iOS: How to achieve relative layout - android

I'm trying to make an iOS version of my Android app. It contains text that looks like this:
There are three labels: title, author, and publication year. I need to display the full title, which may be several lines long. However long the title is, I want the author label to be directly below the title, and the pub. year directly below that.
In Android, I just used relative layouts to achieve this effect. How can I do this in iOS? Can Auto Layout do this for me somehow? If not, do you have any suggestions for effectively displaying this information in iOS? Preferably I'd like to achieve this using the storyboard.

In iOS you use InterfaceBuilder IB for layouts - it's drag and drop - not like Android layouts.
Search for IB tutorials - it is really straight forward and you see what you get:-)

I also searched quite some time a way to achieve android-like layouts in iOS (without the hassle of computing every positions for each subviews).
I eventually gave up and coded a fast equivalent of VerticalLayout and HorizontalLayout. Here's the repo (it's ARC compliant) :

It's sketchy but it does the work !

Put simply relative layout organises items on the screen relative to something else. Like linear layout, relative layout is commonly used by android developers. I myself do like this layout and have used in the development of my applications before. See
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/RelativeLayout.html and http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/layout/relative.html for more information on relative layouts.

What Layout XML should I use for the about page of an android app?

I can't seem to find any good resource or guidelines for making the about section of an app I'm making.
Using a Preference xml seems not a good idea to me as there are no preferences to make. I need to just display textual information. The only interaction required is for showing those Open-source licenses, TOS, the version, etc.
See this about page of the Google app:
I have no clue what is a good (may not be the best) way to implement like in the above linked image.
Any help would be appreciated.
If you want to implement something like this your best bet would be using a RecyclerView with an DividerItemDecoration (for the grey line). The item of your RecyclerView simply needs to support a Title and a Subtitle. The Subtitles visibility should be gone by default, so your item (which should be wrap_content) is not unnecessarily stretched. This way you can reproduce the screen of the image you have linked
If your about page is a static one use constraint layout as parent and textviews as children. But if it is a dynamic list use recyclerview for better performance.

xml box layout or other suggestions

I am programming an android app for making work-fiches, main screen needs to show some summary of:working hours, parts used, remarks, ... , how can i design in xml these boxes the best way? I need a title, an summary content, clickable,...
The android design guidelines doesn't give me immediately a solution for it, also it is very difficult to find an example of it so i know which xml attributes to use, frame layout was helping me first but seems to give me some problems by now,
Thanks for your ideas in advance.
I suggest to go with Relative Layout, its the best layout present which requires a minimum no. of lines as compared to other layouts and align views with respect to each other. If you want views to be divided in proportion then it is recommended to use Linear Layout using weight concept.

Android GUI Layouts in Eclipse

I am very new to Android development and am having some trouble. I am creating an XML file using Eclipse, both the Graphical Layout feature is what I'm having trouble with.
Also, I am working in Android 2.3 for compatibility reasons.
I am wondering if there is a layout which enables me to place buttons or text fields or any attribute where I want to put them. This may sound stupid, but it seems that every layout has some sort of order in which it lets you add attributes, and whenever I try to drag them elsewhere on the layout things just get very very messy.
If what you want is an AbsoluteLayout, this has been deprecated since Android 2 (IIRC). You can try using the RelativeLayout, which let you position freely your widgets. Else, if you only use LinearLayout, then yes the widget will be positioned in a strict way.
use Relative Layout. I recommend that you read up on Android layouts so you understand why, what and hows of Android way. There are some good tutorials that I found helpful. TutsPlus: Android Layouts
There is also a very good video from Marakana.

If you are just starting out with Android check other tutorials/videos on Marakana. They are a very good resource for beginners.

Custom Android Layouts

I have an upcoming project that requires me to make a custom layout. I have been looking all over for a way to complete this but with no success. The layout will have custom buttons that need to fit the screen and some other custom views. In other words I need it to look the same on all types of devices. So these custom views need to stretch to fit the screens. Something similar to the weather bug app but the buttons will be at the top and there won't be so many options. The buttons will fit the screen width wise. Basically the layout will not contain any stock UI.
I would like to have a book or tutorial that I could follow to help me out here.
check out this blog: http://blog.stylingandroid.com/
there are a lot of good examples for every kind of layout manager in Android.
Furthermore I strongly recommend to you to have a look in the Android's API Demo and source code.
For creating custom view, that's the best resource: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/custom-components.html
good luck!

Is there any design issues i need to follow while designing UI in android?

I'm using Relative layout for designing UI. Please give me guidelines to follow.
Hey, You can use Layouts according to the requirement that will depends on your application.
If you want to display the UI in table format then use TableLayout
If you want to display that line by line than use LinearLayout
like that you have to select the layout
Note: You can use multiple Layouts in the single Xml file that is in LinearLayout you can use tablelayout if required
You will find lots of tutorials here: https://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/index.html.
Relative Layout
Hmm, I'd suggest looking at JQTouch ( http://sencha.com) which is aimed at web-kit browsers, including iPhone and Android. It has APIs to help you with layout and various transitions. Seems to work well in Dolphin although I have not tried it on the iPhone.
