how to parse two lines of text and image in android - android

I have a feed I'm parsing and wondering how to parse two lines of information and an image. I can successfully parse one line of text but haven't figured out how to pull image from it and second line of text i want. Here is a picture of what i want to accomplish
here is the code for my parser

I have been researching this for a while and havn't found anything that works on this. Any information anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Pretty new to parsing so trying to learn this as i go. Thanks again.
Found a great Tutorial to help me achive the view i wanted to do and here is the link for it.
http://www.androidhive.info/2012/02/android-custom-listview-with-image-and-text/
Hope this will help someone

You're using the ArrayAdapter this adapts an array of strings and shows one string on each list item.
You'll need to:
create a custom adapter
extend BaseAdapter
pass it a custom layout that represents one list item
pass it your List of Message's
in the getView() method retrieve one Message and set the title description and image
This is your culprit code:
ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.row, titles);
this.setListAdapter(adapter);

For this i also add adapter as well as arraylist.
but when i run this application api is not called perfectly..
hope anyone a]can help me..
here i add adapter and arraylist
Adapter
public Doctortype_Adapter(Context context, ArrayList<Doctortype_method> objects) {
super(context, R.layout.list_doctortype, objects);
this.context = context;
this.vi = (LayoutInflater) context
.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
this.actorList = objects;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
// convert view = design
//View v = convertView;
View rowView;
ViewHolder vh;
if (convertView == null) {
rowView = vi.inflate(R.layout.list_doctortype, null);
setViewHolder(rowView);
} else {
rowView = convertView;
}
vh = (ViewHolder) rowView.getTag();
vh.title.setText(Html.fromHtml(actorList.get(position).gettitle()));
vh.subtitle.setText(Html.fromHtml(actorList.get(position).getsubtitle()));
/* String image=actorList.get(position).getid();
UrlImageViewHelper.setUrlDrawable(vh.dimage, image.toString(), R.drawable.no_img);*/
return rowView;
}
static class ViewHolder {
public TextView title, subtitle;
}
private void setViewHolder(View rowView) {
ViewHolder vh = new ViewHolder();
vh.title = (TextView) rowView.findViewById(R.id.tvProfileName);
vh.subtitle = (TextView) rowView.findViewById(R.id.tvDesc);
}
}
arraylist
public Doctortype_method( String title, String subtitle) {
super();
this.title = title;
this.subtitle = subtitle;
}
public String gettitle() {
return title;
}
public void settitle(String title) {
this.title = title;
}
public String getsubtitle()
{
return subtitle;
}
public void setsubtitle(String subtitle) {
this.subtitle = subtitle;
}
there is no error but when i run this code api is not called and i didnt get the output i want.
Thnx in advance..
if (status.equalsIgnoreCase("true")) is wrong because you getting status:1 so it is if (status.equalsIgnoreCase("1")) try this and then change this array = jobj.getJSONArray("response"); to array = jobj.getJSONArray("data"); your JSONArray key is "data"
And replace this also
actorsList.add(new Doctortype_method(jsonChildNode.optString("State id"),jsonChildNode.optString("State name")));
with
actorsList.add(new Doctortype_method(jsonChildNode.optString("countryID"),jsonChildNode.optString("vCountry")));
hope this helps. if this doesn't help feel free to ask
EDIT:
I cant understand what you want but have a look at this
-> you need to create baseAdapter for listview and set that adapter into the listview with your arraylist
FOR FETCHING YOUR ABOVE DATA YOU NEED TO DO BELOW CODE:
String data;//your entire JSON data as String
try {
JSONObject object = new JSONObject(data);
String status = object.getString("status");
JSONArray dataArray = object.getJSONArray("data");
for (int i = 0; i < dataArray.length(); i++) {
JSONObject json1 = dataArray.getJSONObject(i);
String countryID = json1.getString("countryID");
String vCountry = json1.getString("vCountry");
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
Now if you want to show this vCountry in listview you have to add vCountry in ArrayList and then in listview.setAdapter you have to pass this ArrayList which is filled by vCountry. Hope you understand now. If you want adapter and listview code please check this link http://www.vogella.com/tutorials/AndroidListView/article.html
Finally i got the right answer.
May anyone get help from this in future.

Ok I got the code for a feed parser from the ibm website. It works perfectly on the emulator,however on the phone it just stops at one point.

If you don't understand the code,it's fully explained here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/x-android/
My problem on the phone starts on the MessageList.java like this:
It first calls: loadFeed(ParserType.ANDROID_SAX);
Then the function:
private void loadFeed(ParserType type){
try{
Log.i("AndroidNews", "ParserType="+type.name());
FeedParser parser = FeedParserFactory.getParser(type);
long start = System.currentTimeMillis();
messages = parser.parse();
long duration = System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
Log.i("AndroidNews", "Parser duration=" + duration);
String xml = writeXml();
Log.i("AndroidNews", xml);
List<String> titles = new ArrayList<String>(messages.size());
for (Message msg : messages){
titles.add(msg.getTitle());
}
ArrayAdapter<String> adapter =
new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.row,titles);
this.setListAdapter(adapter);
} catch (Throwable t){
Log.e("AndroidNews",t.getMessage(),t);
}
}
At the messages = parser.parse(); line the code just stops,no error and the screen remains black on my phone.
All the code was designed for android 1.5! My phone and the emulator have android 2.3.3!
KEEP IN MIND THAT: On the emulator the code works! On my phone it stops at the messages = parser.parse(); line.
Can someone give me a solution or something?
Try doing the parsing logic in a async task.

Taking data from rss feed using xml and then storing in an ArrayList

I am making an android application to get data from an rss feed https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/list/0AgSdFM6D0vX4dE5iQ0FfMGVWWGpieDZJY2lHX3I1S3c/od6/private/full
Can anyone please suggest an idea to take values gsx:brand from the xml and store it in an Arraylist

The error message here pretty much tells you what is going on -- you are trying to access the network on tthe main thread. You really shouldn't do that on any version of android, because it can (read: will) cause your UI to hang while the connection is processing.
There are ways to turn the error off, but I won't get into tthem: you shouodnt do it.
instead, you want to do this work in aa background thread and post a minimal handler back to the UI thread. I don't have an example handy (on my tablet now) but let me know if you cannot find one.
..edit..
OK, here's a simple example. This requires an activity with a text view (id "text") and, of course, INTERNET permissions. Let me know if you have any questions!
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
private TextView mTextView;
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
mTextView = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.text);
// start our call in a new thread
(new Thread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
fetchPage();
}
})).start();
}
private void fetchPage() {
try {
URL url = new URL("http://stackoverflow.com/feeds");
HttpURLConnection c = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
c.setRequestMethod("GET");
c.setDoOutput(true);
c.connect();
ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
InputStream is = c.getInputStream();
byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
int len1 = 0;
while ((len1 = is.read(buffer)) != -1) {
bos.write(buffer, 0, len1);
}
bos.close();
is.close();
// Remember, all UI things must occur back on the UI thread!
final String text = bos.toString();
this.runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
mTextView.setText(text);
}
});
} catch (final IOException ioe) {
this.runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, ioe.getMessage(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
});
}
}

How to Build a RSS reader for Android?

I am new to android and i am trying to build a RSS reader for Android. I have built all the classes and XML files but its not giving the required output. Its just showing the message
No RSS feed available.
Please can some one suggest what should i do.
Here is the code which i took from the tutorial and tried to manipulate-
public final String RSSFEEDOFCHOICE = "http://blog.01synergy.com/feed/";
public final String tag = "RSSReader";
private RSSFeed feed = null;
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) {
super.onCreate(icicle);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
// go get our feed!
feed = getFeed(RSSFEEDOFCHOICE);
// display UI
UpdateDisplay();
}
private RSSFeed getFeed(String urlToRssFeed)
{
try
{
// setup the url
URL url = new URL(urlToRssFeed);
// create the factory
SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
// create a parser
SAXParser parser = factory.newSAXParser();
// create the reader (scanner)
XMLReader xmlreader = parser.getXMLReader();
// instantiate our handler
RSSHandler theRssHandler = new RSSHandler();
// assign our handler
xmlreader.setContentHandler(theRssHandler);
// get our data via the url class
InputSource is = new InputSource(url.openStream());
// perform the synchronous parse
xmlreader.parse(is);
// get the results - should be a fully populated RSSFeed instance, or null on error
return theRssHandler.getFeed();
}
catch (Exception ee)
{
// if we have a problem, simply return null
return null;
}
}
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu)
{
super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu);
menu.add(0,0,0, "Choose RSS Feed");
menu.add(0,1,0, "Refresh");
Log.i(tag,"onCreateOptionsMenu");
return true;
}
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(Menu item){
switch (((View) item).getId()) {
case 0:
Log.i(tag,"Set RSS Feed");
return true;
case 1:
Log.i(tag,"Refreshing RSS Feed");
return true;
}
return false;
}
private void UpdateDisplay()
{
TextView feedtitle = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.feedtitle);
TextView feedpubdate = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.feedpubdate);
ListView itemlist = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.itemlist);
if (feed == null)
{
feedtitle.setText("No RSS Feed Available");
return;
}
feedtitle.setText(feed.getTitle());
feedpubdate.setText(feed.getPubDate());
ArrayAdapter<RSSItem> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<RSSItem>(this,android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1,feed.getAllItems());
itemlist.setAdapter(adapter);
itemlist.setOnItemClickListener(this);
itemlist.setSelection(0);
}
public void onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View v, int position, long id)
{
Log.i(tag,"item clicked! [" + feed.getItem(position).getTitle() + "]");
Intent itemintent = new Intent(this,ShowDescription.class);
Bundle b = new Bundle();
b.putString("title", feed.getItem(position).getTitle());
b.putString("description", feed.getItem(position).getDescription());
b.putString("link", feed.getItem(position).getLink());
b.putString("pubdate", feed.getItem(position).getPubDate());
itemintent.putExtra("android.intent.extra.INTENT", b);
startSubActivity(itemintent,0);
}
private void startSubActivity(Intent itemintent, int i) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
}
This is my first approach to RSS Reader, It's no so dynamic and has boilerplate code but worked well for myself.
Usage:
RssParser parser = new RssParser(feedUrl);
Log.i("LOG", "Description: " + parser.getItem(3).description); //4th item's description

Check following link, It's open source RSS reader for Android, You can download code for reference
http://code.google.com/p/android-rss/
There is a tutorial (including complete source code) on how to build an Android RSS reder here:
part 1 (complete application)
part 2 (application updated to parse image tags from desciption)
part 3 (application update with Android 3.0)
The tutorial uses SAX parser and includes a complete Android project that accesses an RSS feed and then displays the feed in a list view.
There still seems to be a lot of people interested in this - so if you are looking for an Android 3.0+ with fragments/async tasks etc, as well as complete application code, I have updated the posts again, and they can be found here!
You can download and check my project on google-play.
This project is about some turkish sport channels feeds. Lots of channels are in one application.
You can check source code of project on github.
