how to split the screen horizontally across the screen - android

Right now it splits vertically...I want it to split horizontally. I've looked at everyone else that says theirs cuts horizontally and I can't tell the difference...

android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" and android:gravity="bottom" however xml item still appears at top

I'm not sure exactly why this is happening but I've specified android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" and android:gravity="bottom" in my (Android) xml layout however the item (HorizontalScrollView containing carousel1) still appears at the top of the layout.
I'm not sure exactly what is wrong in this instance.

I changed the parent LinearLayout to RelativeLayout and in the linearlayout of ScrollView i removed android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" and just added android:layout_gravity="bottom". I hope this will help you. Here is the xml file

In your HorizontalScrollView, don't use layout_alignParentBottom, use android:layout_gravity="bottom". See LinearLayout.LayoutParams reference guide.
LinearLayout uses layout_gravity for its children, RelativeLayout uses layout_alignX where X is top, bottom, etc. If you wanted, you could keep it as layout_alignParentBottom but the parent of your HorizontalScrollView would need to be a RelativeLayout. Either solution should accomplish the same effect.

Position four relative layouts equally on screen

I'm trying to position four RelativeLayouts on the screen equally as shown on the image below. I just can't seem to get anywhere. Each one will contain a text label and a button centred in their quadrant. I've tried placing the four inside RelativeLayout with the alignComponent values set appropriately and alignParent values set to Left/Right and Top/Bottom. I've also tried with just the alignComponent set and just alignParent set but to no avail.
It should look like this,

Since you want to use RelativeLayout, the easiest way is to use vertical and horizontal struts (which are invisible) and use those as anchors for your four RelativeLayouts children. This approach is definitely more efficient than nested LinearLayouts with weights. You should probably read this before nesting LinearLayouts with weights.
A snippet from the above link:
Layout weights require a widget to be measured twice. When a LinearLayout with non-zero weights is nested inside another LinearLayout with non-zero weights, then the number of measurements increase exponentially.
So for using RelativeLayouts with struts, your XML could be like this:

How to set both width and height of layouts as percentages in android?

I need to create a horizontal layout as follows :
I can set the total width of the layout of C using android:layout_width="match_parent" but I'm completely stumped at setting the rest of the layouts. Any help is highly appreciated.
The whole app is set to run on a horizontal layout only, if that helps in decide what method to set the layouts.

Android Layout - layoutweight and weightsum

I need to build a layout with the set of linear layouts. The layout has to occupy a defined percentage of the screen. I need to do this to have a similar look in all the devices.
Issue:
I have a textview in the top right layout (green color box ). Whenever I add some data in the textview it disturbs the entire layout as shown below in the 2nd image. But I need to have the data wraps automatically when it reaches the right end of the screen/layout.
Please help me to resolve this. Thanks In Advance

Start your layout_width or layout_height as 0dp instead of wrap_content. (If it's in a vertical layout, layout_height should be 0dp; if it's in a horizontal layout, layout_width should be 0dp)
The layout_weight describes how to divide the remaining space after the layout_widths/layout_heights have been assigned.
Note that wrap_content doesn't mean "make the text wrap"; it means set that dimension to the "preferred" dimension of the view.
