I have to say that I don't quite get what you're trying to di.
If you're trying to prevent people from using an app after it's downloaded the only way I can think of is having an HTTP(S) request done to a server with an identifier that is set the first time the app is run and check a DB to see if it can run (set a boolean flag shouldRun or something like it).
If you wat to prevent it from being copied from one phone to another, you can use the Google Play built in option to prevent it.
if this is what you're trying to achieve, you should probably obfuscate your code as well

There is currently no support in the Android SDK to reliably do this. The application locking apps that are currently on the market aren't reliable in that they exploit a security loophole and put themselves in the foreground when you try to run a given application. This can be bypassed without much difficulty if you know how, and the security flaws they exploit will hopefully be closed. Sorry.

my goal is to get a video from a usb connected device (an easycap video grabber) displayed. There is already an android app that does exactly that. However i need to add some buttons and some extra functions to it. So i came to the idea of displaying the app that already exists inside my app. Is that possible in any way?
I already tried to decompile the existing app to edit the code a bit but i didn't get anything to work with.
Do you have any other idea? If you know how to program that please let me know what i need to achieve that.

This cannot be done due to security reasons in the Android OS itself.
Android provides a security layer called the Sandbox in which the OS assigns a User ID for each app, so that an app will not have permission to access resources from another app.
I was wondering if anyone had a relatively simple solution for us.
We created an app to be used by our clients on android devices that we give them.
We would like the client to only be able to use our app and have limited access to everything else (i.e. settings, email etc.) What is the best way to achieve this without using 3rd party apps.

This may not help but the L preview has a task locking feature included that may be of some insight, I'm not aware of how it functions as yet

I am trying to create a benchmarking app that launches a few apps and measures the load time. Starting a timer and launching an app (via intents) is the easy part. And, if I have source to the child app, I can either have it record the time and pass that back, or I can just have it kill itself completely at some point. But, how do I know when stock apps have finished loading? Or, how can I make them close automatically so that mine is brought to the foreground again to stop the timer? I know the source for stock apps is public, but I don't think it's practical for me to try to modify it. Or is it? I can't tie my benchmarking app to a specific version of Android.
Specifically, I'm interested in measuring load times for the browser, youtube, and mail.
I've looked at using the ActivityManager to get info about running apps, but I think in that case I would have to poll in the background, and I've read that ActivityManager info is not necessarily always up-to-date, anyway.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
I decided to just modify the source and build a version of my app for each version of Android/processor. I won't have to target each device specifically, just processor families (Atom/armV7/etc.)

Building a custom version of a stock AOSP app is also not that bad
From there, it's just a matter of using intents to invoke activities and pass information.
In my application i have done all the process and they are working very well. Now my device needs only one application or other application must not come front to the user's view..
Can I make my Application as Default application or the only application viewable by the user?
To avoid the unnecessary usage of other applications or to keep time consumption I plan to try this.

You cannot do this on a stock device. Your best bet is to create a launcher that only allows launching your app. The user needs to agree to run it however, and it can always be changed and/or disabled in Settings.

From an Android perspective, this would only work if the application were part of the ROM image, otherwise, a normal application can't block itself from being uninstalled. For this to be feasible, you'd have to create a custom ROM image, root the phone and install the custom image, and then do this for each employee you wanted to track. It's probably more work than it's worth, but that's the general idea.
on Android this would be vs the spirit of Android . What i could tell you is to control whenever the use ends the app , seeing his connection out , and making you pay attention to that bad employee :3
Anyway i tell you to not search more on Android cause there are task killers everywhere . Then it wouldn't be a good research.
