In my app I am making some computations. The whole layout is inside a Scrollview.
The result is being shown on top. Xml is like that:
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#drawable/back2back"
>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="526dp"
android:background="#drawable/back4"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/nothing"
android:layout_width="181dp"
android:layout_height="51dp"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:textColor="#000000"
android:textStyle="bold" />
rest of the xml
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
So I want when pressing the calculate button the focus of the screen to be set to the top of my page (or to be more specific in the upper textview) so the user will be able to see a result. I searched in SO but I have not found something similar.
If I understand your question, simply call:
scrollView.scrollTo(0, 0);
in your calculation Button's OnClickListener.

I have a horizontal scroll view that takes up the right half of the screen. On it, I have an EditText. When I select the EditText to edit the text, the HorizontalScrollView scrolls to the right. I'm guessing it's trying to place the EditText to the leftmost position. Regardless, since the HorizontalScrollView takes up the rightside of the screen, by doing this, I can no longer see the EditText since its now covered up by the contents I put on the left side of the screen. How can I prevent HorizontalScrollView from automatically scrolling when I focus on something inside its layout?
Thanks. Much appreciated.

Edit: Posting code. I'm actually creating my EditText's based off of generated info, so this is not what it actually looks like, but it should capture the ideai.
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<View
android:layout_leftOf="#+id/Anchor"/>
<View
android:id="#+id/Anchor"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:background="#000" />
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_rightOf="#+id/Anchor"
android:fillViewport="true" >
<HorizontalScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fillViewport="true" >
<TableLayout
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="10dp" >
<TableRow>
<EditText>
ABOVE is the view that is going to the left
MOre views which would cause Scrolling to the right
</TableRow>
</TableLayout>
</HorizontalScrollView>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>
try this in XML the EditText if use
android:gravity="center"
remove it
In my application I want to have a layout like this:
I did it with a Relative Layout holding an ImageView, TableLayout and a Button. The problem is that when I open the keyboard to modify a EditText the keyboard is on top of the EditText, so the user can't see what he is writing. I want the layout to be like this when the keyboard is shown:
The user should be able to scroll up the view to see the whole image while the keyboard is shown, even if he doesn't see the EditText then, because he wants to copy some data of the image into the EditTexts. I tried to do it like this:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:baselineAligned="false"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/buttonEditStop"
android:padding="10dip" >
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/stopImg"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:clickable="true"
android:contentDescription="#string/entry_img"
android:onClick="ImageClick" />
<TableLayout
android:id="#+id/formLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/stopImg"
android:layout_marginRight="10dp" >
...
</TableLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
<ImageButton
android:id="#+id/buttonEditStop"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:contentDescription="#string/edit_stop"
android:onClick="EditButtonClicked"
android:src="#drawable/ic_menu_edit" />
Using this code my whole layout is screwed. I see the form on top of the image, followed by a ImageButton with the image that should be seen in the imageView.
Anyone knows how I can get a layout like the one I want?
Thanks!
To avoid the EditText to be overlapped I had to use
android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan"
in my manifest.
My Android app's main activity looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#drawable/background"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/ScrollView"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:paddingLeft="60dp"
android:paddingTop="53dp" >
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/RelativeLayout1"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/billAmountText"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="#string/billAmount_string"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium" />
<EditText
android:id="#+id/billAmount"
android:layout_width="173dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/billAmountText"
android:layout_marginTop="3dp"
android:inputType="numberDecimal" />
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>
In order to make sure the background image (defined in the first RelativeLayout) does not get squeezed when the keyboard pops up, I have set android:windowSoftInputMode="stateVisible|adjustPan in the manifest file for my activity. All good with the background and layout now, nothing gets resized.
But the problem is that my ScrollView doesn't work now because I suppose the system thinks the window doesn't need resizing due to my above modification to the manifest - so the ScrollView is not activated. The opposite happens when I take android:windowSoftInputMode="stateVisible|adjustPan out, the scrolling works, but the background gets squeezed when the keyboard pops out.
Is there any way to code it so that my background doesn't get squeezed, and my ScrollView still works? Thanks!
Try to use in your activity the property windowSoftInputMode with the following values:
android:windowSoftInputMode="stateAlwaysHidden|adjustResize"
I don't know if it's necessary but you can try to add to your layout's ScrollView tag the fillViewPort to true.
So it should look like something I show you below:
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:fillViewport="true">
<!-- Other Views -->
</ScrollView>
Let me know about your progress.
In your scrollview put a relative layout, child 0 is an imageview, and child 1 is your content. Use the imageview for your background image (src) rather than the background of the scrollview. The imageview will respect scaleTypes, whereas the background of a layout will not.
I'm using a Relative layout as the root or parent container and I have two buttons to place inside this Layout. The buttons need to be placed one on top of the other. The problem is that I want to position these buttons so that they appear below the center of the view but not directly below. That is within the bottom half of the view I want the buttons to appear halfway along that half portion. I tried adding a the buttons as children of a RelativeLayout (that was centered in the middle) inside the parent RelativeLayout and that sort of achieves what I'm trying to but then the Eclipse complains with a warning stating that one set of Relative Layout tags is useless and that I should consider getting rid of it.
Then I tried giving a one of the buttons a top margin with respect to its parent and then placing the other button under the this button with the top margin. This seems to work until I try it out in other virtual devices and I find out that depending on the screen sizes and dimensions it might or might not appear where I want it to (especially not the case with tablet devices).
Ok, so then I'm not sure how to achieve what I want the right way (without warnings or errors). Here's my current code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#drawable/default_real" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_marginTop="300sp"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_email_button" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_web_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_below="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_web_button" />
</RelativeLayout>
How about using two layouts and the android:layout_weight attribute
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#drawable/default_real"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"/ >
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" >
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_email_button" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/sm_panel_web_button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/sm_panel_email_button"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:background="#drawable/info_view_web_button" />
</RelativeLayout>
</LinearLayout>
The default screen of my app shows a ListView. When the user selects an entry a new Activity is displayed with a Title (TextView), some information gained from xml (WebView).
I want to place an Ad aligned to the bottom of this second Activity.
My layout currently is this:
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/info" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" style="#style/info">
<TextView android:id="#+id/title" style="#style/title" />
<WebView android:id="#+id/info" style="#style/info" />
</LinearLayout>
This works perfectly, but I can't get the Ad to always be at the bottom.
I've tried RelativeLayout, but no matter what, I always get the same results!
If the HTML shown in the WebView is short enough for the AdView to be displayed (but not at bottom, underneath WebView) or its too long and the AdView is not shown at all!
I want the AdView always visible always, even if the WebView scrolls!
Hope this makes sense!
Neil
PS: I'll continue to look for answers and update if I find one....
Figured out a way to solve this, but is it the best way??
This is how I did it:
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/linearlayout" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:neildeadman="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.neildeadman.android" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" style="#style/Info">
<LinearLayout android:id="#+id/info" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" style="#style/info">
<TextView android:id="#+id/title" style="#style/title" />
<WebView android:id="#+id/info" style="#style/info" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
The "layout_weight" attributes allowed me to force the inner LinearLayout to fill the remaining gap left by the add, which then contained my layout from above!
Works lovely....
