativeLayout02"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true">
</RelativeLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
The Layout you want at the bottom should have:
android:gravity = "bottom"
and its parent should have:
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
<Linearlayout android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orinationtation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<RelativeLayout android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:weight="1">
</RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:weight="1"
>
</RelativeLayout>
</Linearlayout >
You should put a View before your last layout with weight 1, and it will put it to bottom. Like this:
<View android:id="#+id/emptySpace"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
/>
Try using:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#ffb3e5fc"
android:id="#+id/linearLayout1">
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:gravity="bottom">
<Button
android:id="#+id/button1"
android:text="Left"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_toLeftOf="#+id/centerPoint" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/centerPoint"
android:text=""
android:layout_width="1dip"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/button2"
android:text="Right"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_toRightOf="#+id/centerPoint" />
</RelativeLayout>
</LinearLayout>
It produces something that looks like this
For my it's work.
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/InnerRelativeLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:background="#fff"
android:gravity="bottom"
app:layout_anchor="#+id/fab_inout"
app:layout_anchorGravity="bottom|center">
<TextView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="dsfsdfasdf df" />
</RelativeLayout>
